How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The condition in the unit was dirty, hadn't been cleaned, the cook top, fridge & pots where also dirty & rusty therefore we couldn't cook any meal at the unit which was very disappointing. My friend & I used one bathroom between us as the shower & toilet were filthy, one toilet seat needed replacing. The fans in the bedroom were also dirty so we just used the pedestool fan. The mattress on one bed & all the pillows were so stained i wouldn't give them to anyone or charity. We had to ask for a new mattress protector & pillows. The dryer filter & the washing machine also needed cleaning before we could use them. The owner wasn't interested in sending in any cleaners. We cleaned the unit & anything we used before & after we left. There's no clerical staff or office at this place either

Verified reviewThis property's location was the star of the show, although many things were not as described, including 'Rooftop Pool' and 'Private Beach Area'. Proximity to Waterfront and other CBD precincts was good, as was undercover secure parking.
In isolation, small things are inconsequential. The cluster of many small things, however, was quite impactful. From ants roaming around kitchen benches when we arrived and throughout our stay; grubbiness of surfaces and cutlery/crockery on arrival (maybe the RinseAid in the dishwasher needs a top up); the smell of the apartment; the smoke alarm going off at 2am due to a flat battery - representing a lack of routine maintenance - an untimely response and no retribution from owner, and self-sourced replacement not available until trading hours the next morning; to name a few of the more noteworthy 'small' things. Expectations were high based on apartment description. Perhaps would have been less disappointed - even at the same price - if a more accurate description was given to align with actual experience.

Verified reviewLocation along the esplanade was excellent and close proximity to inner city Darwin great. Beds comfortable.
Mixture of towels, no handtowels, light switch in 1 bedroom wouldn't turn on, lots of large knives for food preparation., but no serrated edge knife. Perhaps a sandwich toaster would be good and a coffee plunger.

She called me the next day she put her vessels in the dishwasher. However our cleaners cleaned the place well prior to your check in. Our linens were clean.

Many facilities in the property were not of use (washing machine, clothes dryer, guest bedroom airconditioning). As well as not being at advises prior of an additional fee for parking on site. The couches felt extremely dirty and gave off quite a rash.

The washing machine and second bedroom AC was full functional and working in your stay. We were paying $40 per hour for cleaning and the cleaners spent 4 hours of cleaning this place to turn into spot clean. I can share a previous guest review for you. There is a limited car parking facilities on the Esplanade; i have informed you upfront about it. Verified reviewThe location of the property met our needs and allowed easy access to all we needed during our stay. The man who met us upon arrival was awesome and nothing was too hard even when I left something in the room on departure and he needed to attend to let me back into the room. All done with a smile.
The previous customer's sheets were washed but left in the machine. Not a huge inconvenience but something to consider.

The owners have a list of check out demands including the washing of all linen, amongst other demands. Booking.com has a check out at noon they have a list in the property stating 10 am. The apartment also has a parking spot allocated but the owner charged extra to use the spot allocated to the apartment.
Dear Anonymous Guest Thanks for your feedback I would like to shed some light on true side of story; I have not demanded, all I made is humble requests and also you asked for check out instructions 1. I told you to put the used towels and linens on the laundry because the the time between your check out and other upcoming guest check in is less than 2 hours. In between, the cleaners had to clean and mop , two bedrooms, one living area, kitchen area, Balcony and corridor and two bathrooms and two toilets, plus preparing the beds and necessities within 1hours. 2. I requested you to Leave the key on the designated area and send me the photos because one time the guest took the keys to Bali and other time the guest wrongly put into other people’s letter box. You were stayed in the Hotspot of Darwin CBD- that is Esplanade We have very limited car parking spaces and you did not request car parking at the time of booking. Rather you asked me on the time of check in, I found extremely hard to organise one for you. However I managed to arrange one car park you. Verified reviewGreat location! Right on the Esplanade and only a short walk to Aquascene, Mindil Beach, Tour Bus Collection Point & City Centre. We stayed over a weekend and while there was music pumping at the local clubs, you couldn't hear it with the doors closed. The host was friendly and happy which made a great start to the holiday and the apartment had everything we needed.
