Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaI would have preferred more room in the fridge for personal items, rather than it being full of drinks/products. The wifi was a bit intermittent, so I used my own data. I was glad that I didn't have to pay a night's deposit as that was in the message I received from the hotel, after I had booked and prior to checking in. A microwave would have been helpful. Good shortbread biscuits - bring your own coffee!
It is a marvellous grand dame of a building in an excellent location, rich in history. The old lift is charming and the stained glass and architectural features fascinating. My room, 212 Billy Hefferin, was spacious, clean and, if not having a view, was on the sunny side with a distant view to the clock tower. Reception staff were friendly and helpful and there's a good lock-up cupboard for storing luggage. I appreciated being given a quiet room.

AustraliaBreakfast and coffee really weak
Room was lovely, shower was great, dinner was really good, staff were really friendly. Unfortunately the breakfast wasn't good. The plate was cold, the butter rock hard, the egg overcooked and the bacon over cooked like leather. Really loved the historical hotel and beautiful stain glass windows. If there was space it would be nice to have a lounge area downstairs.

AustraliaCheck out unmanned, at 9 in the morning it should be staffed for ease of payment and bill checking. Building is needing an update but still well worth a visit.
Dinner was okay, cheap and cheerful for seniors meals. Large restaurant, nicely set up. Friendly staff. Great historic building, fascinating. First class location, close to events, gardens and restaurants.

AustraliaThere was nothing to not like for the reasons above.
It’s an old and historic hotel and is what it is. Some lovely features in its architecture and interiors. I knew what I was getting so I was happy with my choice.

AustraliaI like it but the bathroom is a little dated. The bar in the basement could do with a refresh, it was a bit cold and unwelcoming. One drink and we left.
Lovely old building in the heart of Bendigo. Short walks to the gallery, the park, the lake and restaurants

AustraliaBeing picky but there was no black tea bags? Can be a bit noisy with traffic but you are in the middle of a busy area.
Good room in a historic hotel (in a great location!) full of old world charm and character. Yes, that means the carpets and some facilities might be a bit worn (loved the old lift!) but that adds to the whole experience.

AustraliaThe heater not working. Some of the wallpaper coming off the wall. A bit dated and needs a refresh.
The ambience of the hotel. It's history. All the staff we had contact with were very helpful and friendly and responded promptly when we phoned about the heating not working and brought a portable heater.

AustraliaI had breakfast in the bstro and I had the big breakfast which has a good array of foods on the plate. The plate was then overcrowded by 2 huge chunks of cold hard toast with a huge chunk of butter on each one the butter was a big waste as the toast was cold! Generally a good breakfast but could have been better if the toast was fresher. I also had a steak for dinner the night before and while the steak was good I asked for medium/rare and got a medium heading to well done. No bedside tables in te room either so I had to get up to go to the bedside lamp to turn it off.
Room was comfortable but the bed was average and rather cheap feeling - but then I do prefer a firm bed. Including breakfast as an option in the price like a lot of other hotels do would be a good Idea. Overall the room was clean and well stocked. An extra blanket so we could lower the heater temp (rev cycle a/c) overnight would have been good as well.
