How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The temperature of the shower water was a bit on the luke warm/colder side, the heat pump definitely needed to be turned up Needed and extra pillow per person to sleep on as the single one provided was a bit flat

Verified reviewLocation on the hill Lovely views first thing in the morning (kangaroos, frost on the ground) Good, firm bed Electric blankets
Given the outside evening temperature was about 2°, we really needed some heating. We borrowed a small fan heater from a friend and turned off all unnecessary power. The fan still tripped the switchboard. Tiny Home on a Hill is a charming space but probably best saved for warmer months.

Verified reviewIt was beautiful and scenic, the kangaroos, birds and sheep all around was lovely in the morning. Pete/Max was very accommodating. Would defintiely stay again!
Only concession I has was that the only heating in the cabin is the electric blanket on the bed, the insulation is good, but it can make a colder night a bit rough sometimes. It is very cosy and nice though in bed. The hotwater was Luke warm also.

Verified reviewThe location was great with a gorgeous view of the local landscape. The accomodation is great if you don’t stay in hot weather!
The signage to the property wasn’t great once arrived at front entrance. Follow signs to Pete’s place NOT Tiny Home on a Hill!! Also there is a hole in a fly screen so we were devoured by insects as the weather was hot and we had to open windows. They were all out of insect spray so the night was horrible. Also the septic tank had an issue they couldn’t fix in time so the stench was not great but did eventually go away later in the evening. *response to host We messaged you about the septic tank smell and you replied to us by saying that there was in fact an issue but the plumber couldn’t get there in time to fix it before the weekend. So to say there wasn’t an issue is lie. The fact you tried to get bookings.com to cancel our stay by you telling them we didn’t show up is a deceitful way at keeping negative reviews away. We fully excepted the heat and lack of cooling options as per our text messages directly to you but needed to let other travellers know some of the possible issues in hot weather, this is what honest reviews are for. There are many great aspects to your accomodation which we did point out in the review. If you had handled the complaints we made on the night better this review would be better. Sorry for speaking the truth but maybe a lesson in customer service is here for you. Ps. Bookings.com are instructing their hosts to put customers as no shows in order to not allow negative reviews.
Hello Serene, Thank you for your review and for staying at Tiny Home on a Hill in such extreme weather conditions. Unfortunately the weather was 38 degrees and it was very humid (something which is completely out of my control including the bug infestation which happens in certain conditions in this area once every 5-10 years). In the description I did specificaly state that Tiny Home on a Hill is completely off grid and that there was no aircon and I did text you this information upon your arrival. As for the smell from the septic tank there is no issue at all as my local plumber came to inspect after your stay and stated there was no damage or leaks anywhere. The hot weather along with strong winds can make farms a little smelly at times (again something which is entirely out of my control). As for the fly screen, there are no holes or damage at all. I have personally lived there during hot weather events and understand the layout very well. As for the bug situation, the rutherglen bug is known for getting into houses very easily. You are welcome to look this up on google to get a better understanding. The whole town inluding my mother’s house was infiltrated with the rutherglen bug and this event only occurs once every few years. You also stated in your review that the bug spray can was empty. You were welcome to text or call me or my mother to help you during your stay. We would have given you a new bottle of bug spray and even given you a complimentary bottle of wine to ease the pain. As for directions, I have provided very specific instructions in the description of the tiny house. When you were on your way I gave you additional assistance on the location of the property via phone call and text. Although we are dissapointed that you didn’t have an enjoyable stay at Tiny Home on a Hill, your review does not depict a honest and clear representation of our beautiful farm that we have poured our blood, sweat and tears into. I strongly suggest you seek assistance when staying at future farm stays and don’t hesitate to ask for help, that’s what we’re always here for to provide a positive off grid experience. Response Hello Serene, As I stated in my previous message the septic tank has no issue at all. The plumber did come after your stay and said ‘there was no problem’. The combination of hot weather and strong winds can blow the smell towards the tiny house (again this is out of my control). As for the no show cancellation, I had no choice but to contact booking.com the night you booked in to stay. I needed to do this as you clearly stated in your text message that the weather was too hot and that you wanted to drive back to Mebourne. As for the complaints, I texted you throughout the process but unfortunately you texted again early Sunday morning when everyone was asleep. Signs stating ‘Tiny Home on a Hill’ are now displayed on the property and will be there permanently on the property. Please do not speed up my drive way again as you did on the day as this is very dangerous. The area is a working farm with a lot of infrastructure and speeding will not be tolerated. Cheers Peter
