How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe loved everything about this hotel
So glad you had a great stay! That last-minute décor really pulled through—we like to think of it as fashionably late flair. Can’t wait to have you back at Sugar Cane Club!

Verified reviewStaff including those driving the shuttle and front desk ( to book a trip for us!) went above and beyond. Whilst it is a small hotel they moved dinner regularly to change things up and had free trips to go on. Lovely peaceful hotel away from the centre. Wake up early and see the monkeys going back to the gully!
The hotel needs some love as it is tired in places. A few extra times for the shuttle bus would be good but the service was greatly appreciated.

Verified reviewReally enjoyed our relaxing stay. The hotel and grounds are superb. Great food and drink. The suites are spacious and well maintained. Perfect for a relaxed holiday.
Without a hire car the property is a little remote. The shuttle service to the beach and Speightstown is excellent but we felt a couple of extra shuttles to access the bus services to elsewhere on Barbados throughout the day and especially a later service would make the service more complete.

Verified review* Unlike other guests we were happy with the location BUT we did have a hire car. Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of any major town was for us a bonus as we enjoy peace and quiet. * The grounds are immaculately kept and the early morning visit from a troupe of monkeys added to it being special. *The facilities within our garden view apartment enabled us to store food for breakfast etc and cook food if we wanted to
*We stayed here on a room only basis, from the onset we felt we were treated like second class citizens. Staff appeared uninterested from the moment we checked in until we left a week later. Very few of the staff were friendly or approachable, although admittedly we were not in constant contact with them unlike the majority of other guests who were there on an all inclusive basis. *Our garden view apartment overlooked a small patch of green grass but not exactly the garden, should probably be marketed as partial garden view *Inside the apartment the two settees were very uncomfortable. more like conservatory furniture and there were no windows that you could open so the only air coming in was through the glass doors. This gave us a problem with the rear bathroom in that with no air flow it attracted more than its fair share of mosquitoes. * Finally because of the lack of interest shown by the staff we had no knowledge of any of the evening activities so taking part in the Saturday evening BBQ, for example, with entertainment wasn't given to us as an option. Whoever manages this place needs to think about how much additional income could be generated from room only guests if they had the option to take part and pay for these type of evenings.

Enjoyed staying there for a few days - so peaceful and beautiful surroundings but taxi or shuttle needed to get anywhere.

Verified reviewLovely hotel. The furnishings are traditional old plantation house style. It’s set in a fantastic peaceful location, with beautiful tropical gardens. The staff were so smiley and friendly that it was a pleasure to speak to them. We enjoyed the food and it came with a great range of options. We shall be back 🥰
Nothing.

Verified reviewLocation is very quiet ideal to get away from it all though can be a bit isolating. There is a shuttle bus from the hotel to the beach (Haywards) and to Speightstown. When I had an issue with my room, it was dealt with quickly
It was assumed that I was not a guest but a local when I enquired about booking for dinner. The receptionist was very apologetic but it put me out a bit

Verified reviewThe pool area was lovely
The music blaring out round the pool. Leaf blowers going etc. Hardly relaxing. Aqua aerobic music competing with the other music. The accommodation was tired, dark and scruffy. We only stayed one night, so we weren't too bothered. I would have been upset if there for a week.

Verified reviewLovely accommodation in a one bed apartment with garden views and pool. Very, very quiet hillside location with trees and landscaping.there is a shuttle into town during the day, but nighttime it's a taxi. The breakfast was nice. Very welcoming and helpful reception.
We had booked one night due to traveling they have a clunky system for guests who are not all inclusive.

Verified reviewThe grounds were beautiful but many of the staff were unwelcoming and rude. Michelle on reception was lovely and a young bar staff member but that was it.
The majority of staff were unfriendly and the food was very disappointing. Considering it was Christmas no real effort was made to provide Christmas day atmosphere or food.

Verified reviewBeautiful grounds and an attractive pool. Our suite was very comfortable. It is worth having an all inclusive tariff as the drinks and meals are very good indeed starting from the welcoming rum punch. There is very much a club atmosphere and many people come back again and again.Facilities are good.
Visitors should be aware that the Sugar Cane Club is inland. Free shuttle busses are laid on but it is not like a beach front resort. It can get very hot by the pool.

Verified reviewIt is a lush, peaceful setting. Very private. Very clean. Absolutely, loved the glass bottom boat tour! The spa was an amazing treat. The gym was fully functional. The kitchenette had almost everything we needed. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
There wasn't anything we didn't like. There was an evening dress code for dinner and evening entertainment. Pack accordingly.
