How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. No toilet door!!! And the shower and water closet are in front of each other in a small common space so once has got a shower you’ll have wet legs with every wc visit… and no hooks for towels
Dear Yulia, I'm glad you appreciated the design of our spacious suite of about about 100m2. I'ms sure you also appreciated the assistance you received to park you car and the personal suggestions about activities in our neighborhood. Regarding, the bathroom, there is no surprise. It matches the photos. It is located in a separate space, itself located in a partitioned area in a large room separate from the bedroom. We deliberately opted for an open design. There are partitions, but not separating doors everywhere. There is a squeegee in the walk-in shower and a bath mat. There is also a special device for hanging towels, in the shape of a ladder and it is quite big. Unfortunately you did not notice it.

Verified reviewClaire was extremely welcoming, helpful and gentle. She provided a list with places to visit, eat and drink. The guesthouse was clean and Claire, being proactive, provided a fan for high temperatures, which was very handy.

The owner was rude to me and expected a very short time period for the check in, not aligning with the information on booking.
Dear Irene, Your comment, made one month after your stay, is misleading and defamatory. Its only intention is to harm. It is indicated on Booking that you have to announce your arrival time in advance and give a one hour slot. You gave me a 2 hours slot. I kindly requested a one hour slot, especially because it was before the normal check-in time. I did not charge the early check-in fee indicated on Booking. Moreover, the evening before your departure, you told me that you will leave your room at 13.00. I reminded you that, as indicated on Booking and repeated in our communication, check-out was at 10.00, that a late check-out could not be guaranteed, particularly if the room was occupied immediately afterwards, which was the case. I offered you an alternative solution, which was to use the ground floor, and even provided you with an additional wifi code. You cannot definitely call this as a rude behaviour. On the contrary, I have been patient, flexible, with a problem solving mindset.

They need to install an elevator especially if you have a room on the top floor
Thank you for this very helpful comment:-) Everything is indicated on Booking. You booked a room with no breakfast on the 3rd floor, with no lift, which is not possible in our 19th century house. I hope you enjoyed the extensive help you received one month before arrival for restaurants, the free early check-in and the possibility to store your luggage for a day and have access to our guesthouse after check-out.

Only roof-top-windows to the sky. Bathtubs, but no shower.

Verified reviewWonderful room with a marvelous view on the garden, very clean and spacious. The location in Ixelles is excellent, very close to Flagey and Avenue Louise. As a bonus Canopee Guesthouse offers access to a large living room and very spacious garden.

To be precise and for the experience of other customers, I have to recall the information given stipulating that guests do have access to a 500 sqm garden, to a common room on the ground floor but not to entire ground floor since it is a guesthouse and some part are private. This is a great value for money, especially in this neighborhood:-)

Verified reviewWe were warmly welcomed by Claire to her beautiful home. She even carried my bag up to the 3rd floor for me! Our room was comfortable and stylish, lovely and light too. The bed was very comfy. Claire kindly provided us with recommendations for places to eat and drink. Although we had stayed in the area before, there were lots of suggestions we hadn't tried before, so great tips. Well worth a walk to Cones for the excellent ice cream!
The bath had a hand held shower & we would have preferred an over bath or separate shower.

Regarding the bathroom, Improvements are planned: a bath screen will be installed and a shower bar will be fixed into the wall so that you can have both a bath and a shower. Verified reviewThe room was lovely, and everything was very clean. The coffee making facilities were very welcome, as was access to the garden. There was a slight hiccup when we arrived, which wasn't the owner's fault, but this was sorted out very quickly. The staff member we met was absolutely lovely.
There are a lot of stairs, but this is made clear in the listing, and won't be a problem for most people.

Verified reviewThe room was very clean and equipped with its own bathroom. A small kitchen is available with everything you need, especially coffee for a quick breakfast.
The only downside was that our rooms were on the top floor, and with the rising temperatures, it was very hot.

Verified reviewI liked everything. Spotless clean, has everything, quiet, spacious, I especially appreciated the living room area for when we were too tired to be out but not tired enough to go to bed.
Everything was perfect for me. For certain people, it may matter which room you book. Our room was the top floor road side. It was a warm evening of a warm day. I prefer it this way, but some people may find it too hot (I am not sure whether there is an AC). We had the windows open all night, but this meant that once it was 5 am, there was a fair bit of car sounds. Again, this doesn’t bother me, and likely if you book the garden side it would not be an issue.

I would have prepared a showerhead and some enclosure. I had to be careful to be sure the water stayed in the tub.
