How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay. The place is breathtakingly beautiful with nice views. The rooms are nice and clean. Smell, good and well arranged. The breakfast was nice, too. We were 7, 4 kids, and 3 adults.

Verified review“This was, without question, one of the finest stays I’ve experienced in Bruges. From the moment of booking, the communication was seamless, with clear instructions that made arrival effortless. Once there, the hosts went above and beyond, offering thoughtful recommendations that helped us experience the city like locals. The rooms themselves were exquisite—tastefully designed, comfortable, and full of character. While Bruges offers no shortage of luxury accommodations, few manage to combine charm, comfort, and genuine hospitality as effortlessly as this property.”
Nothing. Perfect

Verified reviewWonderful place in the middle of Brugge. Everything is walkable. The host Bert is very nice and the backyard and the breakfast are awesome! The rooms are very stylish. We can 100% recommend this B&B and will definitley come back next time in Brugge.
Since it is an old house, it can be a bit noisey, which dind't bother us, but if you are sensitiv to that, you habe to be aware of it.

Verified reviewRooms were well equipped with everything Ie shower gell, shampoo beds comfortable. Coffee machine and a selection of teas in room. The breakfast is exceptional. Served like an afternoon tea, a wide selection of meats, cheese, croissants, and breads. Homemade yoghurt and eggs are also freshly cooked with bacon or smoked salmon. The b and b have an honesty bar where you can help yourself and write down if you use anything. There is a courtyard or lounge area available to use. Bert and Hilda were both very good hosts and seemed like nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a lovely stay.
All good.

Verified reviewA beautiful property in a good location. Great breakfast included. Proprietor was very accommodating handling our luggage.
It’s a very old building and the stairs are steep. If you need the ground floor unit, there is one.
Many thanks!

Verified reviewLovely large room Personal breakfast service in the Garden on the canal. In the evening this was available for relaxing drinks
A suggestion The location is on a cul de sac right in the middle of town. Understandably there is no parking available nearby. That is part of the charm. The parking is some distance away. This is not a complaint but is a reality. Having walked the area, we wondered however if there might be some Bag drop off advice to save most of the fairly long walk from the car park dragging the cases over cobbles. This could prove a challenge but for those who dare to try, some instructions including perhaps a detailed map to navigate the one-way streets would be very useful.

Verified reviewPerfect location, super cute, great breakfast and fantastic host.
In the attic room there is a beam that if you are barely six feet tall you can hit your head on. Perhaps a bright stripe, a piece of foam or both would help.

Verified reviewAbsolutely stunning location! The breakfast on the canal patio was certainly a highlight...fantastic selection and service! The honor bar was helpful but would also reco adding a small fridge to rooms so if you grab a bottle of wine you can keep it cold! Staff were generally great but had a few hiccups during our stay.
Our A/C wasn't working for the first day and a half of our visit. They were able to scramble and get it fixed by day 2 which was appreciated. They provide laundry services but word to the wise - make sure to give them 24 hrs. We didn't realize that (and they didn't mention it) and handed ours over at 6pm when we were checking out the next day at 10am. The morning of checkout we waited an extra hour for the clothing to dry but it was still very damp when we needed to leave. Ended up needing to spend another 20 euro to dry them all at a laundromat on the way to our next stop. We understand that things happen but would have appreciated if the laundry fee was waived or some of our honor bar items were comped to make up for the inconvenience of the A/C issue and the partial laundry service provided.
Dear Erin, We are sorry to read your comments, especially considering that you personally told me there was absolutely no issue at the time. We invest a great deal of time and effort into ensuring our guests feel truly cared for, but naturally, there are boundaries. For instance, we do not dry guests’ clothing during the night; such requests are handled during regular daytime hours. Perhaps this highlights one of the differences between a hotel and a small-scale bed and breakfast. That said, we truly enjoyed having you with us and we choose to hold on to the positive things you wrote. Kind regards, Bert - Owner

Verified reviewFabulous location in Bruges. Good communication with owner. Breakfast lovely. Enjoyed homemade yogurt with view of beautiful canal. Friendly staff. Stayed in the two separate Attic rooms upstairs, we thought they were connected but they are separate, which was fine for us. Stairs steep if carrying a lot of luggage, but worth it as attic rooms are stunning and very tastefully refurbished. The washing machine is communal and in use mostly by the B&B, but staff were helpful in folding my laundry when it was finished. Would love to come back and see it fully finished. There were workmen onsite, so probably won’t take long to finish.
We only booked one night 😏 Although the rooms are beautifully modernised they weren’t quite finished. My kids room didn’t have lighting in the shower or toilet, just wires sticking out. In our room there was a terrible smell coming from the drain in the shower that smelt like cabbage. Owner kindly offered to let us change room, but it was late, we had already taken all of our luggage up the steep stairs and settled in. We ran the shower and the smell got a little better. The overhead shower head had virtually no water coming from it, it was a trickle so used the hand shower which was lovely and powerful. (Probably just teething problems.) The air con unit had all exposed wiring, not yet finished and some skirting board off. Probably shouldn’t allow anyone to stay here until it’s finished, but glad they did as it’s still beautiful. We blocked that of the room off with our bags so our dog couldn’t hurt herself.
Thank you for the kind feedback. Indeed, we are putting the final touches in place, but we are still waiting on a few custom-made elements. Once everything is complete, it will be beautiful. I promise to send you the photos afterwards.

Verified reviewThe location was excellent, breakfast was fabulous outside along the canal. Loved the traditional feel of the place. Also highly recommend Bert’s other business Sansaveria for out of this world bagels. Very grateful to have air conditioning due to the heat.
Just a note for those with mobility issues, our room in the attic had a very narrow step stair case to climb. Totally fine for us but a note to request downstairs if any issues with stairs.
