How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGinette was the perfect host and made our stay exceptional. From the moment we were warmly greeted we felt so welcome. The room was characterful and immaculately clean. The breakfast was wonderful with every detail perfect. The location of Ginette’s home is ideal for a stroll into the centre or a bus goes from just round the corner. Ginette was so helpful and kind and we were sad to leave, we had a great time. Thank you Ginette, we will be returning.
Nothing.
Thank you for the good comments. Always welcome Regards Ginette

Verified reviewDefinitely the host, Ginette was very hospitable, lovely, and helpful. It felt like visiting a member of my family rather than staying in a B&B. She gave us a welcome drink, chocolates and biscuits. The breakfast was phenomenal, we had an early museum reservation and she tried to accommodate us and even gave us bags so we can take any food we didn’t get the chance to eat to catch our reservation. That food was enough for breakfast & lunch! Highly recommended.
The house is old, but to me that adds to the charm.
Thank you Regards Ginette

Verified reviewThe breakfast was out of this world, there was so much to choose from. We were even given a doggy bag to take food we hadn’t eaten for lunch. The room was very clean and beautifully decorated. The garden was very pretty and there were lots of sitting areas for you to enjoy. There is a regular bus service into the centre of Bruges but we chose to walk, we are in our seventies and it took us about 30mins along the side of the canal.
That our stay was for only two nights.
Thank you Tina, Wish you both all the best Regards Ginette

Verified reviewGinette let us park our motorcycle in her garage for our 2 nights in Bruges so we were off to a great start. Just under half an hour to walk in to Bruges down one of the canals. We would highly recommend staying here. Ginette is a lovely host . The accommodation and the grounds are perfect for a relaxing day/evening after exploring Bruges. Ginettes breakfast is a gastronomic delight.. Our room was perfect. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

Verified reviewB&B De Vijf Zuilen is an older building with real character rather than a chain hotel where everything is the same. Ginette has put her own touch to the place and it's full of little charms and interesting features. Ginette herself is lovely and can't do enough to help you. She keeps the place really clean and up together. Lovely breakfasts and a short walk into the centre of Bruges.
Everything was great.

Verified reviewThe location was good, and we were able to walk into the centre of bruges easily. Jeanette was a very attentive host and provided an excellent breakfast. The grounds of the House were very pleasant.
I suffer from claustrophobia and was unaware from the description of the room that the only window in the small room was too high for me to see any of the garden view making it extremly difficult to relax when in the room itself.
Thanks Ginette

Verified reviewIt is a lovely home and you can feel how much love and care Jinette has put into it. She was an incredible host, very accommodating and welcoming. The check-in was smooth. The rooms are clean and well equipped. The breakfast was outstanding and free parking inside the property was of course a plus. We truly enjoyed our stay.
Everything was perfect for us. There is nothing we did not like.

Elena and her boyfriend were a very special couple. They had difficulty understanding English. They checked in late after midnight, I accompanied them by phone for a long time from the station to the B&B. The second night the fire alarm went off, they had done all kinds of strange things in the room with the furniture, took out the drawers and put all kinds of herbs in them, I saw a large tomato with many long wooden sticks stuck in it. They had bought herb plants at the market and they were also full of long sticks, there were bizarre things everywhere. Also found 2 cigarette lighters, the room was very dirty and had a strange smell. I clean the room every day and then I kindly asked them to keep the room tidy. Because of all this I had expected this low score.

Verified reviewThe property is so beautiful and full of character. Everything was lovely and clean and the location was wonderful. Just out of the centre so we were able to park our car and leave it on the drive for the duration of our stay. Getting into the centre was very easy, a lovely walk or a quick bus ride. Ginette, our host was so wonderful and accommodating. My husband is vegan and Ginette made sure that there were plenty of options for him to eat and breakfast was a feast with plenty left over to take a doggy bag for lunch which saved us a small fortune in eating out. We couldn’t have asked for a better host and a better place to stay for our anniversary break.

Verified reviewGinette is an excellent host, the location is ideal for our needs and is not far to walk into Bruges, there is also the bus option as well. Had a good nights sleep and the breakfast sets you up nicely for the following day. The good thing with Ginette is that she takes time with her guests to ensure they jnow where they are going in the city.

She welcomes you early in the morning with a superb, complete, and delicious breakfast. Every detail of her décor is astonishing and reflects the love she puts into everything she does. The house is marvelous, like stepping into a fairytale. The rooms are very comfortable; we stayed in Majestic and will undoubtedly return. We are already eager to come back. I'm sorry you experienced it that way. You seemed like 2 friendly young men, 1 of you kept laughing loudly every time I said something, it was a bit annoying. I kindly asked when you were going to the city to turn off the lights, that's all. I think I know why you gave me a low score. At the extensive breakfast you had already filled the doggy bags well, and at check-out you asked for more and I said no, that's the reason. And of course there is nothing left that is good. Strange mentality
