Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThe mosquitos. The bed sheet on our bed was too small only just covering edge to edge on the mattress.
It is a lovely authentic place to stay. Comfortable and roomy for the 4 of us. It is close to a park, supermarket and for walking around the centre of Brugge. It is a steep climb upstairs to rooms with a bag, this isn't neccessarily an issue as authentic. If your bag is heavy it is worth considering. Great communication.

SwedenThe apartment is very worn. Scuffmarks, stains, wobbly chairs and broken plates etc. The shower was the main issue though, just not a nice experience to use. Staff was friendly and helpful but the truth is this place needs to be renovated. I would gladly have payed more for a fresher stay.
Location was great and the kitchen had everything we needed. Wifi was good.

United KingdomOnly a couple of minor issues. The stairs to room 3 are like loft ladders and could be tricky for someone with mobility problems, although we got used to them. In addition, the light on these stairs was triggered by a motion sensor and if you went too slowly, it switched off and left you climbing in the dark! Maybe this could be adjusted!?
The location was excellent and the apartments (we booked no.2 and no.3 for a family of 5) were large, light and clean. Getting in and out with the key codes and key safe was simple. The apartments had everything we needed.

United KingdomThis is an attic apartment. The owners have done a great job in making the most of the space, but tall people may feel a little restricted in some of the spaces by the velux windows. Another easy chair also wouldn’t go amiss!
This apartment is in a fantastic location, close to all the attractions Bruges has to offer and round the corner from a lovely park and a small supermarket for every day items. Great views of the Bruges skyline from the front windows. The information provided by the owners in advance of our stay was excellent and they were easily contactable and responsive.

NetherlandsIn the bed sheets were some bleach spots, and there was a lot of dust in the apartment.
The location was perfect. In a couple of minutes, you're in the city center. The apartment was very quiet during the night, and the beds were comfortable. There was plenty of room in the apartment to cook and sit.

United States- Plumbing water smell is unavoidable in this small space. - Some cleanliness: Shower and bathroom sink are slow to drain, old toast in toaster, smooshed mosquitos on walls, downstairs trash bin always full/smelly. - No airflow if windows are closed (so they must remain open in warmer temperatures, which invites mosquitos). - For longer term stays, need to extend mid-trip cleaning to swap linens (or have other sets available upon arrival).
- This is a studio apartment, good for a 1-2 traveler short-term stay. - The location was excellent. - The bed was really comfortable. - The Waffles & Beer event was really fun and engaging (which you can book through the same hosts). - When we had questions, the hosts wwere very accommodating and friendly. Their good service notably improved our rating.

United KingdomThe only thing that took a bit of getting used to was the steep staircase to the apartment - it wouldn’t be suitable for anyone with any mobility issues , (or after too many beers 😂 )

NetherlandsFloors creak in places, rain causes surprisingly much noise outside the bedroom window. Kitchen is OK, but not great if you want to cook dinner. Some light switches take a finesse we don't seem to have. Shower cabin is small. Opinions on the bed/matress differred.
Relatively spacious appartment. Easy (self) check in and out, staff easily reachable. Smart TV. Close to city centre, supermarket and parking garage. Good black out curtains.

ColombiaThe apartment is very central, yet in a quiet location, steps from a beautiful park and also a Proxy food store with a much better selection than other chains in Holland, including a good variety of decent dishes to heat up in the microwave. We were easily able to take the free shuttle bus to and from the station and then leave our suitcases inside the building. The kind cleaning lady told us she would have our room ready at two, so we moved in then. The kitchen is quite well equipped but lacks a few items such as a cutting board. In any case it was completely adequate for our two-night stay. Hans is an excellent host who responds promptly to all concerns. In summary, the place fully met our needs in Bruges and the location could only be better with a canal view, which is of course a big luxury here.

NetherlandsThe entryway looked awful and smelled bad. The appartment itself was also pretty musty and needs renovation badly. The shower for example is rusting all around. This makes it hard to know if the place is dirty or just needs renovation.

PortugalJust an observation: for those who do not enjoy a bed with a soft mattress (like myself), the nights might not be as restful.
The location of the house is fantastic: parking is a 1-minute walk away, the supermarket is 200 meters away, and the city center is just a 4 minute walk. Communication with the owners was extraordinary, always very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this apartment.
