How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHost friendly and very eager to help, supermarket nearby, big bathroom, breakfast well taken care of. Clean room. The house itself is pretty.
For us this was not a problem, but the accomodation was a bit far from center/attractions. Biggest concern: there was a party from the neighbours with extreme loud and annoying music (it stopped just before 10pm). Location is not very pretty. An airco would be better than a ventilator. Bit overpriced.
Dear Fabio, I usually welcome any feedback from my guests – even negative ones – as long as it is constructive, true, and fair. Unfortunately, you left out some important details. When you booked, you specifically asked for a very quiet room. Because I felt this was a key point for you, I clearly explained the reality of my small B and B: it is located in an old house, in the center of a city with over one million inhabitants. I expressed my concerns about your high expectations and, three times, I suggested that you consider booking a more modern building or a less central location. Each time, you declined. My neighborhood is usually very calm, and in 15 years of hosting I have never received complaints about the quiet street where my B&B is located. However, you chose to come on June 21st – the annual “Fête de la Musique,” celebrated in many European cities, including Brussels. As you noted, my neighbors held a garden party that evening (something I cannot control). The music ended before 10 p.m., and the rest of the night was extremely quiet, as usual. I therefore don’t believe your sleep was truly disturbed. That being said, if silence is such a priority for you, it might be worth reflecting on your own behavior: other guests reported being disturbed by your loud conversations and doors slamming – not by the street outside. Regarding the heatwave that weekend: I was fully aware of the discomfort it could cause. That’s why I offered you the option of moving to the top-floor apartment, which is larger, benefits from cross-ventilation when the windows are open, and also has air conditioning. You chose not to take this option. Your comment of 6 out of 10 is therefore surprising. The room was clean, the breakfast appreciated, and I did my best to be helpful (including an early check in without extra fee). As for your remark about the price, it suggests you may not be aware of the actual cost of living here and the effort required to maintain a quality experience. Finally, regarding location: what counts as an “attraction” depends on each guest. My B and B is in the EU district – one of the most important areas for many visitors to Brussels – and only a 25-minute walk from the Grand Place, which I assume qualifies as an “attraction” in your view. Fortunately, the vast majority of my guests do recognize my efforts and appreciate their stay, as reflected in my overall excellent ratings. Best regards, Didier

Verified reviewThe location is ideal especially for someone who wants to be close to the European institutions. The house was just like in the photos, clean, full of light and very spacious. My room was quiet and autonomous. There was coffee machine and caps available and the kitchen was fully equipped. The breakfast was very good and rich, prepared by Didier, the wonderful host. Didier is there for anything someone might need, very kind and friendly, but also very discreet. I would certainly stay there again if I had the chance.
I haven't noticed something annoying. Nevertheless, it should be mentioned that the room I stayed was in the 3rd floor, and some people might have a physical weakness to deal with all these stairs.

Verified reviewEverything about the B&B was wonderful and perfect for our needs. It is in an ideal location within walking distance of Grand Place and EU Parliament. The metro and central station are also nearby. Our host Didier was so friendly and helpful with advice and recommendations. He provided a personal touch to our stay that you would not experience at a hotel. The breakfast was delicious. We stayed in the studio apartment and I loved the modern minimal decor. There's a lovely little balcony. It's very bright and spacious with a well appointed kitchen and private bathroom.
Not a negative, but as an fyi, there are a lot of stairs up to the studio and no lift which might not suit everyone. For us, it was manageable and our host, Didier helped us to bring up the luggage :)
