How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBeautiful boutique hotel, extraordinary interior design, cozy room, beautiful bar - great view also from the rooftop. Spa was amazing too. Location was right in the middle of the shopping area - amazing shops small and big! Every staff member was very friendly. 😍
Didnt realize spa was exclusive (1hr 85 euro) when booking but I would do it again
Dear Rebecca ae, Thank you for your lovely review! We’re so glad you enjoyed the design, the rooftop view, the spa, and our central location. It’s great to hear our team made you feel welcome as well. We appreciate your note about the spa pricing and will work on making that clear but we’re happy to hear you’d still do it again! Warm regards, Front Office

Verified reviewI’m honestly a bit speechless about my beautiful stay at Hotel Julien. After 10 days of work in Scotland, my five days in Antwerp were a much-needed break. I’d injured my knee a few weeks earlier, and the hotel staff went out of their way to move me to a room near the elevator—which wasn’t easy. They even offered to help me find a doctor, and by some miracle, got me an appointment next door at 11 a.m. that same morning. It was incredibly helpful. The staff truly seemed to care and take pride in their work—real customer service, which feels increasingly rare, especially coming from the U.S. The hotel itself is a hidden architectural gem. From my room, I had a stunning view of the cathedral, beautifully lit up at night. The location is perfect for walking or hopping on the tram, and I always felt safe. Another hidden treasure at the Julien is their serene hammam and an incredible massage therapist—both made my stay feel like a retreat. It was hard to leave what had become a sanctuary for me. I’m deeply grateful to everyone at Hotel Julien for such a memorable and healing stay. I hope to return someday!
My first room was small, plain, and up a long flight of stairs, so the upgrade was a huge gift. Breakfast was delicious but light—though you can order more à la carte. The only downside was getting there from the train; finding the bus depot and a taxi wasn’t easy. I wish the arrival process were simpler.
Dear, Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. We’re truly glad we could offer you care and comfort during your stay, and it means a lot to hear our team made a difference. We appreciate your feedback on arrival logistics, for future visits, feel free to contact us by phone or e-mail in advance. We’re happy to help make your arrival easier. We hope to welcome you back someday, it would be our pleasure. Kind regards, Front Office

Verified reviewCharming hotel in the center of Antwerp and within walking distance of the Meir.
What disappointed me was, on the one hand, the quality of the bed, which I found truly substandard, and on the other hand, the soundproofing in the hotel. Despite the limited number of rooms, you can hear almost everything happening in the hallway. That doesn’t create a comfortable feeling and comes across as quite disturbing. The price-quality ratio was also disappointing. A hotel charging +€500 per night should offer more. For example, the pillows were too small, there were hardly any complimentary toiletries, the bathtub was personally too small, and the towels were a bit too rough (like sandpaper). The ventilation grilles could also use a cleaning some were covered in dust. From a 4-star hotel in the heart of Antwerp, I honestly expected a bit more.
Dear Mci, Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We're pleased to hear you enjoyed Hotel Julien’s central location and charming atmosphere. We're sorry to hear that some elements of your stay didn’t fully meet your expectations. Verified reviewI rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Hotel Julien left me no choice. I had my luggage stored at the front desk after checkout. When I returned later that afternoon, I discovered that €80 in cash had been stolen from my wallet inside the bag. I immediately reported the incident to the staff. One of them assured me that CCTV footage would be sent to me within 24 hours. However, the footage was never provided. I followed up multiple times by phone ,but most calls were ignored or abruptly cut off. After four days and a formal complaint to Booking.com, the hotel replied that they “could not send it” offering no explanation or apology. They never took responsibility. If the hotel was truly unable to provide CCTV footage, then their initial promise to send it to me within 24 hours was clearly intentionally misleading. They gave me false hope, knowing they couldn’t or wouldn’t follow through — a tactic to stall for time and deflect accountability. This alone reveals how little genuine intention they had to resolve the issue from the start. As a solo traveler, this experience left me feeling violated, anxious, and completely unsupported. It’s not just about the theft — it’s the false promises, silence, and refusal to help that made this situation much worse. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. If you value safety, honesty, and accountability — look elsewhere
Dear Mrs, Given the tone and frequency of your messages, I am responding here on the platform to ensure clarity. Please be assured that your concerns were taken seriously and thoroughly investigated. After discussions with both our Front Office Coordinator and Operations Manager, I am confident they treated you with sincere care and attention, especially upon your return to the hotel. Regarding the allegation of €80 missing from your backpack: an internal investigation was conducted, including a review of security footage and staff interviews. No evidence supports the claim that your belongings were accessed. I trust our long-standing staff, who consistently uphold high standards of integrity. To clarify, my colleague could not – and legally may not – grant you access to security recordings, as these are protected under privacy laws and only accessible through formal legal channels. We acknowledge your refund request via Booking.com. However, due to the absence of evidence and inconsistencies in your public accusations, we must state that your claims are unfounded and damaging to our team’s reputation. If you believe a theft occurred, we encourage you to report it to the police – which you previously declined. Should a formal investigation be opened, we will fully cooperate with authorities. Please note that if defamatory accusations persist, we will be compelled to submit our own statement to law enforcement to protect the integrity of our hotel and staff. At Hotel Julien, we remain committed to professionalism, transparency, and guest well-being. At the same time, I stand by my team and their commitment. We will not be influenced by pressure or veiled threats. We have submitted our account of the situation, along with your refund request to Booking as well. Finally, we have noted your suggestion of a complimentary night in Hotel Julien as a compensation. Given the circumstances, this raises concerns about your intentions. As a precaution, we have informed the Antwerp Hotel Association (AHA) of this case. Wishing you all the best, General Manager

Elevator was not working, and nobody told me that this is just temporarily. Luckily, I figured it out by myself and didn’t have to go by stairs with my heavy suitcase on my check-out day. On the day of my check-in there was no men staff to help me with my heavy suitcase. Lady offered me her help, but that’s unfair to ask another lady to carry my heavy luggage, so I refused. There was also a misunderstanding about which door to use to get to the part of the hotel, where I lived. At the check-in I was told to use second door, and was using it first couple of days , then suddenly it turned out that I have to use the main one, but one of the staff ladies was very unfriendly and couldn’t explain anything calmly why rules have suddenly changed and how I can get from one part of the hotel to another. Stupid phone in the room was beeping every 5 min. Heating was not working, however, I didn’t have time to report this, perhaps someone would have helped me with this.

Verified reviewThe fact that property was deceitful and unfair regarding the construction taking place. The price that I have been charge which is much higher than average price for that standard was paid for the designer hotel and the hotel as an experience by itself, meanwhile what we have received for the price of over £600 for two days was a bed and a shower. We have not been informed about the construction prior to the booking just after we have already booked and paid for the stay. Hotel is consistently ignoring taty fact and refusing to take responsibility for it. None of the hotel amenities were available for guests and our stay was accompanied by constant noise of construction works taking place. The hotel’s position on the matter is deceitful, unfair and taking advantage of its customers. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
