Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIts difficult to find something not to like as the Carlton has everything, maybe a little more pressure out of the showers is a very minor detail but it doesn't stop out selection of choosing this hotel or recommending in the future
Fantastic hotel and facilities which we have used now four times on our annual return drive from criatas and over night stop off before crossing tge channel Our first time having breakfast due to a later crossing and brilliant l. The lady making breakfast and selection on offer is great and lots of choice and freshly cooked anything, within reason as you so desire

GermanyUnfortunately, the train station is a half an hour walk into the historic downtown of Gent. Though the walk is very pleasant along the river Lys. Also, there are two trams running downtown or one can use the Dott scooters or e-bikes as well.
Since we've traveled by train, the Carlton was conveniently located in a quiet side road within a three minutes walking distance from the station. There are a few relatively good restaurants in walking distance as well. We've noticed plenty of parking available in the vicinity of the hotel. We had a room on the third floor looking out of the back of the house. The room was very large, spotlessly clean and quiet day and night. There was a coffee maker, a small fridge, and filtered drinking water was provided. The HVAC system was working well, no smell, no noise. The perfect place to be and to relax.

United KingdomThe lift was small and noisy.
Close to the train station and trams to the centre of the city. Lovely bright, attractive room with comfortable beds. Excellent first impressions. Staff were friendly, and the receptionist on arrival spent time explaining on a map where the major attractions were and how to get there, which we found most helpful. The room had air conditioning, which was lovely when the outside temperature was 30+ degrees C.

CanadaWe knew we chose a hotel out of the city core and it was about a 25 minute walk to the castle (one landmark to gauge the distance). We walked through the park and along the canals which was lovely.
The staff that greeted us was so pleasant and welcoming. He helped us figure out the street parking and ensured we knew the rules to avoid a ticket. The room was a really good size and comfortable. It was walking distance to a beautiful park.

United KingdomNothing. All good :-)
Lovely room, sincere and friendly staff who gave good information as to how to get to the centre. Easy to find from the motorway. On street parking was easy to find right outside the hotel (payable) but I do think they had a garage as well but we didn’t use it. Nice quality toiletries in the room - shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion. Kettle for tea and a coffee machine plus water as complimentary with a small selection of drinks in the fridge which are chargeable. Beds and bedding were comfortable. Probably the best nights sleep we had while away - it was hot in the room so we opened the windows but there were plenty of people having a ‘good time’ outside which made it quite noisy, but when we closed the windows the glazing was very effective and the room had climate control so we were able to cool the room without it being too cold and it wasn’t noisy at all. We didn’t take breakfast so can’t comment. Well situated to the tram and train station which was 5 mins away. Once you got your head round the trams they were straightforward and we were in the city in no time. The festival was on which was a bit of a surprise (last night decision to stay in Gent was impromptu) but a great vibe in amongst the lovely city. Also close to the hotel is a nice park which was pleasant to walk around in the evening. If I were to go back again (esp if driving) I would definitely stay here.

South AfricaThe location was PEFECT. We traveled by train, and it was such a short walk with all our luggage. Then it was also perfect for visiting the main attractions either with the tram or on foot. The breakfast was truly fantastic and so well presented and fresh.
