How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe location was just right . The bicycle to rent .
The stairs to enter the apartment would be a bit of a challenge for some people. The living room area could do with a blind to keep the sun out . It was exceptionally hot when I was there and felt a blind on the window would help to cool the room during the day .

Verified reviewSo spacious - separate bedroom, full kitchen and even a little balcony too! In residential area. So quiet. Easy walk to the centre for restaurants and the sites. Train station also an easy walk. Our host Dominque was lovely. Handy having a shop around the corner.
From the reviews I was expecting the metal stairs up to be worse - we had small luggage so absolutely no issue at all for us at all. If you are a large person then the shower might be a squeeze, but it was no problem for us. If you are looking for affordability - this is the place.

Verified reviewFantastic location in easy walking distance from the centre. Very quiet overnight.
Going up the flights of stairs at the end of the day was not my favourite thing to do.

Verified reviewBreakfast not included which was fine for us. We ended up with an upgrade as there was a problem with original apartment. Was contacted and informed of the problem and offered different apartment that was just around the corner and it was amazing.
There was nothing we could fault the apartment with.

Verified reviewThe apartment was very close to the centre. The Host Barnerd was so helpful. The place was good value for money.
The stairs were a little difficult but our host helped us up and down the stairs with our luggage.

Verified reviewWell situated in the town. Great for a single person or a couple.
This apartment needs a sofa/settee. It really also should be in the description that the access is via a narrow steep iron fire escape up the side of the building. Someone with walking issues would really struggle especially in bad weather. The shower is also very small.

Verified reviewLocation
The staircase was potentially dangerous with narrow stair treads and lack of a handrail on room side. Unsteady or elderly people should definitely be warned.

Verified reviewIdeal location for our trip
He said he upgraded us to another room. Pillows to soft didn't sleep well. No baking tray so couldn't cook what we wanted. Oven was confusing as had old dials for hobs. Floor was dirty. The arm chairs are old, not comfortable and the arms had warm away. Even with the windows open it was still hot in there.

Verified reviewTerrific apartment in great location very near to centre of Ypres. Met by Bernard and were reallocated to the ‘Sandpiper’ unit in the ground floor, with an inside staircase to bedroom and bathroom. Great facilities, separate laundry/secure bike storage area with washing machine and dryer available for €4 each. Fan provided in wardrobe was great. Self contained amenities and everything 2 people need for a stay to discover the area and all it has to offer. Recommended for people without mobility issues due to stairs. Highly recommended to cycle tourers.

Verified reviewIt was not the unit that was advertised. It was noisy with car and people traffic outside the windows. It was not well equipped and we had to buy dish soap and coffee. You had to climb steep stairs to get up to the bedroom. The host was nice.
The shower is so small that when you turn around in it you bump the water control valve into the extreme hot position. My wife bumped her head several times going up or down the stairs. (And she’s only 5’3”.

Verified reviewWell located small apartment which was perfect for what we needed, we got a different apartment to the one that we had booked but not certain if the original one was better or not. Lots of handy information re places to visit and parking.
Check in timings got mixed up but we got in fairly quickly after the phone call.

Verified reviewCompact 2 room apartment with separate bathroom. Quiet with little noise from the street or the neighbours. Decent cooker with 4 hotplates and an oven. Enough pots & pans. The fan in the wardrobe was a real bonus on some very warm evenings. Close to a supermarket, Grote Markt and the Station for public transport.
Several niggling things. Told Bernard about the loose shelves and towel rail so they should be sorted. The main room needs to lose some of the cups and bowls. Far too many for 2 guests. The dining table is the only spare space. There was a microwave in the cupboard but no bowls and anywhere to put it. Extra/spare bin bags would help. The rug under the table could do with a clean. There are washing machines available but nowhere to hang things up to dry. Just little things but simple improvements will be rewarded.
