Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Only one of our rooms was ready at check in, despite us arriving after the stated check in time. Not a huge issue but it would have been nice to had some sort of compensation as it meant one half of our party wasn’t able to shower/change.
Lovely decor, staff were helpful, and great bar/lounge.

The light system in the corridors were not clear nor usefull in my opinion, nice gadget, but do not see the reason doing this. In the bathroom no rain shower: strange these days. No USC C connections anywhere, strange too.

Typical hotel noises - banging doors, cleaning service etc.
The location next to the Oostende station is a good alternative to the seaside. Nice, clean and spacious hotel rooms with balcony. The staff was very accomodating.

At night it was a bit noisy, my room was next to the elevator and people would come in loudly after 2am.
Very kind. Came with my dog and they made sure she had everything she needed. Beautiful rooms. Everything you need and more.

We had a wonderful stay at The Ostendian. Ithe rooms are clean and spacious and we had a fantastic view. The breakfast was really good and the staff was very kind. They even found lactose free food for our son which was great.

No walk in shower but shower in the bath. Otherwise nothing!
The staff is very welcoming. Spacious beautiful room, very trendy. Nice balcony to sit with streetview. Bathroom has all modern facilities. Bar and restaurant are very modern. Large breakfast in a very nice designed area.

Excellent rooms, very well designed and decorated (even the smoke detector had a special design) and all facilities were in place. It is a very new hotel but all was running smoothly. They put a lot of thought in the rooms and hotel and the staff carry the pleasant vibe as well. Warmly recommended.

Everything: the environment is very nice, quite original style all over the hotel and nice furniture and room, very spacious. The breakfast is very good and with a good variety. I also had a quick lunch there, and I loved it as well. The staff was very nice and has been extremely helpful with a little problem I had during the stay. The hotel is located almost in front of the train station, few minutes walk from the sea, with some restaurants very close.

I'd requested a walk-in shower but got a bath/shower. The former are much easier to use for an older person like myself. The duvet on the bed was too thick but the hotel did not have thinner, more comfortable, alternatives!
Hotel staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Breakfast choice and quality were excellent. Location great, close to main public transport hub (station, etc) and plenty of restaurants nearby.

Nothing. We did not use their restaurant, so I don’t know if it’s good or not.
It is very near the train and tram stations. And the center of town, with lots of restaurants and brasseries, is an easy walk.

Not our case but the bathtub could be an issue for elderly or even only slightly disabled people. The quilt on the bed felt way to warm for us, but that's subjective.

They should be clear about prices. On top of 143 Euro per night, they charged me 25 Euro extra for the breakfast.

The cleanning staff was doing a lot of noise early in the mornings. They open our door twice to try to clean but we were sleeping in the room. The hotel is a bit far from the beach, but close to the train station (we came by car so bad for us). The decoration is not good for my presonal taste, I think they tried to give a 60's look but just it doesn't work, it looks old.
The bed was super comfortable and the building looks very modern and new. The reception staff are very friendly and helpful

I was missing better bread and was treated very unwelcoming by the bar staff. I said hi and they simply with a very stern no wait and then did not say anything for 10 minuten without further communication so I left
