How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHostel Cosmopolitan is the hostel perfect for Solo Travellers like me. It's very social. The employees, volunteers and also the owner are super nice and welcoming and helped me a lot. There were also events for example once we did a barbecue and another day we went to a Karaoke Bar together. I really felt at home and didn't even want to leave (I enlarged my stay everyday). My favourite spot was the Pool where I went every evening but the hammock is also great to relax. The location is perfect! The supermarket and the beach are only 5-10 mins from the hostel and the center is easily accessible by Uber (20 mins) or bus (30 mins)

Only 2 toilets/showers for all the dorms, a bit annoying

Verified reviewVery friendly staff, volunteers and other guests so there was a good social vibe. I enjoyed the simple breakfast and coffee, and sometimes free cake. The bed was comfortable enough. Filtered water was good although the stream was weak so it took a while to fill up water bottles! Good location within walking distance of the beach and close to a main road with buses to the airport or the old town of Recife.
I wish I could rate this hostel higher based on my experience with the staff/volunteers/other guests, but unfortunately, the room was not great. The window was broken and couldn't close properly which is problematic when there are many mosquitoes just outside. We had to use a bag and tape to cover the open part of the window. The room smelled bad most of the time, and the towels were very old and stained or worn down. The bathroom smelled and the toilet flush was extremely weak so it was difficult to flush most of the time. One night ants were falling from the roof in the bathroom so they were all over the bathroom floor.

Verified reviewgood location, walk to the beach. possible to take a bus get to the airport. very clean bathroom.
when I check-in, the reception didn't give me the change because out of cash, and said would offer it when check-out. the day I check out, again they said no cash for me. Well, real 3 is a small one, not a big deal (maybe that's how they think even it is true ). But the way how they work make me a bit speechless.

Verified reviewThe staff was very nice, in the hostel is everything you need and the central location.
In general it was a nice stay and the staff is friendly and supports. But my shoes were stolen in the hostel which I put outside the room. It can happen but the way the manager handled this situation was very bad in my opinion. I gave my phonenumber to the reception so the manager could make contact to me because she is the only one with acess to the cameras. In the end of the day she didn't even gave a feedback and even asking for the contact of the manager, the reception was not allowed to pass me her phone number. Never seen this in a company or hostel that you cannot contact the manager if something serious happens. The next day the reception told me that the manager looked at the videos of the camera but in this especific area it was possible to identify a person. I haven't seen one image and until the end was not possible to have a direct contact to the manager. So I have the impression, if there are no problems, the hostel is nice, nice staff but if there is any problem you are not able to contact the manager. Hopefully she rethinks her way to handle situations like this.

Verified reviewCouldn't use the pool as it was always dirty with leaves and many things. The backyard was very dirty. Someone gutted and cooked fish every day so it smelled horrible in the entire hostel.

Verified reviewThe staff was amazing and the people awesome. The facilities were okay and could be improved. The location is good as it's close to the beach but far away from any real tourist activity/old town.
The bed sheets could be improved and maybe the bed drawer were really noisy.

Verified reviewMad a friend!
I could be much cleaner with very little effort. Many things need proper repair, like faucets, the lockers beneath the beds, and the fan in the living room that makes so much noise it’s impossible to sleep in the dorm just next to it. The still water of the pool is not reassuring
