Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsOnly breakfast served. Would be nice to have the option of dinner too which you could have guests sign up for in the morning. An uncomplicated ‘Prato do dia’
Located in a wonderfully creative cultural area Santa Tereza. Fantastic views of the Bay Area and Sugar Loaf mountain.

United StatesNot dramatic (thus why I didn't ask the host to provide it), but: - Missing a stool to put the Suitcase - Missing shades to prevent mosquitos to get in when the window/door is open - Hair dryer was very weak in my room - Wardrobe doors were hard to move
Great location Superb view from the dining room and the pool Superb breakfast every day Good air condition Responsive and very nice host

South AfricaI don't know how they do it, but this guesthouse felt like I was visiting friends or family. I felt right at home. Adriana and her staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome and point me to the best attractions in Santa Teresa but also in Rio de Janeiro. As if it couldn't get any better than all this, the views are exquisite and the breakfast is amazing. I would go back in a heartbeat.

Fantastic location in the hills overlooking Rio and Sugar Loaf mountain in the distance, walking distance to many different restaurants also had the best breakfast with fresh fruit and home baked cakes. Large room with Comfy bed. Chris who meet upon arrival provided many tips and tricks to enjoy our time in Rio. Could not find any fault with Gerthrudes and would defiantly stay here again.

I am slightly biased as this is my 2nd stay over the years here but I can’t help it, it’s my favorite place to stay in Rio! Adriana & team are a delight and have created something special out there in Santa T! The location, the view of sugar loaf from the pool/ garden, the rooms, cleanliness and breakfast - you just can’t beat this combo! Thank you as always, can’t wait to come back

United KingdomWe had an issue with mosquitos in our room which was probably due to the door to our balcony being left open.
We loved our stay here. Rooms were comfortable and well decorated. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was amazing! The communal areas were stylish and had lots of interesting decorations and features. The pool and view from it are spectacular.

FranceWe had an exceptional stay at Gerthrude's. Adriana was super helpful before we arrived as I had a small issue with my credit card, and on the day of our early arrival Stefen looked after us well with recommendations of local places to visit and restaurants which we followed. Local area of shops and bars is vibrant and fun and a nice contrast to the Rio beach scene. We were able to enjoy breakfast and leave our bags before checking in later in the day. The hotel is really very charming, calm and with a stunning overlook of the city. There were only the two of us but we booked the duplex which has room for three people, and I would recommend as the upper level is a nice seperate space to enjoy. The breakfast is great and in a bright, spacious dining room with period furniture. Can't recommend highly enough and it was a shame we only stayed a coule of nights. Thank you!

United StatesNothing negative, everything was perfect.
Amazing bed and breakfast place. Rooms, facilities, breakfast, service are all 5-star. We did not expected this place being so exclusive. Location is also amazing, right in the middle of old Santa Teresa neighborhood with many bars and restaurants just minutes walk away. The place is secluded and away from bustling and hustling of the city center. You will need taxi or Uber to get to the beaches or Lapa, where nightlife is happening.

NetherlandsThe property is very charming and very well taken care of. Clearly attention is being paid to every detail within the B&B. We were especially charmed by all the design choices made throughout the property, contributing greatly to a wonderful, warm atmosphere. Plus the pool and garden area are great to relax for a bit if you want to. The room was great also: spacious with a nice large bed, plenty of storage space and great water pressure in the shower. Adriana and Christopher were such pleasant hosts, making all interactions before and during our stay very lovely. We would love to come back if we visit Rio again.
