How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewPeople are nice and there are so many activities they organize! For sure this is something quite rare. For sure it's a good place for socialising...but anything else... :(
Rooms are claustrophobic, not that clean, beds are old and not confortable , the place is quite far from the center
Hi Sergio, thanks for your feedback :) We were happy that the people were nice and that you liked our daily activities. We are also glad that you found it a good place to socialize and make new friends. Regarding the rooms, we understand that they may seem small, but it is the same as in our profile pictures. Regarding the cleanliness, we will talk to the corresponding staff to ask for more attention. And we will also look into the situation of the bed you stayed in to improve it. We apologize for that. We send you a big hug Familia Lagarto🥰🦎

Verified reviewI didn't like a lot. Very scenic, yes, located basically between trees, in the forest. But people and everything very hippy-alternative. Breakfast is free, but very late (starting at 9am; very hard if you want to enjoy the day). The beds were very good and it was cool at night and during the day, at cost of a lot of mosquitos. The co-wrking space is very simple, barely good to really work. Dinner expensive. Not very centric, kind of remote with very bad street (15min walk from center). Kind of bad to walk when it rains.
Hi Hetch, thank you very much for sharing your feedback with us. We truly appreciate it as it helps us improve. We’re glad you enjoyed the natural surroundings, being nestled among the trees is definitely one of our unique features. We understand the hippie-alternative vibe isn’t for everyone, and we respect your perspective and we also consider that it is not only a place for alternative hippies, people from many different ideologies and countries come here, and that is the beauty of the place too, the alternatives and the differences. Regarding breakfast starting at 9am, we’d like to share that this schedule is set because we offer inclued yoga classes earlier in the morning, 8 am, for our guests who enjoy starting their day with some mindfulness and movement. However, we appreciate your feedback and will consider ways to better accommodate different routines. t’s great to hear the beds were comfortable and that the temperature was pleasant! About the mosquitoes, we are working on solutions to reduce their presence. We’re sorry the coworking space didn’t meet your expectations. We’re looking into ways to improve its comfort and functionality. Regarding dinner, it costs 25 reais and offers very good quality dishes. We believe this is a fair price for a high level dinner experience. As for the location, we’re indeed situated in a quieter, more remote area, which appeals to those seeking peace, but we understand it might not be ideal for guests wanting to be closer to the center. Regarding the walk during rainy days, we’re exploring infrastructure improvements to ensure safety and comfort. Thanks again for your feedback. We hope you still found some positive moments during your stay, and we’re always open to further conversation.🥰 Big hugs for you Lagarto na banana Family💚🦎

Verified reviewGood breakfast Clean sheets, pillowcase Hot shower
Rule to wear a hat even when you are washing dishes after breakfast Hostel is in the forest, there is high humidity, things get wet from the air It’s not so close to the beaches, but it’s ok - walkable
Hi Jakub thank you very much for your feedback. We were very happy that you liked our breakfast, the hot shower and that the sheets and pillowcase were clean :) The rule of having a hat when we are cooking or serving food is a sanitary rule, as it is to prevent hair from falling into the food, and we only ask for it when we are preparing or serving food. Just as you say, the hostel is among many trees, so if it rains a lot, as it has happened these past weeks, it may feel a little more humid at those times, but when we have a little sun, everything gets better :) The distance, 15 minutes from the center, is described in our profile, and as you said it is not very far, it is a reasonable distance. We send you a big hug. Lagarto Family🦎🥰

Verified reviewLet me start with the outcome: I arrived planning to stay just one day, I ended up staying a full month. There’s no other way I can put it: among all the hostels I’ve visited, Lagarto is truly unique. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the amazing group of volunteers who immediately made me feel at home. I also felt that the strong sense of community spreads to all the guests, creating a super nice atmosphere. In general if you enjoy socializing, this is the right place. There are plenty of shared spaces and daily activities (great free yoga classes; incredible evening jam sessions) that get people together. The food is delicious and also healthy, and yes there’s even a cozy tree house. Can’t wait to come back

Verified reviewTUDO! Everything is set in place to meet people and share good time: the commons spaces, the activities (especially the karaoke), the food … everything is amazing. The volunteers are so nice and very proactive. We felt like in a small community and part of it after few days. Thanks so much ! Manon, Martin et Charles from France

Verified reviewHostel has amazing activities every night to get to know other travelers, free yoga once a day, delicious family dinners every night for a reasonable price.
It was a bit of a walk into town (about 10 minutes) and it felt a bit cliquey. Clear divide between those that spoke Spanish and Portuguese and those that didn’t.
Hi Jennifer thank you very much for your feedback. How nice that you liked our activities for people to get to know each other better, the daily yoga, the vegetarian dinner which is always delicious, a beautiful moment for all of us to get together. Regarding the location, it is in our profile, and although it may be a little far, 10 or 15 minutes walking, which gives us a greater contact with nature :) With groups sometimes people feel more comfortable talking to someone in their own language, but we thank you for your observation and we will continue working to integrate people, it is always our main goal. We send you a big hug Familia Lagarto🥰🦎

Verified reviewAmazing food, amazing activities (yoga + daily evening activities), great vibes and community feel You'll make friends instantly! Best place I've stayed in south America- I stayed like 5 times longer than planed!
Be prepared for the fact that the facilities aren't 5 star, it is all very basic, but worth it for the atmosphere and enjoyment just being there!

Verified reviewI stayed in lagarto for 4 nights and I had a great time. The vibe and people are really nice and there’s a lot of activities every day. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable. The whole area of the hostel is cute and there’s lots of hammocks all over the place, which I loved. Overall an awesome hostel. Looking forward to come back soon!
The fan in my room didn't really hit my bed which is why it was sometimes very hot at night

Verified reviewNice place, very social. Staff is super nice and really tries to make your stay comfortable. Perfect common area to meet others and they create many opportunities to meet people. For example breakfast and dinner at 1 long table.
The private rooms are fine but there's one thing that I really feel like's missing and that's a mosquito net. Rooms are not closed off enough to keep the mosquitoes out and there are a lot of them. So in a place like this mosquito nets wouldn't have been a luxury.
