How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis hotel has a magnificent location. We had a room at a few meters from the sea with an marvellous view directly from our bed. There is a beautiful beach located in 5 min walking distance from the hotel. Adolfo and Leo are great hosts and they helped us in many aspects while planning our stay. The food is very good, prepared home under supervision of Adolfo’s wife Maria. I warmly recommend this hotel while staying in Ilha Grande.

Verified reviewThe location is great. It's located right on the water. We could swim off the dock with the fish. We appreciated the multiple day beds and other lounging options by the water. The hosts were friendly.
The ladder getting in and out of the water was loose and slippery.

Verified reviewWe loved our stay at Mar da Lua, whether it was our room with its exceptional view, the hotel facilities or the friendliness of the staff. The hotel's setting is heavenly, and we were even able to swim with turtles on several occasions. This side of the island is wilder and quieter. There are some great hikes starting from the hotel. The food is also very good.

Verified reviewWe had a fantastic time at Mar da Lua, the place is in paradise! The area is a perfect balance of feeling away from it all but still easy access and a few restaurants around. The room had fantastic views and the food was always amazing at the pousada. Leo is a wonderful and friendly host. Thanks for having us.
Nothing! We had a fantastic time in paradise.

Verified reviewThe location The spot is absolutely beautiful. The deck area overlooking the bay with fish and turtles visible is perfect. There is plenty of outdoor seating and the hotel provides snorkelling gear (free) and paddle boards (small charge). You can also access both beaches on foot within 10 minutes. We didn’t actually visit the main beach in Aracatiba because the smaller beach recommended to us by Leo was so beautiful. There is a small grocery story with all the essentials a 5-minute walk away and multiple restaurants within 10-15 minute walk. The Staff Leo met us straight from the boat and was super friendly and helpful throughout the entire stay. Every little thing we asked of him he was happy to help with. He even helped to organise our transfer to a different hotel we were staying at on the other side of the island, helping us to save some money by doing it as part of the boat trip instead of ordering a boat taxi. The Food Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. A good variety of pastries and cold meats/cheese, and fresh eggs cooked however you like them. There was also a fresh cake cooked every morning and a big selection of delicious, fresh fruit. We only ate dinner there once because we wanted to try out the other local restaurants but it was the best thing we had. The maqueca was really good. It comes for two with plenty of rice. We would highly recommend.
This isn’t a dislike, as it was made clear when booking, but people should be aware that the actual rooms are a little rustic. The bed is large and comfy, there is air con that works all day, you have a small fridge, and the shower is nice and hot. Given how beautiful the outside area is, this is really all you need.

Verified reviewbeautiful sunset from the dock
For what we paid, we expected something much nicer. The room felt like a summer camp cabin, the Wi-Fi barely worked, and the broken shower curtain meant no privacy from the deck. We saw cockroaches in the dining area, which was open to the kitchen — not exactly appetizing. Aracatiba itself doesn’t have much going on either. Save your money and stay in Abraão instead.

Verified reviewMar da Lua is an incredibly beautiful get away. This is my favorite place in Brazil so far and I was sad to leave!
(Note: after taxes are added, the lunch and dinner costs at the pousada are very expensive. We were surprised when we got the bill.)

Verified reviewI liked everything about the accommodation. You arrive and are greeted in a friendly manner. The atmosphere between the people there is very informal, very courteous and simply great. The hotel is located on a jetty and is simply paradisiacal. You can enjoy the peace and quiet and the untouched nature. I can only recommend this hotel to anyone. We will be back!

Verified reviewMar da Lua is located in a truly beautiful spot on the island. We were able to swim with sea turtles every day; a perfect place for snorkeling. Leo the manager, did an amazing job of making our stay truly memorable. His English, friendly approach, and attitude are great; his knowledge of the island and help in planning our stay made for a memorable experience. Nothing was too much trouble for him! The breakfast was excellent, accompanied by a home made cake every morning, local fruits and freshly squeezed orange juice. The food in the restaurant was delicious, with a wide variety of seafood on offer, such as: shrimps, octopus, calamari etc. We must not forget to mention the three ladies, Maria, Camila and Regina, which were cooking and serving us; they did a great job as well; always kind and happy to help. Definitely a place we will return to. Thank you Leo for making this a special stay for us!
We stayed in the Deluxe Suite with Sea view - another bedside table with a lamp would be much appreciated; there is only one lamp, the light bulb on this one to be replaced with a stronger one for reading. A stronger ceiling light bulb. Ceiling fans in the restaurant. Some soft waterproof mattresses for the sun loungers, because everyone spends most of the time outdoors on this amazing deck, admiring the view. Thank you!

Beaches are only a few minutes' walk. Lots of restaurants to choose from. There are plenty of hikes and trails nearby. The room was clean and comfortable. Perfect stay for us. Highly recommend.

We were pleased we moved rooms because our first room was a little small.
