Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyNot all Uber drivers will bring you up so sometimes it’s a 15 minutes walk uphill. If you are sporty it’s nice, if not it may be uncomfortable.
Nice favelas experience, feeling safe and included in the community, not touristic. Surrounded by the jungle (we saw a monkey during breakfast), ver calm and chill. Bibi’s breakfasts are the best!

New ZealandAccess to the property is up a short, steep road that Uber and a lot of taxis will not go up. Then there is a significant number of stairs in the walk to reach it. If you are game, mototaxis will take you up, we were! The quality of the stay overcame these challenges.
Bibi is an excellent host, she has gone to a lot of trouble to provide a very well presented room in a peaceful property. The breakfast was superb. Bibi went out of her way to make our stay enjoyable. There is an adventure element to staying in a favela which means bringing the least amount of luggage will make it more enjoyable. We were on a long trip across several climate zones and this created a challenge getting up to the property, Bibi sorted things out, of course.

United KingdomClimbing up all the way can be tiring but the local boys run a `moto-taxi' service from the favela entrance which costs only 5 BRL - from where they drop you off there are only about 50 more steps.
Breakfast is served after 8am but is worth the wait. Different every day but always a treat ... fresh fruit, crunchy cereal, pancakes or toast, sometimes eggs, coffee or tea - served in the lovely courtyard. You can make yourself a tea or coffee anytime in the communal kitchen. My room was spotlessly clean and delightful with quirky recycled furniture and good wi-fi reception. The views from the terrace are amazing! Best of all is the warm welcome by Bibi and her staff.

ColombiaThe hostel is in a beautiful part of the favela, with a great view around the corner. We felt very safe and comfortable. The rooms were accommodating for what we needed. The walk up to Estrelas is pretty steep uphill for about 10 minutes, so just be prepared for that. Not a deterrent, but something to be aware of. Bibi and Barbara were very helpful and kind, and went above and beyond to help make our stay even better.

United KingdomThere is no air conditioning in the rooms, just a fan above the bed. The mini fridge also didn't work in our room so we couldn't keep food close to us. However, we did speak to the staff and were able to keep some items in a communal fridge. We didn’t feel threatened or unsafe at any point, although we did see a person on our final day with a gun. Overall it was a fantastic experience staying here :)
The breakfast here really is amazing! Believe the reviews! We were greeted by little monkeys on one morning. The pousada genuinely is in a favela. It takes a good amount of walking to reach the location up stairs but this added to the experience of staying here. We didn’t feel threatened or unsafe at any point. Its also in a great location close by to leme/copacabana beach which we went to every day on our stay here. Be careful of the waves on the beach!

NetherlandsBibi (the owner) took the time to welcome us, introduce us to the Brazilian culture, the neighborhood and gave us tips for our trip. Besides, she was super sweet and open to help us when we needed it. The property is located in a fabella but it is safe for tourists, nothing happened to us. The vibe of the accommodation was cool and it was surrounded by nature. The breakfast was made by Bibi and it was delicious.

-it’s a very unique experience to have an accommodation in a Favela, the community was very nice and Bibi and her staff very lovely - Thanks again -the breakfast is the best we had in whole Latin America 🥰 and it’s served in the little garden , we even saw parrots -we felt very safe in the favela, safer as at night time in copacabana, but the first time walking up can be intimidating, but Bibi walked with us & explained everything -it’s a very unique experience to have an accommodation in a Favela, the community was very nice and Bibi and her staff very lovely - Thanks again -the breakfast is the best we had in whole Latin America 🥰 and it’s served in the little garden , we even saw parrots -be aware it’s on a hill, but not a big deal. If you don’t like to climb the stairs, you can take the mototaxi - we loved this experience -you will see sometimes people with guns (also close to the Pousada), just be aware/prepared. We always greet them & it was never a problem

BelgiumWe liked everything. I think the only downside is that the rooms only have a fan and no a/c; it was very hot and humid when we were there (December) as a result a/c would have been welcoming.
A very unique experience to stay in a pacified favela. Bibi, the host, is very welcoming and makes you feel at ease instantly. The rooms are basic but very clean and the breakfast is out of this world! Location is still convenient (not too far away from the main streets and beaches) and very doable on foot. You also have moto taxi’s to get you up if needed. We did not feel unsafe at any time.

UkraineOnly two not very pleasant moments. The road up is difficult and the area is not very clean (but safe) and the internet is also not very good. I think this is due to the location of the house high in the favela, so it's good that there is internet at all, it is enough for simple tasks, but if you are on a workation, then Zoom may not work, or watching movies online.
I am pleasantly surprised by the hospitality of the host Bibi and how she cares about her guest house. While I was on the territory, additional rooms were being renovated (it did not interfere with the rest at all), constant cleaning, everything was perfectly clean. A small but sufficient and tasty breakfast (toast, scrambled eggs, butter, yogurt, muesli, fruit). Lovely, calm and safe place with beautiful view

Bibi was an amazing host! The favela near copacabana is 100% safe and when you reach the top (10min) walk, you will have an amazing view of the whole beach. Hand made breakfast included, it simply can't get any better than this in Leme.

First of all I would like to highlight Omar, he is such a helpful person, always nice, willing to suggest great trips and help with anything. His breakfast were the best, and eating them with coffe in nice little garden, was just the best experience. Do not worry that this stay is in favela. And if you behave safely, there are no worries about your safety....

Omar and his staff were so helpful and friendly. They gave us a very warm welcome. The guest house is situated in a pacified favela and the community was very friendly. The views from the guest house are stunning, overlooking Rio and you can see Christ the Redeemer in the day and lit up at night. We went on a tour of the favela with a local woman which involved some hiking on the fortress trail, incredible views over Rio and Sugar Loaf mountain. There was a Samba party on the Saturday night next to the guest house which we joined in. We are in our 60’s and wanted a different experience to staying in a hotel on Copacabana beach. It exceeded our expectations and we enjoyed eating and drinking at the local bar. It’s situated in Leme which is very well located for all sites and bars and restaurants. It’s an up hill walk of 15/20 minutes to the guest house. We didn’t find this a problem but you can always get a motorbike taxi there. Omar was very helpful before we arrived and sent me a video of how to find them. We got a taxi from the airport and followed the video. It was easy. We felt very safe all the time. Breakfast was delicious.

United StatesNothing to dislike - just be aware that the rooms are basic. No A/C, just a fan. Not a problem for me though.
I stayed at three different hotels during my time in Rio and this was my favorite one! I loved the lush courtyard that made you feel like you're miles away from the city, and chilling in one of the hammocks at night while listening to the birds - a calm little oasis in Rio. Another thing I really appreciated was the delicious breakfast that was served every morning- homemade, and cooked with love. While the pousada is located in a favela, I never felt unsafe there - but this may not be for everyone. Also be aware that the pousada is up on a hill, so if you're mobility-impaired, this may be an issue (the moto taxis can take you only up part of the hill, then there are still some stairs to climb..) I love walking, so it wasn't a problem for me.

United KingdomI booked this place because I read so many incredible reviews and now it’s my turn to add another! The people at this hostel - staff and guests alike made our trip in Rio (it was our first time). They made us feel completely at home, even taking us to incredible, authentic samba, recommending great places to eat, picking us fresh native fruit to try and so much more. We felt super welcomed in by the community in the favela and felt much safer there than on the streets outside. The hostel itself is an oasis of calm- a pleasure to return to after a day in the busy city. I especially recommend this place if you are a solo traveller - I was with my dad this time but it was so easy to meet other wonderful, kind people who are keen to connect and do things together. Finally, the breakfasts are DELICIOUS. A wonderful way to wake up each morning. Also, the beds are super comfy!
