How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I didn’t like that the bathrooms/restrooms are outside your room and you have to share them with other people

The location is second to none. You can visit the beaches, Urca, centre and lapa all within 15-20min in Uber. The Rua Arnaldo Quintela is a stone throw away with trendy bars and restaurants. They keep the toilets and showers very clean.

The bathroom was not always clean (despite the effort of the staff). In a general way it is a good value for money
The staff was nice and helpful. The location is good and the neighborhood is safe as well.

Very hot and no air conditioning and natural ventilation. Also cleaning staff never offered to change my towels the entire 10 nights and seemed to have an attitude when I left old towels on the washing machine and grabbed a new one

Impossible to check in before 9 am, even if you pay for the evening before. Narrow corridor and many stairs up and down to reach the room, difficult to move around with a suitcase, but I guess it would not be a problem with a backpack. By mistake, I made a wrong review about the property on Booking.com and reported it right away. But before Booking.com could fix it, the property owner got really upset and confronted me without giving me the chance to explain what had happened. I had almost to shout to stop him, so he could listen to my explanation. It was indeed my mistake, but his reaction was out of proportion.

There is no TV in one of the rooms, despite stated in the booking confirmation,
The shared bathrooms are very clean. It's very quiet, no noise from the outside, no noise from other guests. The only minus was that there was no TV in one of the rooms, despite it should have been according to the booking confirmation. All in all, a good value for money,

Everything was fine.
Staying here gave me an easy landing in Brazil. It's good value, you get a pleasant roon (with a fridge) in a nice neighbourhood and there's no issue with noise at night. Carlos was very welcoming and always ready to answer questions. I'd really recommend this place.

The ubication in the heart of Botafogo make it accessible to the principal turistic attractions. The beach and the metro are super close, 10 minutes by walk. The owner speaks English which is super nice if you are foreign with level 0 of Portuguese. The price is super fair

Air Conditioner would be better then vent.
Excellent value for money! You don't get your own toilet or kitchen but they are very close and celan and handy. It's clean and has great WIfI AND A tv. Owner is helpfull too. Let's say you get what to pay for cause it's very cheap and just 20-30min from Sugarloaf and Copacabana (by walk).

Only thing missing would maybe be some hobs or a microwave to cook something basic in the kitchen, but there’s enough to make breakfast or some noodles.
Perfect place to stay for a stay in Rio. Very clean, well located, and staff were very helpful and had good recommendations.

I was very happy to be there . Staff is FANTASTIC and makes everything for you to feel like at home . For sure it is the best option in Rio de Janeiro ! You ll stay in a very quiet and central place to explore A Cidade Maravilhosa . Thank you so much Pousada Sobrado !!

they did change our room so instead of double bed we did have a bunk bed
