Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Frequently having to wait for the shared bathroom. Rio is too humid for fan only rooms.
It was fairly close to the beach and was very cheap for the area

The rooms were small and not comfortable. Kitchen was very small and no common area. Property needs a refurbishment all over for a proper upgrade.
The location was very good. Caretaker was very helpful.

The room was tiny - just to have a single bed. I paid huge money for this room, possibly 5 times of its regular rate, because it was the only one available due to the Rock in Rio festival held those days.
The location is pretty good (Copacabana area)

The worst bathroom I've ever been in my entire life. The room was the exact size of the bed too. The price was way too high for that and I hardly ever complain about anything really.

-Room extremely filthy. Wardrobe was so dirty on the outside, I was afraid to open and see inside -Doors to some rooms including mine, don’t fit the frame and gap is stuffed cardboard or such ( not only my room but others too) Any determined 5 year old could push the door in - Room lock was broken , staff did fix it right away so at least I could lock door - Problem with door is small compared to the hazardous condition of this “ inn”. A large apartment was converted without building permits and sectioned by walls without any care for safety building codes and regulations - It’s a fire trap . The place has clearly never been inspected or it would have been shut down a long time ago. HIt’s a maze of extra narrow hallways with doors leading to tiny cell-like rooms without windows ( only a high small window opening to narrow hallway). - no features of a real inn/hotel: the cell-like room I was in had a twin bed, a fan on the floor and a fan in the ceiling . No more room for anything else. One wall had a crusty dusty wardrobe that I did not dare to open -despite reviews mentioning bed bugs, none were spotted however the layers of plastic synthetic “ sheets “ covering mattress suggest possible past issues of some kind. There was no cover sheet and blanket was old . - Staff member I interacted with was polite but NOT the one Booking.com says I intersected with. Staff who showed me my room and fixed the lock was a foreigner ( Latino).

Sewage was getting blocked in the showers and one if the toilet.
Short walk to both Copacabana Ipanemabeaches, cheap price for a double bed, easygoing and helpful staff. If you don't expect luxury for such a low price go for it. If you are expecting European standards, it's not for you. The room I was given was having large windows, high ceilings and independent access. The building and walls are a bit outdated. There's a gas stove in the kitchen

The room was like a dungeon with no ventilation and a table fan. It was very hot and sweating. Not at all clean. Safety also not great as the room door was already broken and fixed. On top of that, the price was so high.
THe host was friendly and explaining. Location is at the prime area.

Some rooms don't have windows but it was only temporary.
Helpful, friendly staff. Clean. Had a sofa area to watch movies/tv.

Location is good. But the owner played a money game with me, and that just doesn't sit well (for anyone). The bed was a thin mattress on a wood board. Like duh! Only one bathroom for who knows 12 people?

When I arrived there was nobody for the check-in. 25min later a man arrived and seemed to be in a really bad mood. He was unfriendly from the beginning and then told me that there are no rooms available today, even I made a reservation. He didn’t even apologise and when I asked him what I should do now he just didn’t care and asked me to leave. Well, thanks for nothing. Worst experience ever!
