How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe lodge are placed perfekt to do gamedrive and trip to chobe, Moremi, Khwai, okawanga delta.
The food are a little bit “boring” and are more or les the same every night. The packed breakfast and lunch are very light and not enough to a hole daytrip and the food is 100% the same every time. Most of the staff are friendly but the manager Christine are a very rude and talk to you in a unappreciated tone. We complained about the lunch and breakfast pack we got on our daytrip. We only got one little yoghurt and an apple to breakfast, so we were very hungry. She completely fooled os as we have had personally offended her. A very unprofessional behavior.

Verified reviewHelpful staff. Animals are able to be viewed from the deck. Comfortable bed. Laundry service.
The accommodation buildings are out of place and keeping with the bush. The headboards are not attached to the wall. No toilet door. The shower wet the bathroom floor. No signal in the room. I needed more drinking water during the night.

Verified reviewClose to nature and that's all
Our stay was unfortunately not what we expected. From the moment we arrived, there were countless rules and restrictions – even a big sign at the entrance listing them all, which was quite unwelcoming. What’s more frustrating is that none of these rules were mentioned during the booking process on Booking.com. One of the most inconvenient rules was the complete ban on eating or drinking in the rooms. We traveled with our camper, bringing our own food and even a small kitchen setup, thinking we could at least prepare our own meals since the listing mentioned an available kitchen. However, we were told this was not allowed unless we booked a camping spot, not a room. This critical detail wasn’t disclosed during the booking process. Adding to the frustration, the prices at the on-site restaurant were shockingly high. A small can of cola cost $8, and a simple meal of chicken, grains, salad, and pudding was $23. Thankfully, we found a picnic site just 300 meters from the entrance where we could finally prepare our own meals. Overall, we felt disappointed and a bit misled, and we wouldn’t recommend this place to travelers who value flexibility and transparent information.
Please if you have nothing good to say at least get your fact straight a can of coke is (P20 that =US$ 1.5) so where in the whole of Botswana did you find a coke for ( US$ 8 that = P110 ???). Your 300m picnic spot is still on my property. All my dinner is a 3 coarse meal

Verified reviewVery well run lodge. Rooms are really nice. Staff are friendly, and helpfull. The owners engage in conversations with their customers and sharing good advice. Restaurant has really good food. Also nicely decorated. Very good 3 course dinner at night. It is a fixed menu, so no a la carte option. But they do consider allergies and probably also other diets. Breakfast and lunch packages are very good, and plenty. Apparently lunch and dinner except drinks were included if you book a room. Nice surprise. Room was nice, clean, and well equiped. Also our vehicle was cleaned. Very nice. Laundry is returned the same day. Very good. Be aware, wild animals do walk at the premises, we were greeted by a hyena on our way back from the restaurant to our room.
Just some minor things It would have be nice to be able to have breakfast before sunrise instead of a packed breakfast when going on a game drive, or receive the packed breakfast the evening before so you can go on a game drive early. The packed breakfast was good though! And we would have preferred a door to close the room's toilet.
Thank you will work on it

Verified reviewWe expected something fairly basic, but it is not basic at all! What a magnificent place. Superb location, massive and very luxurious rooms with full view of the bush and a stunning restaurant and bar area. We also expected to struggle for food. But Mababe River lodge has a wonderful chef, and our meals were delicious and very plentiful. The staff is also very welcoming and professional. We had tons of wildlife around our rooms, including hyena and lion. We will most definitely be back!
Absolutely nothing negative. The only bad thing was that we only booked for one night..
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed your stay with us!! Hope to see you again soon!

Verified reviewBeautiful rooms, nice main area with bar, pool and viewing area
Staff were mainly absent except for meal times - although the waiting staff were lovely. Unstaffed honesty bar so it lacks any vibe or ambience. No-one around eg at sunset to point out animals or answer questions. Rather military timing for meals. Manager pointedly looking at watch when we arrived at 7.12 for our 7pm slot. Red signs everywhere telling you what to do. Not very welcoming overall. Also very unpleasant experience at dinner and in the room with insects.
Hi Julia Thank you for your feed back. Its just a pitty you did not let us know when you were at the Lodge, We would have explain everything to you. The absent staff: We try not to have to many staff in the public area as the majority of our guest prefer to have privacy when using the pool and that is also why we have the honesty bar. Timing for meals: The Manager did asked what was the preffered time for dinner was and that time was determined by yourself and the other guest that had dinner. Looking at the watch: The Manager do applologise but it was nothing intentional about your dinner time. The red signs: The signs we have to do as per council regulations. Regards Thys
