How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewExcellent location close to Chobe River with visiting wildlife. Conveniently closer to road than many lodges. Very good breakfasts.
Over elaborate dinner presentation: expensive food does not always meet expectations. No locks on accommodation doors.
Hi David Thank you for your review and glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. Our chef's have been well trained to do plate up with good presentation and we have a high standard to meet expectations of our international clients. Our reviews commend us on that. We understand that you have lock up your homes, but are sorry that you felt the needed to lock your unit during your stay as our location is VERY safe and that is why we do not have keys for any of our units. We do not even have keys for our own house ... nothing gets locked up here at Mwandi View. Our staff are honest and do not steal. Kind regards Anton and Amelia

The food - they do try, very nice serving, but the outcome is OK.
Hi Daniel Thank you for your review. We do apologise about the food - seems our high standard of food is dropping and we will definitely look into this as we usually get good ratings for our meals. Thank you for your stay. Kind regards Anton and Amelia

No dinner on the day we arrived
Hi Adri-Mari Thank you for your nice review. We are happy when our clients feel at home here. We are sorry that we could not accommodate you for dinner but your booking was a last minute booking. We did send a message for you to urgently let us know if you wanted dinner via booking.com, as we only cater for pre-booked meals. Our confirmation communication and voucher does state that meals do need to be pre-booked at least 3 weeks prior to your arrival - as a last minute booking if you let us know the morning before you arrived we would have made a plan. Kind regards Anton and Amelia

Verified reviewAll lights , inside and outside ,is on one switch . So lights attract insects.Yellow lights for outside seating will be better. Waterhole now empty , so no feature or attraction.
Thank you for your review. We have tested yellow lights but they do not work here so we have reverted back to normal warm white. Yes the waterhole is empty due to the worst drought in 40 years last year and the water that the Zambezi flooded into the area was not enough to full the waterhole. There is so much water in the bush and in the floodplain that animals do not come during May and sometimes even June, even if we had water in our waterhole. The wildlife will stay in the bush where there is water and food before they walk miles to seek either of these. Kind regarfds Anton and Amelia

Verified reviewGood food and clean facilities.
I got a severe head injury and needed to go to the hospital during one of the safari drives hosted by Mwandi. Driver told us he’s been asking them for seatbelts and first aid kits but they ignore… when we returned back they had no concern and when I followed up and asked them if they could create an incident report so I can submit to my insurance the activities we missed they ignored all my messages. It’s a fine place to stay but DO NOT book activities through them. They definitely are looking to maximize their dollar and happy to take shortcuts. Just as an FYI I am young and active with no existing health issues so this was a very preventable injury. It feels like a very slimy operation… I would recommend booking with local hosts instead (this couple is Australian).
Hi Morgan Thank you for your review. We are really sorry about the incident which was very unfortunate. When you arrived back, both Anton and I were very concerted as your group were late in returning and once we heard about what had happened we were trying to help but were told that you did not want any help. We kept asking if you were ok but were not given any chance to help. You did say that your head was very painful and when we asked if you wanted medicated you declined. We have been operating for 10 years with NO previous incidents. Please note that the guide is an independent operator with his own company that we make use of. He does use our vehicle as he does not have a vehicle of his own. It is NOT a requirement by Botswana law to have seatbelts fitted to a safari vehicle and the said vehicle underwent an annual inspection by Department of Tourism and Department of Road, Transport and Safety two weeks prior to your game drive. We contacted the agent that we had booked your river cruise with and were told that they had taken you to the doctor not the hospital in Kasane on your arrival there and that you were advised not to do any further bumpy activities. We sent an email to you on the 08/05 but received no reply. The only communication we had with you after the incident was when you sent an email on the 14/05 asking for an incident report for your insurance when we sent to you the next day. We feel that your comments on a public forum like Booking.com was a bit over board, directing your misfortune at us personally as an "Australian couple" which has nothing to do with how well we run our business. The guide is the one who was driving the vehicle and as far as we see it he was going too fast which was ultimately what caused the incident . Kind regards Anton and Amelia

Verified reviewAs we were travelling with our daughters we stayed in two separate tents that were very comfortable and had everything we needed. The place is set away from towns and villages and surrounded by nature, which you hear at night, particularly hyenas. It has a water hole where hippos como to drink at night, which is a great sight. The night sky was also amazing with very clear views of the Milky Way. We were not cooking so we ate all our meals at the restaurant which were very good, even though we might have gained a kilo or two. However, the highlight of our stay were the safari game drives that we did in Chobe and Savuti, where our guide, Lucky, was able to spot and get very close to multiple animals, including lions and a leopard. Thank you so much!
The only thing missing was a taste of local Botswanan food but I understand that this might not be for everyone.
Hi Carlos, thank you for your lovely review. It was a pleasure having you and your delightful family stay with us and we are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. We are planning to put more local food on our menu for this year so maybe if you come again ask for a traditional meal. Kind regards Anton and Amelia

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay in the family unit! This is a "glamping" experience and we thought it was a good balance of comfort, hospitality and rustic location. Amelia was very helpful and flexible in constructing our itinerary to Chobe and Savuti. Our guide/driver Lucky was amazing, ask for him by name. Meals were tasty and varied. Another highlight is the water trough right outside the dining veranda, which attracts hippos and other animals nightly. Overall, highly recommended!
Wifi didn't quite reach the family tent however it's fast near lobby
Hi Ian and family Thank you for your lovely review. It was so nice having you and your family stay with us and we are happy that you enjoyed your time here at Mwandi View. Verified reviewDinner was very good, staff was pleasant (except the owners), it was generally clean and tidy (except the pool - see under negatives)
The owners lack professional attitude towards the guests. On our first night we were the only ones who had dinner and were seated at the prime spot where you had the best view of the water hole. On our second night we realized that our table had been moved to the back and a different group (3 people) were granted our spot. This group only stayed for one night but anyway. Well, this is not something you expect, being downgraded but we quickly came up with a suggestion: we wanted to sit outside on the terrace like literally 10metres away. There we could have enjoyed the views (and we had seen another guest doing this the night before). The owner very rudely told us that we could not sit outside because of the bugs (there were no bugs). I insisted that this would be our choice and completely our responsibility of course should we not be able to enjoy our dinner - for whatever reason. But the owner again told us like schoolchildren (me 55, my wife 44) to sit down in the restaurant. Then she went into the bar area where we could overhear her telling her husband about it - and both laughing and mocking us. Another thing: the owner let their two dogs go into the pool. When I was inside. I have no more words for this. He told me that their dogs needed cooling off. Yes, he should build them a plunge pool but not let them into the pool where a guest is. Totally unacceptable. The next morning a staff asked him if he could go to the hospital because he was not feeling well. The owner told him to go on his day off instead. All in all it is a nice property that needs another management. Let's hope you can quickly go back to Australia and sell this business fast as you so desperately wish to do. Hospitality business needs other people who understand that their guests are not naughty relatives who come for a visit to their home. A good indicator is also the way people respond to negative reviews. For this property replies are usually snotty.
