How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe river is the selling point.
The room looks better on picture when we find there are maintenance issue irl. The bathroom needs a bit of attention espeically with the hot water pump. The location is too far from everything, but maybe that is the point. There was little to no WiFi anywhere, despite the property advertising strong WiFi. Only found out about the pool area upon check-out. That’s incompetence on the part of the check-in staff, even though they are very friendly.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sincerely sorry to hear that your stay didn’t meet expectations in several areas. We appreciate you flagging the maintenance concerns, particularly with the bathroom and hot water pump—we’re already working with our maintenance team to ensure everything is operating smoothly. We regret that the location felt inconvenient, and we understand how important proximity and clear Wi-Fi information are to our guests. We’ve taken steps to boost our on-site Wi‑Fi signal and are updating our property listing to set more accurate expectations. We also apologize for the lack of clear information regarding the pool area at check‑in. We’ve addressed this with our front‑desk staff to ensure all amenities are communicated upfront moving forward. We would love the chance to make this right for you. Please feel free to reach out to us directly via [email/phone]—we’d be happy to discuss how we can improve your next visit or offer you a future stay at a reduced rate in appreciation of your feedback. Thank you again for helping us get better. Your review helps us grow, and we hope to welcome you again and provide the seamless experience you expected.

Verified reviewRoom was lovely and spacious overlooking the waterfront and had a great shower! Taxis were organised for us and very reliable. Staff were amazing, we had an issue with our trip to the okovango delta and the staff helped us rebook with another company last minute! Would definitely stay again!
The WiFi wasn't great in the bedroom but otherwise no complaints!
Thank you LIndsay for your review, we are so glad you enjoyed your time with us here at the Waterfront and hope to see you again!

It was a bit expensive compared to others we have stayed at of a similar nature.

Photos are misleading. Cold water on night one. Bedding not as clean as need to be and mattresses are worn out. Breakfast not even close to on par.

Verified reviewStayed TWICE- the staff is first and foremost the best part of the stay. Ray and the two ladies who rotate as the front desk managers so helpful and kind and smart! Their in house guide (when he’s not taking clients on safari) is the loveliest gent to sit and chat with about wildlife. The room is Huge and comfy- and all rooms have good views ( except I was there in winter and the riverbed was bone drydry, apparently if Id come a week later the dusty bowl facing the windows would be running w water) so if u really want a water view call them up first. I rated it good value cos most of the stays in Maun skins tourists and safari goers. Water view aside, I loved massive trees shading the property, the active birds at dawn and dusk. Breakfast is hearty and simple precooked stuff , cheese, cold cuts and boiled eggs, INCREDIBLE pear and nut bread Id kill to get recipe of, and good espresso on tap. No meals on site, they order delivery for you, extra for delivery fees but it’s very fair prices not gouging. It’s a bit out of way from town if you don’t drive (like me) so I’d probably stay elsewhere but still happy to return. This property is definitely a step above the average. One of two (of the 7 places I bunked in on safari Namibia and Botswana) with both aircon and heater which was great cos temps hit 5C the two separate nights I stayed.
All great! No dislikes

Verified reviewAway from the centre of town, large comfortable room. Be aware that if you have a preference for a shower, you will need to specifically request it.
Car Park area not fully secured, breakfast very basic and some of the staff seemed to see us as an annoyance rather than guests.

Verified reviewLoved the honesty bar - just take it from the fridge and write it down in the book - charged at the end of our stay. Such a great idea. The breakfast was great - a good variety of things - different breads, cakes, cheeses, cold meats, condiments. The rooms were spacious, well-appointed and very comfortable and clean. We arrived with an extra person, and they were so accommodating in getting her a room. Enjoyed having a taxi driver who was linked with the lodge - trustworthy and very reliable. Outdoor fire place was great!
An option of some gluten free bread would have been good - even if it was frozen and could be taken out piece by piece for breakfast.

Verified reviewOur overnight stay at Maun Waterfront on our way back from holiday was definitely a great choice. The rooms are modern and spacious, as is the bathroom. The rooms have king-size beds with high-quality mattresses that provided a good night’s rest. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, and the gentleman on duty was very friendly. There was a good variety of breakfast options, including different types of freshly baked bread. We would definitely choose this place again when visiting Botswana.
The only thing that was a bit of an issue was the WiFi. I specifically booked the place because it was advertised as having WiFi in the rooms, and I had online work that needed to be done. Once again, the staff member did everything in his power to try and get the WiFi working for me, but unfortunately, it couldn’t be fixed. I eventually accepted that I wouldn’t be able to get any work done.
