Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt was slightly outside of the hotspots, but that was also good because it was completely quiet at night - and all the time really.
Great price for what was essentially a one bedroom apartment. Super accommodating staff - big shout out to Larry the bartender, who really went above and beyond to help us out in any way he could. Plus, tasty cocktails! In general, there was just a wonderful vibe. Small pool was a big plus. Accommodations aren’t fancy but they were clean and functional and met our needs well. Bike rental is a must do! So worth it.

United StatesThe staff and owner were amazing and you could tell they all really cared about guests. Highly recommended. This is located on the quieter side and part of the island which was also nice.

United KingdomWe didn't like about the hotel: 1. The beds - the mattress protector on the master bed was plastic and it made the bedding stick to you and hot. My son was on a sofa bed and it was fine for a child but quite uncomfortable for an adult. 2. The apartment was not cleaned or serviced for the 3 nights we were there. We ran out of toilet paper and had to request some more and the bin for the used toilet paper became overflowing and we had to ask how to get it emptied. 3. Toilet - it did not flush effectively and was 'running on' all the time. 4. There was a little pool with the hotel but it didn't look that clean or inviting. What we didn't like about Caye Caulker (which, clearly, the hotel can't control but may be helpful for you to know): 1. The Split area of Caye Caulker was noisy with litter being thrown in the sea. Fine if you want to party, but distressing if you've come to the island for the proximity of marine life. 2. The sargassum builds up and rots in the sun which gives off a very bad smell. 3. They are feeding marine life such as stingrays and tarpons on the island to attract them to areas for tourists. This isn't very ethical. Also be aware which snorkel or dive boat you go out with as some of them are also feeding the sharks and rays to attract them. This explains the high number of sharks at Shark Alley.
We really liked this place. Yes, there were some issues which we've outlined below, but this didn't stop us enjoying our stay. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the apartment. It contained a full kitchen with fridge, coffee machine (with coffee and filter paper provided), toaster, microwave, filtered water, etc. This allowed us to cook breakfast and lunch in the room and save some money on eating out. The room was very clean on arrival and we had a lovely little balcony with a partial sea view. Caye Caulker is expensive by Central American standards, so this was one of the mor expensive places we stayed on our trip. The whole island also has a problem with sargassum, so do not expect to swim easily from the dock at the front of the hotel. However, we loved lying on the hammocks on the dock with our coffee in the morning reading books. We also loved the little beach bar and evening fire pit. The bar staff were very friendly. There are a number of dogs roaming around the property, so do be aware of this if you do not like dogs. However, they were friendly and did not bother us. The apartment is at the south end of Caye Caulker away from the main bars and restaurants. This is actually a good thing as the area feels more authentic and is quieter. It is only about a 10 minute walk to the centre. Overall, a great stay which we would recommend.

United KingdomNothing! It was slightly further away from The Split and that area of the island, but only a 15-20 min walk
Right on the seafront with hammocks and chair over a decking. Pool was clean and good beach bar area. Staff were lovely and it was great chatting to Larry at the bar! Room was good and had everything we needed, good access to a kitchen. Close to many restaurants and a 10 min walk from an ATM with no withdrawal fees (Atlantic bank). Could rent bicycles too

IrelandYou can't swim in the sea but that's everywhere on caye caulker so not the hostels fault.
Really nice rooms with small self catering kitchen and comfortable beds. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Location is great, it's quiet for sleeping but still close to the main area which is perfect. There is a beachfront bar to relax at and get some nice drinks.

United StatesThe wifi isn't perfect in the cabana areas. Totally fine if you are on vacation but if you're there for remote work, you may need to upgrade to the rooms or have a mobile hotspot. Shampoo and body wash are provided but if you need conditioner, bring that. Oh, and there wasn't a hair dryer but you're on the beach, you really shouldn't want to use one anyway.
Hands down the staff are the most wonderful. Especially Bugs and Larry but all the others, whose names I didn't catch, were so warm and welcoming. We felt like we had been going there our whole lives. The location is great, it's close enough to easily bike or walk to the busier part of town but quiet enough to relax and unwind. The beach bar, lounge chairs, and hammocks are exactly what you need, when you need them. We had a cabana so shared an outdoor kitchen with other guests - that was great for getting to meet other travelers. We especially appreciated the cold bottled water filter. The cabanas are on the smaller side, just plenty for a place to sleep and get cleaned up, so the a/c works very well! There were also separate towels for bathing and beach, that was a nice plus. Our top two take aways: Bugs, the front desk host, is a gem and really makes this place stand out. She was great for helping us get things arranged, rented, and booked. And secondly, we met at least 3 other people who had been coming to Caye Caulker, specifically Barefoot Beach Belize, for years. It says a lot when people return over and over again.

CanadaThe pool is pretty tiny. The fold out futon mattress was very uncomfortable, but luckily the kids didn't care:). The stove was very low power, took sooooo long to boil water for pasta.
Very friendly and helpful office staff. Very quiet location but close to amenities. Free bike use was awesome.

NetherlandsMy partner and I had a very pleasant stay at the Barefoot Beach Hotel. The cabin we stayed in was basic, but had everything you’d need (good A/C). The beachside bar/lounge area is very nice, with dayly camp fires and the best fresh cocktails. All staff are very friendly, but we’d like to give a special shoutout to Noel, whose friendly chats and creative painting sessions made our stay just that much more fun, and to Minelli, who was very helpful and kind. We could recommend the barefoot beach hotel to all travellers looking for a chill and nice beachside place to stay!
