How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewI liked the traditional cottages which were cool and I loved this place for its quietness. I liked the proximity of the river although I didn't swim in it because the water level was too low for access. Every morning no matter how early, good hot coffee was always available. I was very happy to enjoy this modest place in a natural environment.
The first days, I didn't have breakfast because I had to leave too early. On the last day, I was promised to get some breakfast, but there was nothing. I had some laundry done but it was plenty of soap when it returned. In the bathroom, furniture was broken or not present. Every evening, loud music could be heard from the neighbourhood.
Hi Caroline - Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. I'm happy you enjoyed the natural environment at our place, but sorry to hear you had other issues with your stay. If you would like to PM me with more details that would be great. We always try and be responsive to our guests and act on your suggestions. We have a set system for ordering breakfast - everyone orders the night before - what they want and the time - so that they can be off to an early start for a tour. It's very unusual that you wouldn't have gotten it if you ordered so please do email and let me know so I can make sure this doesn't happen again. Thanks again for your review and we will do our best to make sure we fix these issues.

Verified reviewgreat location, you feel like you're in the jungle. there is a great river where you can swim and also a jumping platform with a rope. If you want to go to San Ignacio you can catch a taxi right on the street. If I want to ever back to this region, it would be only to Cohune Palms River Cabanas. The owner Mike is very helpful and the conversation is like with a good friend.
nothing.
Thanks so much for taking the time to write this Pawel. Love that you had such a great time. Please definitely come back and hopefully we will have it even better next time!

The neighbors music was too loud.
Hi Julie - Thank you so much for taking the time to review. So glad you loved the place and had a good experience. Sorry about the music - I think this was right during spring break time! I hope you can come back another time and enjoy the sounds of the jungle!!

Verified reviewWe LOVED the rope swing into the river! We loved seeing the monkeys in the trees. Mike (the owner) was awesome! He accommodated our last minute booking and early departure the next day with no issues or complaints. We enjoyed our conversations with him at the bar.
The shower is cold water.

Verified reviewLocation was good, quite remote, in the beautiful settings, far from hassle of the town. Easy to get to town if you have a car. Staff very pleasant, addressed our concerns promptly, offered extra service, as laundry, arranging trips, etc. Coffee freshly brewed every morning was great.
Cabanas need some upgrades. Nowhere to put the belongings. It would be nice to add a few hooks or open shelves. There were drawers but had a musty smell, we didn’t want to put our clothes in.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay - I just wanted to let you know we appreciate your review and have attended to these issues! Hope you can come back soon!

Verified reviewA lovely spot directly on the river in a beautiful garden. I worried about mosquitoes but there were almost none, even eating breakfast and dinner on the riverside deck, spotting wildlife and relaxing. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds. Good meals.
You do have to taxi in and out of town (20 Bz) but you can arrange pick ups if doing tours. Bathroom was fine but would benefit from a refresh.
Hi Nina - Thanks so much for your review - glad you enjoyed your stay. We have worked on your issue and actually replaced some things in the bathroom! Appreciate the review and hope you can come again.

Verified reviewGreat location near San Ignacio- cheap taxi ride into town. The cabinas are clean and 'rustic'. We weren't able to use the river as it had rained too much, but I'd think it would be great for kids to jump and swim in during teh dry season. Mike and the staff were lovely and were able to offer great local advice. Has a family-feel to the ownership. Loved it here

Verified reviewFood was delicious and cooked to order, the staff accommodated a vegan diet and astutely picked up on likes and dislikes through our stay. The locations on the river was relaxing and much cooler than in town. We woke to the howler monkeys each morning and saw lots of birds and reptiles during our stay. The staff was incredibly accommodating and there for your every need from planning a day trip to pointing out monkeys traveling through the river so we could see them up close.
Cabanas are small, so with three people and luggage it was a tight fit next time I would book the larger cabana that has a small space upstairs. Also there is no seating in the room which I expect is by design as it gets you outside on one of the two very lovely decks overlooking the river but if there was room in the cabana a chair would have been nice for in the evenings or early morning reading. Other cabanas have larger decks than the toucan did and may include a chair and a hammock the toucan deck on the front included a bench to seat two. Bathrooms are tight/small and pretty basic and we lacked any warm water for showering during our stay but we were fine with this as we had the river out our door.
Hi Christine - Thank you so much for taking the time to write this review. Your feedback is appreciated. I definitely agree - the Agouti cabana is much more spacious than the Toucan. We do have the chair out on the verandah of the Toucan for that reason. As for the hot water, we always have hot water for the guests so when I read this I was really surprised. I'm sorry that this wasn't communicated earlier to the staff. It seems that the person who was managing the place for the 4 days the owner was out forgot to reconnect the water heater and hence the issue. This should not be a problem in the future if you decide to return! Thank you again for your feedback, Christine!!

Verified reviewAmazing place right by the river where you can swim. A hidden gem! You can have breakfast & dinner at their cosy restaurant where they serve meal. Family friendly! They have wild birds & monkeys and other rain forest critters that you can observe with the kids! We loved it and we will be back. Some simple stores and a bakery are 7min walk from the place. Awesome location for all the local tours! The staff there were like family! Cozy place! A must stay! My 6yrs old and a 10 year old loved it!

Verified reviewThe location was amazing, such a beautiful spot! The food was very good, and the hammocks were amazing for lazy afternoons!
The food at the restaurant was a bit more pricy then eating in town.
Hi Amber - Thanks for taking the time to write this review. We are so glad you enjoyed the spot and the food! The rate of 12US (incl. coffee and fresh juice) and 16US for dinner is just a bit higher since it is a restaurant on the river and private to our guests - which usually only total max 16 - so unfortunately, we can't adjust that. However - as soon as we saw the review about the bed we replaced the mattress. I really appreciate the feedback as we try to make the place more comfortable for everyone! We hope you can return!

Verified reviewThe property is beautifully situated right on the river - which you can swim in! There is jungle all around and feels like you are in an oasis! Every morning I would have my coffee overlooking the river - I saw river otters and one day a large river turtle just came floating by! We had breakfast there - which was very good! The staff was amazing - helped us book an ATM Cave tour last minute (which was a once in a lifetime experience) and assisted with our travels to Guatemala. We wondered if the no AC in the room would be an issue, but it absolutely wasn't! Between the cool down at night and the fans in the room we slept great!

Verified reviewBig shoutout to Mario for being the welcoming party, entertainments and events secretary, receptionist/treasurer, and all round good company (and cards player). And for ensuring we got the best guide for the ATM Caves tour (Emil, at Bird Trekking Tours). Also to Kevin the chef for being extremely adaptable and accommodating regarding the menu. Loved the huts and lived that I didn’t feel the need for AC.
The interior design of the huts left a lot to be desired (strange steps for no reason that caught me out every time) and there are no facilities to speak of. Nowhere to read, as there are no lights near the bed. In fact you need a torch to get from light controls to the bed. The river looks to be the wrong colour for swimming in, sadly, because that would have been ideal recreation. The location is great if you want a jungle feel and don’t mind hungry bugs or being reliant on taxis to and from San Ignacio. Christiano is your man for taxis.
Thank you for your review, Jennifer - and thanks for taking the time to write this. We are glad you enjoyed your time. We appreciate the heads up on the lighting - we did just reopen last month so will work on the issues you bring up here. The river is darker and muddier after rains and we had a lot this year. It will clear up soon and will be great for swimming - this is just a seasonal issue. Thanks again for taking the time to write!

Verified reviewThis is a very special place. Mike the owner says it has a special energy. For us it was a place of peace and harmony with nature. The sunrise over the river, go for a swim, in the morning mist with the sounds of the jungle - unbelievable! In the afternoon the howler monkeys roam the treetops over the small complex. Everything is laid out very sustainably and the fabulous cook spoiled us with local food and a breakfast of our choice. We'll be back - Mike, big hug! The whole staff always have a smile on their faces. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
