How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewHugo was extraordinary kind and helpful. Very family friendly. Fully equipped kitchen and drinking water available. Very centrally located and still a parking lot in front of the door available. For 10 Belize Dollar Hugo did our laundry within only a few hours.
Extremely good value for money. Regarding the price, I rate this 10, even though it's no luxurous hotel.

Simple facilities, nothing bad to mention.

Verified reviewExcellent location, decent wifi. Clean. Host was helpful and carried my case up the narrow steps. Cold water dispenser and full feature kitchen handy for those who wanted to cook. At £28 a night, excellent value
Sink could have done with a plug in it and a couple of bulbs weren't working, but nothing that made me complain about them. I'm sure they'd have been fixed if I'd asked

Verified reviewGreat location for downtown. Some very nice restaurants within walking distance. Good place to stay for the cost.
Room small and cramped. Layout was really only conducive to sleeping. Difficult to find as no clearly visible sign.

Verified reviewIt was a great location to see San Ignacio from. It's close to everything but still far enough from the busy areas to be quiet. The manager was very helpful.
The rooms next to the kitchen can be very loud in the morning when people are making breakfast so you won't be able to sleep in.

Verified reviewGreat location Free water which was quite cold Great shower Safe in the room Hugo the manager was very pleasant to deal with
Bed was very loud and creaky every time you turned over Furniture and bedding a little dated (but was clean!) Noise travelled so you could heard a fair bit from outside the room

Verified reviewCame in on the shuttle from Belize City and the property was a 5 minute walk from Hodes Place. Very close to the ‘tourist’ area of Burns Ave., restaurants , and food stores. Pictures of the guest house are accurate, water is provided, and there is ample kitchen space for cooking meals. The manager Hugo was very helpful upon my late arrival.
My only issue was the bed. It is VERY firm, so if you have any back issues do not book this particular room. Other than that, I would stay again.

Verified reviewHugo the manager is lovely thank you for having us! The room has everything you need, places for bags, hanging storage, working AC, nice fan too, great bathroom with hot water and hanging places. A huge functional shared kitchen, which is great and has everything!. Location is walking distance to everything in San Ignacio and perfect.
I could feel the springs in the bed and it was slightly uncomfortable, but that was all, it wasn't too bad and we'd happily stay here again for sure.

Verified reviewPerfect location, right on Burns Ave. Belize is a developing country so I wasn't expecting much, and I had stayed in a *different* guest house during a previous trip to San Ignacio that had a shared kitchen where the stove & refrigerator were so disgusting that I wouldn't leave my trash there but the Don Santiago's kitchen was IMMACULATE, as was the rest of the guest house. The manager Hugo was helpful and even had my room ready before check-in time. Anyone giving a negative review for this guest house needs to adjust their expectations: Belize is a developing country and the Don Santiago is BY FAR the cleanest guest house with the most amenities so far that I have stayed in while traveling in Belize. I will stay here again the next time I travel to Belize.
Nothing

Verified reviewWe had a lovely night here, the room was quiet and beds very comfy. There was AC and fans keeping the room at the right temperature and it was clean and smelled really good. It is what you see, a simple place but it had everything to spend the night. Location was the best, same street where cafeterias/restaurants are and our agency Maya Walks to do ATM caves tour. The owner is a lovely man that helped us with all our requests. Don't be put off by the odd entrance!

Verified reviewLocation. Manager, cleaner and maintenance guy were exceptional.
If you are placed in rooms 1,2,or3, you have to endure the ruckus of other families/groups make themselves at home in the kitchen (right outside your room door) to prepare and have a meal.

Verified reviewDon Santiago is an excellent place to rest and recharge in San Ignacio. The beds were comfortable, the common areas were well stocked, and the staff (particularly Hugo) were top notch! I really enjoyed my time there and it's location, just a couple of blocks from the main square area can't be beat.
No complaints.

Verified review2 minute walk from the shuttle terminal arriving from Guatemala. Friendly staff. Kitchen facilities were fine. Provided drinking water. Bedroom and bathroom were clean. My room had air conditioning. Near bus station (to Belize city), an outdoor bustling (weekend?) market. And close to a street with restaurants and bars. Over all, solid value.
For me, Google maps had the guesthouse on a parallel street. But it’s actually closer to the bus/shuttle terminal than google says.
