Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Most of the reviews were for the two bedroom suite up above. This is in the basement so with that comes a low ceiling entrance and a low beam in the living room. If you’re over 6’ you’ll hit your head continuously! Also, you can hear all the foot traffic, movement of furniture and washing machine if in use. Bring ear plugs but if you’re a light sleeper or want peace and quiet, look at the upper rental instead.
Easy self check in/out and owner communicated well. Amazing refurbished basement apartment with wood floors, everything new. A lot of space for two people with living room, kitchen, bathroom, master bedroom and walk-in closet. Full size fridge with organic grocery store nearby so can stock up with snacks and breakfast food. No oven but a one burner electric heat pad, toaster oven and microwave.

One of the carpets in one of the bedroom was extremely slippery and dangerous. If you are not short, the shower/bathtub is not the most comfortable. Very strange request from the owner to put the bed sheets (!) in the bathtub before leaving - never seen before as this should be part of the bare minimum service normally included.
Cozy and clean place with large and reasonably comfortable beds. Cute tearoom, good for making tea but not much else. Plenty of towels and toiletries provided. Located in a lovely and quiet area, a nice walk away from downtown Halifax.

The shower head is quite short so we had to crouch to put head under the shower. We are both 5’10. Not the end of the world though.
Easy to find with parking included. Access was easy and the host was very helpful and responsive. Everything was very clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. Air conditioning was greatly welcomed on the very hot days we spent in Halifax. We only used 1 room upstairs but great value for people needing 2 rooms. The small kitchen area was nice too although we didn’t really need to use it. Nice to have a mini fridge. The bathroom was clean and bright. The location was a short walk to a convenience store and a couple of breakfast places and a Tim Hortons. Also close to a main bus route to talk to down to the Harbour.

The place for sitting, when you come home from a long day visiting the city could be more comfortable.
The suite is located in a cosy old house. The 2 bedrooms are comfortable, you have access to a niche little garden terrace. The area is quiet but also close to the city centre, that we liked very much. For dinner you find a lot of restaurants, from different nations, eg. Greek or Korean within walking distance. The owner is very friendly and helpful.

The tea/coffee making room has a microwave - which is also the only way to heat water. Perhaps a mains kettle would be useful.
Ideal location in a lovely, quiet residential street, the property is ideally situated for the Halifax area. Within walking distance of a few fast food outlets and a lively bar. The property is spotlessly clean and the beds are very comfortable. A great short stay.

We appreciated being able to check in early, since we had come in to Halifax on an overnight flight from Vancouver, and were pretty tired. Li was also very helpful to make up a second bed in the living area when she saw we were not a couple but mother/daughter.

I felt that the water wasn't hot enough for a nice tub soak. There is no kitchen sink, which I guess was mentioned in the description of the place. At first glance the cost advertised per night looked very reasonable, however the various taxes added almost 30% to the final total!
There was no breakfast provided, but I did enjoy the coffee. I only had to walk a couple of blocks to get some breakfast and there is an awesome Organics Food store nearby. Walking distance to pretty much anywhere we wanted to get to in Halifax. Very comfy beds, quiet area, I was able to catch up on some sleep! Host is very friendly, eager to help.

The house was very comfortable and cute, on a very quiet street but right next to a main street with buses, shops, restaurants etc. Everything was squeaky clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!

It's an old house, so not as many outlets as we are used to having.
Cute, comfortable, old house. They have done great job of fixing it up. We loved the tea/coffee room.

I wish it had a more comfortable sitting area to hang out when we got home in the evening but that is a minor issue.
The title is true. This was a great location. We walked everywhere… except to Peggy’s Cove.

Location was great! Walking distance to many shops, also very close to the heart of the city and very convenient. Clean and cozy room, all amenities as described. I very much enjoyed my stay here.
