How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe host was excellent, a lovely lady who was a great help to us. Location gave a great wilderness experience. The cabin had all we needed, the bed was very comfortable. We would definitely consider returning in the future. Stephen

It would be great if the window opened it was quite warm.
Have a window ordered just trying to get someone to install it, hopefully before the fall

Verified reviewThe remote location was a plus for me. However we didn’t bring enough supplies for the overnight stay and had to drive 25kms back to Blue Lake for food. The rustic cabin was small inside but cosy. The bed was comfortable and we enjoyed a good nights sleep. The horn noise from passing trains was a bit sad as it detracted from the remote setting, but not too much of a problem. The host was very friendly and helpful. There was a eclectic mix of old, bespoke and new fittings which was interesting.
It didn’t trouble me that the drinking water was dispensed from a 20litre bottle and tasted fine but the tap water definitely had a bad smell to it. We hadn’t gotten I’ll from the water 24 hours after showering and brushing our teeth with it. We were informed to NOT drink the tap water but not informed why.
It is well water fine for everything but the taste hence why you are provided drinking & cooking water

Verified reviewThe property was beautiful and we loved the dogs.
We had the cabin closest to the train tracks and the biggest issue for us was the noise and the vibrations. The last train passed around 12am and the first one around 6am so we were able to sleep during this time frame.
The train was by here at least 4 times between 12 & 6 am some people like the trains & some do not. Really confused by your cleanliness rating I personaly checked that cabin did I miss something ??

Verified reviewThe cabin was in great shape, clean and comfortable and the kitchen worked well for me to cook dinner.
The nearby trains would blast their horns at the crossing and it was quite loud.

Verified reviewBeautiful place in the forest. The host was super nice and helpful. The cabin got everything you need with a perfect kitchen. Bring bug spray, tons of mosquitos, but with bug spray it's okay.
Train is passing by really close and honking loud. Didn't bother us too much but it's a noteable thing.

Verified reviewNice location in the mountains
No screens, cabin full of mosquitoes along with train noise only slept one hour. No care on how the cabin was slapped together. Expected a toilet for a cabin that rents for $90 a night. The outhouse doesn't have a seat and the door doesn't shut. Neither does the outdoor flush toilet with the sink that didn't work.
I take it you did not read the cabin description. The long drop outhouse does not have a seat as it is built that way so your butt is warm when you sit & who is gonna bother you when your sitting in the outhouse. As for the other outhouse there is a lock on the door, the sink in the other bathroom you probably turned on the hot water side which does not work. The cabin is advertized as rustic. Had you have come to the house & told me you were having problems with mosquitos I would have gladly helped you out with that & I might have upgraded you. Instead you choose to be a coward with with your anonymus review & I chalk you up as just another keyboard warrior stay in a town next time, fyi mosquitos are in the bush your cabin was in the middle of the bush.

The high sulphur levels in your water couldn’t even shower no privacy and no locks on doors as a secondary caution measure to keep customers safe

Verified reviewLocation, it truly is a wilderness retreat. The host Micky and her super friendly dog are the highlights of our stay.
Having a central water filtration system with water softner would be nice as they are using well water. Also, can add some swings or kids play area so they small kids can spend their times. The dogs were very playful so my son had nice time playing with it, especially Zeek!

Others have pointed it out: the train was really loud but this didn't disturb me or impact my overall experience.

Verified reviewThe cabin was cute, comfortable and clean. A great deal of cooking appliances were provided. The satellite tv worked. As there were no lights - the stars were magnificent.
It wa a 50m walk to the toilet/shower in pitch black - no lights or path - very scary - helped with the torch from an iphone. The taps in our room were not working. Advertised as a "wilderness retreat" but only about 400m from the highway and close to a trainline with horns blasting at least every hour during the night.
