    Acceptable but not impressive.

Our main concern was the lack of communication from the property regarding the fact that all amenities (including the pool) were closed during our stay, and that our booking was "room only." We really would have liked to have been notified of this in advance, as having the pool option (in particular) was one of the reasons we chose the property. Closing the pool (and other amenities) over the holiday period in December is reasonable, but should have been communicated to us prior to our arrival. The room (Glasgow House) was fine enough, but was more on par with a budget hotel room (think Comfort Inn) in terms of furnishings, finishes, and cleanliness. The furnishings were a bit dated, there was staining in the bathtub and on the ceiling/walls in the bathroom (particularly in the tub area). Some of the paint in the corners of the room was peeling. We were satisfied enough (and did not complain) because of the off-season rate (about $175 per night taxes included), but would not have wanted to pay more given what was offered.

The location was easy to find. The staff we met (James) was absolutely lovely - we had a late-ish check-in and he phoned our room before he left for the evening to make sure that we got in okay. That was much appreciated. The beds were comfortable enough. We appreciated that the room did not have carpet (laminate floor).

Hot tub was closed but looked functional? The sauna door has two big openings at the top and bottom, it doesn't get very hot. The pool other wise was clean, towels available. Rooms and bathroom are dated. Comfy beds though.

Location and easy check in were great. Comfy beds. Clean. Staff and food in restaurant were fabulous . The grounds were gorgeous.

    Lovely Property But...

The room we had is very outdated. Furniture and curtains are not worn still appear good although old. They did renovate the shower/bathtub. Nothing else. The TV is so small that you have to strain to watch it. However, the worst part was under the beds. My small dog went under the bed and came out black. I looked with my flashlight on my phone and was disgusted to see the hair/lint and dirt. They did sent someone promptly to clean but it was not done properly. So I pushed the beds (on rollers) and got down on my hands and knees and washed the floor. Not only under the bed but all the floor was black. Also, the night table had items in it from previous guests as well as an old bandaid stuck to the side of it. While the hotel looks nice from the outside be aware that some buildings are better kept that others so ask how recent they are. Some of the buildings are in need of a little love and care inside. As a property manager myself of short term rentals I suspect that no one is inspecting after the housekeepers and no deep cleans have been done during the season. Also when towels get yellow, we replace them. We had a set of very apparent yellow towels along white ones.

Lovely location, resort with indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna. Staff super friendly. The main lobby/restaurant seems new and would recommend staying in that building. The restaurant staff super nice and food is good. Complaints are handled politely and promptly.

Upon entering our room it smelled musty and the smell did not go away. They would be better to rip out the carpets and lay a hard service flooring that can be cleaned properly. The tv was not plugged in (I had to move the armoire away from the wall to investigate) The bedside lights did not work (the cord was broken and not attached) and the bed sank into the middle. Perhaps when the rooms are cleaned in-between bookings they should do a check of all these things). We loved the access and location of our room but it is obviously an older building and needs work and a good scraping of paint on the outside and a redo of the paint. The POS terminals in the restaurant had a price update but the menus didn't. (That is a definite no no). When we went to the lakeside restaurant we were abruptly stopped at the door before I could even get it opened and ask if we were from the resort, did we have reservations and that they had no room for us. It was completely empty inside and on the patio and the waitress at the main house said we should be okay without a reservation on that day. There were a few buses there that day but it could have been handled differently.

The resort has beautiful grounds and a great location. I liked the front desk person, he was very friendly, personable and very efficient. He actually called our room to make sure we got in okay. The servers did their best despite the fact that they were extremely understaffed on such a busy week. We actually felt bad for them.

Not sound proof. It is a new facility and you can hear the people in the room above and beside you. We were awaken to screaming children at 5:30am. It was as if they were in our room.

We stayed in the lodge. Our room was really nice. Clean, new, comfortable bed, coffee maker and fridge. The staff are welcoming and helpful.

    Rooms need a refresh.

The room I was given in the Culloden building needs refreshed. It was looking tired and showing signs that maintenance wasn't being done. Shower head was coming away from the wall leaving a hole, curtains were missing and the wall full of holes where the pole used to be - should have been filled in. Main room light had been removed, but part of fitting remained, so the initial impression of the room was very dark. Not helped by dated furniture. The first impression of the room really wasn't great - and these are all minor things that should have been easily spotted and fixed. It's a shame because the common areas, and exteriors of the buildings looked freshly painted and well looked after. Felt cheeky they charged extra for parking when the property clearly had loads of space, and is so remote I struggle to imagine many visitors arriving without a car. Combined with the issues in the room I'd probably choose somewhere else to stay if I was back in the area.

It's a nice location for kicking off a road trip around the Cabot Trail. Room was comfortable and clean, but needed some TLC. Location was good for wandering around the town. Enjoyed being able to walk down to the waters edge. Bar staff were friendly - common areas looked well kept.

Paying a parking fee at a facility in a rural area with lots of parking space - no mention of this fee when we booked. Would prefer they just charge more for the room vs. adding extra fees for basics.
