How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewHelena, our host, is very accommodating and generous by letting us check in earlier than the usual time and even waived the fee for that. She also trusted us and waived the security deposit fee, aslong as you treat the property like your home! Overall a great experience, as the place is very homey, comfortable, accessible to all, and clean! Thank you Helena for letting us stay at your place!

The location is great – close to shops, restaurants, and public transport, which made it easy to get around. The host was very responsive and helpful, always quick to answer my questions. Verified reviewThis place had really cozy atmosphere! It was two stories house. Really nice owner who kept making sure we had everything and was asking if we like it there - we even got free upgrade! (For a bigger room) which was delightful of her! We truly appreciated fully equipped kitchen with stove. And comfortable carpets were also nice detail that we really liked. There were other guest too, but we rarely met them so this whole place felt like ours. Overall it felt like really bang for our buck and we would gladly book this place in future again!

No mention on booking about a $100 cash deposit for room key. Fortunately waived as i arrive late at nite and would not have $100 cash with me
This deposit is for key, 🔑, booking will not collect this deposit for host especially for home stay as we will refund when you return your key and we don’t have credit card machine even can not hold like booking for this reason. Kindly understand this action , as if key 🔑 loss it’s big trouble for us but we can not get claim . Verified reviewThe location was decent but the facility itself was a cold dark basement, that had nothing to do with the pictures advertising this place. The owner after I paid told me that she upgraded me and my son who came with me to a private suite, it was a very dark basement that wasn’t even worth half of the price I paid.
Depressing, the owner is the most frugal person I have dealt with: although the bedding seemed clean, the mattresses were extremely uncomfortable, the bed sheets and blankets were very old and probably washed a thousand times, there was no hair dryer, no dishwasher and and the hand dishwashing liquid was watered down by at least ten times ( unbelievable) . The furniture in the room looked as if it was taken from a dumpster, I never had so little value for the money I paid, I was basically scammed. The owner that I haven’t met personally sent several emails asking for a good review and had the arrogance to mention that she knows that her facilities aren’t perfect but still wanted a good review to continue to scam people. I didn’t take photos because I came to Calgary to keep only good souvenirs, there was nothing good about the place we rented to stay.
Please watch your language, I am shocked by your incredible review without any evidence. You call the people you have never met is scammer? Or frugal? I can’t believe that, we have couple messages via booking app, you have never mentioned anything like here. Actually the truth is you have many times to let me know you don’t like my kindness offer , I m happy to let you stay in your original room on different floors for you and your son!! you didn’t deserve my free upgrade offer for this large pretty suit with a large garden which valued over $300 per night and my mostly royalty guest loves it. As my routine I always like to confirm with my guests at the beginning and middle staying to know their feedback, at that moment you always say yes instead of the face you showing now, you have 2 faces in your life? I’m doing a favour to let you and your son to stay the entire suite with large window from bottom to ceiling in living room and dining room which are bright as you can read my previous guest left the best review for me. I have no idea why you mention that my furniture is old and place is dark I think this is a from your bottom heart you’re not nice person I provided a kindly offer to you for a good way but you ruin my heart you call me a scammer ? maybe you a scammer or you were scammed all the time by good people because you always think the good people as a dark person . you know what you said is very unfair , this is insulting to call someone scammer without any legal documentation. this is my first time talk to my guest like this way, I believe you are the last person make me mad like this . They are all from Ashley , Urban Barn high quality furniture stores, probably you never know this kind of furniture or you don’t like this kind of way . eventually I have to remind you during your staying in Calgary as the weather was raining and the storm all the time the sky is dark but not my suite is dark . I have 5 large window in this suite only the dark part is a bathroom and the kitchen so I have no idea why you lie and left this bad review for me this is not nice if I know you are this type of person, I will not let you stay in my home . good luck! Verified reviewWe loved our stay in the Superior King Room with a private bathroom. The room and bathroom were big and both were very clean and tidy. The host was very quick to respond and easy to communicate with. Overall I would recommend staying here for a great value and a very comfortable experience!
The description of this room stated that there was a washing machine provided with the Superior King Room but we learned when we stayed at the property that washing clothes was only provided for week-long stays.
