Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaThe room was extremely small for 4 persons. The bathrooms didn’t seem to be cleaned really well and there was no shower mat anywhere.
Breakfast and dinner are included which was really nice. Very central also, easy to visit Victoria from this place.

CanadaBreakfast was not high quality. Bread was only white and felt stale to me with only low quality whiteners and no actual milk for the entire stay. The day I checked out I saw milk put with the tea/coffee station. Not sure if it was put after my feedback or something else. Also, anyone who ends up being on the top bunker please note there are no table/chairs in the room so when you come in room you're either on the bed or outside. I did not have any space to even look at my stuff or keep it somewhere while working on it. Lastly, solo travelers need to be mindful of which streets they take as some parts of the area see many people without homes moving and sleeping and drug issues.
The facility was secured and cleanliness was ensured. Dinners were good. The bedding was nice. Each bed has its own fan and light with a wooden plank to organize your stuff along with a dedicated cupboard and shelf which can be locked by borrowing the lock from the reception for a deposit. That along with towel and other things could also be taken for a deposit which will be returned. That was a really nice feature . East access to transportation as well as walkable

UkraineThe premises need renovation, there are a lot of homeless people and drug addicts around, which spoils the overall impression of the hostel's location.
Good price, good breakfast and dinner with one free drink. Very nice staff. Bed with a good mattress and clean linen.

United StatesWe paid 3x more than another guest because we didn’t book very far in advance. That’s just the way it is in Victoria, but I wouldn’t pay that much again. I’d probably stay a little further away from the city center. There was one guest who was fairly obnoxious and she sort of sucked the oxygen out of whatever room she was in. I feel like the staff should have been empowered to tell her to cool it.
Location was very good for walking, but be aware there are quite a few unhoused folk that linger in the area. I liked the communal spirit and the fact there were all ages there, not just college aged backpackers. Even though our private room was very spare, we slept extremely well. There was never a problem getting a bathroom. The dinner was a nice addition.

Canada3rd flr room with no elevator. I'm a senior and unable to carry luggage up three floors. Shared bathroom had mildew and black mold. Hair left in my bed...slept on top instead of in bed! Breakfast wasn't opened on time, and minimum - no milk/cream for coffee or cereal. Toasters didn't work. Unsecured and small.parking lot behind the hostel.
Friendly staff, lots of info regarding Victoria, happy hour.

MexicoThe prices for hostels in Canada are unrealistic. Even with the extras It doesn´t makes sense to pay that much for a bunk.
Breakfast was unconventional, nevertheless I was satisfied and there was plenty. The free drink at the bar was a nice touch. There could be more improvements with the room ventilation.

New ZealandFor two people we only had one set of keys and a key is needed for everything. Happy for the security of double locks though as there were just so many homeless on Pandora street.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The washroom outside our room was almost like having an onsuite; very handy and good shower. It was walking distance to the city charms.

CanadaI had a room w a sink, and there was a significant smell coming from under the sink. No visible source. No benefit to having the sink given how plentiful the washrooms are - so would recommend getting a room without a sink.
Staff helpful, friendly; great location; bathrooms plentiful and clean
