How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe breakfast was fine. Fruit and yogurt. Access to washer and dryer was a great option. Location was walkable to all that we wanted to see. Appreciate the 3 ways to enter the building rather than lugging everything thru front lobby.
Coffee was weak but it was hot.

Verified reviewExcellent staff and location. Fernie is small so nothing is too far away. This lodge was central in town. Really great for travelling with a family with young children and multiple families. Lots of different amenities to make it feel homely. Access to things like communal kitchen, pool and games, movie room and separate sauna/hot tub area. Really attentive hotel for biking with a bike storage room and clean/tune area. Rooms were clean and comfy. Good size with a fridge and microwave and no carpet in the room which was great. Lots and lots of hooks makes it great for hanging everything up from all the activities to do in town! They were fully booked but never felt busy. Would 100% stay again.
Could be cleaner in the common areas. Communal BBQ area has only one picnic table and could use a bit more outdoor seating. The hotel itself was a bit of a maze at first and a bit disjointed, but it's not a massive hotel so it wasn't a big deal. Once you figured out where everywhere, was it was great! Breakfast provided is minimal: muffin fruit and yogurt, coffee/milks so not extensive (but we knew this before hand) but still suitable for us. These were all really minor things that didn't impact our stay, but good to know before hand!
Thank you for your review Kym! We're glad you and your family enjoyed your stay and we hope to have you again soon!

Verified reviewThe location is right off of the Main Street passing through Fernie. The rooms are clean and housekeeping was very friendly.
It is a dated hotel and for the facility expensive. What they call a complimentary breakfast is coffee in a carafe, apples, oranges and pre bought muffins. So I would not consider that a benefit to offset the room cost.

Verified reviewI liked the woman who worked at the front she was helpful and relaxed. I liked that there was a pool and hot tub. I liked that the pool area had some fun toys for kids of all ages!
The breakfast is not really a breakfast. I think there should not just be coffee but also juice and water. Also some other breakfast options might be nice.

Verified reviewThe girl at front desk when we checked in was very pleasant. However Caterina the girl at front desk the morning of check out was extremely rude!!! She must have phoned the room 6 times along with my cell phone after I spoke with her 20 months ago past check out time of 11 am and continued to harrass and speak very rudely! The a/ c did not work on one of the two rooms I booked. When o asked for some form of compensation she promptly replied “ NO you did not let me know earlier’ I was planning on returning to this property on our way home from Calgary in a week but due to staff and their rudeness along with broken A/C we will never be back! Horrible service and property!

Verified reviewThe entrance into the building was great, the staff person was awesome.
I booked a "superior" room and the furniture was really sub par. We had to have the bottom drawer of the dresser taped so that we would not trip over it. I've stayed at Red Tree numerous times in the past, however NEVER spent $253, like I did this time. Far too costly for a sub par stay.

Verified reviewReally friendly staff, it was a little quiet so we got a free upgrade. great location which made the price fair.
Even with the upgrade the bathroom was a little worn out. There was a bit of damp on the wall and the silicone was coming away.
Thank you so much for your lovely review. We're really happy to hear you felt welcomed by our team and that the free upgrade added a nice touch to your stay. It’s also great to know our location worked well for you. We’re sorry to hear the bathroom didn’t quite meet expectations. After a very busy winter season, we're now working through a full round of maintenance and freshening up rooms, so your feedback is truly helpful and appreciated. We’d love to welcome you back in the future and hope your next visit is even more comfortable. Warmest regards, Lucy Front Desk Agent
