How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe cabin, though rustic looking on the outside, was extremely comfortable. Having a central facility for kitchen prep and a private bathroom (although in a central, separate building), didn’t immediately appeal to me, but it was no problem at all! Everything was well stocked and easily accessible. Being able to order a linen package (I was flying from Vancouver and didn’t pack my own towels/bedding) was great and they perfect. I woke early and captured a sunrise on the beach, just a short walk from the cabin, and it was glorious! Also glorious: the breakfast beautifully prepared by the host, Ton. I highly recommend adding this on for anyone staying here. So delicious! It was a perfect stay!

Verified reviewVery spacious cabin. Cooking facilities on hand . Proximity to the ocean . Individualised toilets/showers
Unfortunately the restaurant was closed (except for breakfast)..limited food options in then locality...so we had to drive to get dinner. Would have been helpful if Web site had told us the restaurant was closed . Although beach was nice, not possible to swim there.
Hi Dave, Thank you for the review! Very appreciated . Just to make clear, not for you but for future guests that perhaps read the review. The Dancing Moose Cafe has never served suppers. In its 13 years of existence has always been a breakfast / lunch cafe. We are located in rural Cape Breton and (almost) everything requires "making miles" We are used to the longer distances but we know that is not obvious for everybody. Future guests...be prepared when you book a trip to beautiful Cape Breton! But for clarity there is a restaurant 12k south, a pizzeria 16k south a restaurant 14 k north and a restaurant 25 k north. Our beach is a beautiful rock beach as mentioned in the description. There are guests that go there for a swim but it is harder to get in and out of the water. Does not work for everybody :) Take care, Ton

Verified reviewI liked how each cabin had a dedicated bathroom, small mini fridge, and picnic table. The cabin was clean and had a mosquito net if we wanted to leave the sliding door open. Two nice chairs and a drying rack were conveniently placed on the deck of the cabin. It was close to a beautiful rock beach and the cafe had the best yogurt and granola cups and coffee for the morning!
Nothing :)

Verified reviewThe cabins were well set up and the beds comfortable. We appreciated that fans were available as the night was warm. We had a great view of the ocean and the stars. Breakfast was amazing at the Dancing Moose
Overall it was great. The bathrooms are basic, but for a glamping type experience much better than expected

Verified reviewThe location.
Accommodation was probably not what we expected due to booking.com review. We wouldn’t do it again, however it was a different experience. 4 Adults sharing the premises was probably not ideal.
Good morning Donna, Thank you for the review, always appreciated. Only thing I am a bit puzzled about is that you had very different expectations, based on just reviews? I would imagine you would read the description and look at the pictures. I think it is obvious it is one space, no separate bedrooms that all guests in your party share. Two questions that I always ask (but never get an answer for it seems) What did you expect more or better under Facilities? And with a very high score for cleanliness, "a 5 out of 10" stands out and I wonder what we missed or could have cleaned better. Serious question, when doing a routine for years, we might get "blind" for some things and it is always good to get feedback on that. Best to all of you and very welcome to return but I think The Sleeping Moose Cottage (on the same property) would be a better choice! Ton

Verified reviewThe host provides delicious breakfast with great care and charges a very reasonable price. I appreciate the simplicity and the view from the breakfast room, which gives our family a warm, homely feeling. We all love the Nordic style, and the host went out of his way to respond to my requests and questions promptly. I am truly grateful and very happy with our stay! The location of the zzzzzMoose is excellent. I was also extremely pleased to have such a nice, neat, and clean place to spend the nights in an all-wood cabin. The window on the second floor offers a perfect view of the sea, making it an ideal spot for a family stay. We spent two nights in the cabin, and I honestly wish we could have stayed longer.
The only minor issue was the sound of the bed frames on the second floor. They squeaked whenever we moved, which was a bit bothersome. However, it wasn’t a significant problem because we were so tired that none of us were overly affected by the noise. That said, I am quite sensitive to sounds, so I would have preferred it to be quieter. Still, all the wonderful aspects of the charming little wooden cabin more than made up for the squeaky bed frames.

Verified reviewThe cottage was very clean and cozy. It was quiet and lovely. The bed was very comfortable and we could use the sheets and bedding for a very low price which saved us the hassle of getting ours out. Ton, the owner was very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.
If I was to nitpick, the bathroom isn't didn't in the cottage but was so close that it may well have been. There aren't any restaurants near by and they do close very early. There is a little kitchen you can use and each cabin is given their own mini fridge so you can make you own food there.

Verified reviewThe ambience was good. The property is aesthetically awesome.
The facilities could have been better. I felt there is too much space for sleep and nothing else. There is enough bed for 6 persons (2 double beds and 2 single beds) but the bathroom is not attached. Bathroom is located outside.

Verified reviewOn the Cabot trail. Close to water. Friendly owner.
Please note that you have to get a separate linen package or bring your on sleeping bag. I misunderstood that the booking includes breakfast. It does not. The washroom, though dedicated to the room, is outside. There is no provision for tea or coffee in the room, though you can borrow a kettle. The nearest restaurant is about 12 km away and it closes at 7:00. Best to have your supper before you head to this place.
