Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

CanadaAt the entrance of the building there is no sign indicating where to go; there is no reception. Actually, one has to go through the back door of the building to the right where there is a trattoria, and ask for the keys there. There could be a sign. I did not receive any mail via booking about this. Something else: there is not light one could use to read at night in bed.
Well equipped apartment. Nice and friendly host.

AustraliaContacting and comminicating with manager was difficult, or rather impossible. I contacted manager in writing via booking.com and tried calling few times, to try checking in (one hour) earlier the day before and on the same day but no response was received - even though I was sick/unwell. I turned up to the building and some resident let me in. Apparently the restaurant staff under the building at back end, know manager well and assisted greatly. Otherwise I'd still be stuck on the street! In summary, someone should be responding to enquiries as soon as possible (similar to the way it operates in hotels and other apartments).
The location was great, the room was great. Thank you.

United KingdomAs above. The entry system really needs sorting: access is needed to the EXTERIOR door before guests can get to the lift and key box. Hint to owner; 1 largish interesting picture eg from the local area can set the scene well. I had 2 problems 1) because I am 5' 3" I was only able to access the very bottom of the fridge. 2) I have to be careful not to fall, normally with a shower this is OK. The deep, shiny sitz bath presented several difficulties because the sides were high and tucked under the basin but more importantly because there was nothing to hold on to when I was covered in water and therefore more likely to slip.
Self catering. The flat was basic, dark, not sufficient facilities for 2 people (china missing). A bit depressing because there was a metal grill plus net curtains with hooks missing. There was peeling paint/ paper in the bathroom. Towels were worn.... I chose the apartment because of its location, near the station, the old town, in a pleasant area with very good access to transport.

SwitzerlandThere are blinds on two windows, but the 3rd window (kitchen) has no blinds, so there is light all the night. The windows are old and wooden, so the noise from the street comes in, whether you close them or not. The bed creaks a lot, every time you move - you might wake-up yourself or your partner. Saturday evening (probably Friday as well) is the time when people go out in the evening and they are screaming, driving very noisy cars under the window, honking... they stopped roughly around 2 o'clock in the morning. We paid 256 CHF for two nights, it's not so expensive for Basel, but we couldn't sleep much on Saturday to Sunday night. The paint on the walls in the bathroom is falling (peeling) off.
15 minutes walk from the train station, clean, good wi-fi, with coffee-machine and capsules. The Owner of the appartment also owns the pizzeria Artigiano on the ground floor and grants you 20% discount. We have used it. The pizzas and beers were great.

United Kingdom• You can’t enter the building to collect the keys from the lock box unless someone else happens to enter the building and you can tailgate. • Owner never answered my phone calls when I was unable to get inside the property to collect keys • Street is quite dodgy - clearly a brothel just next door and lots of noise at night • Windows are single-glazed so block very little noise out. We were woken up every night several times • No air conditioning and windows don’t open wide so still very hot even if windows are left open until you sleep (can’t leave them open due to noise outside) • Towels smelt of cigarette smoke and were very old and hard • Hairdryer didn’t work • TV was brand new but hadn’t been set up (tuned or connected to wifi) • Only one toilet roll provided for stay • No glasses provided except wine glasses in the apartment, also no scissors, kitchen facilities generally poor and you’d struggle to cook in there

ItalyThe apartment didn't look at all like the pictures. The kitchen stove and oven are outdated and broken. The electrical outlets where poorly located. The shower was only a half shower. When we arrived the towels were wet! There weren't enough glasses and dishes, not even a set of wine glasses or tea cups.

last minute change of property that was not told to me until after I landed. No choice or chance to do anything due to toilet issue. Alternate property was steaming hot, far away and not to the level of what the original property was. I didn’t have proper instructions on how to access the property or who to meet. it was all difficult and created a stressful unpleasant experience.

Bed was cheap and very uncomfortable 😣 Very old apartment with some new additions. Only two wine glasses and two very small espresso cups available. An apartment missing a lot of items.
