Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNothing really.
The Derby Hotel is literally just steps away from Platform 3 at the Grindelwald train station. Sparkling clean and quiet room with a lovely balcony and mountain views! The reception team was welcoming, courteous and very helpful. They will safely store your luggage on arrival before check-in hours and likewise upon check-out if you are touring Grindelwald during the day. The hotel also has a nice restaurant serving a tasty Swiss fondue. Breakfast offers a good spread of local dishes and fresh products. Considering the hotel rates of comparable hotels in Grindelwald, the Derby Hotel is very good value.

Hong KongThe WiFi connection was slow and unstable. Under the unusually high temperature, the room was a bit warm at night in spite of a fan.
The location is excellent, close to supermarkets and train station. It’s well-maintained, clean and tidy. It’s spacious, especially the bathroom. The food is good.

SwitzerlandThe room had coffee capsules. I would recommend changing it to a more tasty and environmentally friendly coffee option.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The view from the room balcony was fantastic, and there were 2 communal terraces on each side of the hotel with amazing views. The location is conveniently next to the station yet still quiet. We had a great time and hope to come back.

United Statesthe staff was wonderful from the checking in process. I am very glad we ended up on the top floor (cant remember if it was 4 or 5) but that floor has a common space, like a living room, lounge indoor seating as well as a balcony with a bar like setting. It felt great to get off the elevator into this spacious room and hang if we didnt want to go to the room yet. Simply lovely. Did not hear one train despite being almost at the train station. Gorgeous cottage-like dining room. Very spacious. Great selections for breakfast. Fantastic mountain view.

CanadaGrindelwald Train Station is a magnet for teams of pick pockets as we experienced a purse opening at 5pm upon exiting train car/arrival day 1 at Grindelwald station but nothing taken luckily .2 days later I observed and reported a team of 4 actively targeting tourists again at 5 pm entry/exit to train cars. The hotels proximity to the sketchy Train station is why I cite the concern however this occurs up and down busy lines like Grindelwald/Zermatt and many EU Cities. The hotel is very safe/secure within inner sanctom but we felt "targeted" once you step into train station area.We have spent a year travelling central Europe over past 5 years and this was our first upsetting encounter with active pick pockets twice in 4 days. Keep valuables under hasp locked zippers. Hotel is carpeted which we prefer flooring in room. There are no deal breakers with Hotel Derby Swiss, just book south side facing.
Hotel backs on to Grindelwald train Station so very convenient at 1 min transfer however if you book North side your facing the train station which can be very busy/public till 10pm especially on lower floors. Staff/Ricardo are excellent and front desk offered an upgrade to south mountain facing with terrace which was a game changer with stunning mountain vistas so we were thrilled, upgrade fee was a no brainer.Room switch to 104 was very much appreciated Ricardo as we were staying 4 nights and made our stay special.Swiss motif wood chalet feel with comfy beds/restaurant and bar which offered a welcome drink/snack.Hotel is good value for a Grindelwald stay excellent location. Train Staion office sells Junfrau pass and in combination with swiss 1/2 fare card is a great option for 4 day stay.Day 4-8 use Berner Oberland Pass. All other lifts are very convenient to access base stations, literally minutes to Eiger/Mannlichen/Jungfrau Top/Phinstegg etc.Management is friendly and welcoming.Breakfast is adequate but could use more variety ie cheeses-it is Switzerland!, yogurts and bakery items. We frequent hotels in EU and Level 3 traveller's for years the Derby Swiss was a good choice for Grindewald 4 night stay for south facing rooms.Book with confidence.
