Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomGood breakfast but very little choice if you were gluten/dairy free. Bathroom was a little small.
Excellent location a few minutes walk out of the village and close to the lift station. Friendly staff and amazing view from our room. Comfortable beds and amazing shower.

AustraliaThe rooms face the street and due to the cable car it can get noisey very early so no sleeping in. The breakfast at times was not well stocked around 9am so there wasn’t much choice. I would expect being so expensive to stay management should make sure that there is more than a 3 in 1 soap on the shower to use.
The property was really well located across the road from the cable car. You can literally hike to the mountain at the start of the hike across the road near the carpark. The manager and waiter over the weekend were great and always made sure they have great service. If you’re wanting a short stay it’s perfect specifically to see the lake. The restaurant also serves very good food of an evening.

SwitzerlandWe had a number of surprises, primarily by the receptionist/staff who did not inform us about a number of things. We were not informed that for the restaurant we had to have a booking, albeit being guests upstairs. They also have a kitchen break between 2pm and 6pm and staff were not aware if kitchen is open in any other places in town. We booked a hot pot, but they 'forgot' about our booking and had to hurry up others to free up slot for us. From the room perspective, we were missing tea/coffee in the room, which would have been nice to have. Additional towels for the hot pot, considering rainy weather, would also have been welcomed.
We came for a visit with my siblings and stayed 2 nights. The room was spacious and sufficient for 3 people. The location of the hotel was spot on for us, it offers a free parking and is just below the hiking trail to Oeschinsee (or gondola up). It is short walking distance from the heart of the nice town with a few restaurants and shops. The additional free hot pot, gym and sauna were nice add-ons. The breakfast offer was plenty and tasty.

AustraliaProperty is undergoing renovation and has scaffolding up. Didn’t really impact us though.
Very handy location next to the cable car. Really good breakfast included. Nicely renovated rooms and bathrooms. We were given the incorrect room for our family of 4 but this was promptly sorted with no fuss.

AustraliaConstruction is currently occuring at the hotel so during the days it can be noisy. Views from my room were obstructed by construction. I imagine that this would be a wonderful place once the renovations are completed!
Modern, clean, and comfortable room. Everything felt luxurious and was a nice place to come back to rest after hiking at Lake Oeschinensee - which was so easy to get to as the hotel was situated right outside the cable car! Being able to have views of the surrounding mountains from the shower was a delightful bonus.

SwitzerlandAfter our booking was confirmed, I received an email that there are construction works in the hotel from 7:30-18:00, Mon-Fri. We came late on Sunday and stayed 3 nights. I immediately called the hotel to ask if it is really noisy at 7:30 as I planned to have a good sleep during my vacation. They assured me that noise starts only at 9:00, but they can make a full refund if I need so. 9:00 was ok for us so we decided to stay at this hotel. However, Monday at 7:45, nice noisy drilling above our window woke us up, as every day after it. At the moment of arrival, bad sheets had long black hairs here and there as well as big old yellow stain on one ov the covers. Bathroom trash was not changed and had the same black hair with cigarettes and other trash. I alerted hotel receptionins before leaving to hike on Sunday evening. When we came back, we found a new half-set of bad sheets outside of the room with complimentary drinks. Hotel's receptionst explained that only the cleaning person has keys, so they will change the trash after. The next day after we came back from hiking the room was arranged but the cleaning person put us back a cover with a big old stain as well as pillows with black hair (I placed all those items on the floor, expecting that they would be replaced). A few towels were dirty as well so I placed them on the floor as well, however they were folded and placed back to be used. So we decided not to do any more room service cleaning during the stay and cleaned ourselves.
Very good location if you plan a hiking vacation in the region. Breakfast is more than enough with different options of food and drinks. Rooms are well-maintained.

United KingdomUnfortunately the hotel was having some building works done whilst we were there, and if we had known this we probably wouldn't have chosen it, as it meant noise early in the mornings from the builders and them taking over the restaurant at breakfast time! Also it was covered in scaffolding and the carpark was full of building supplies. A discount should have been given for this time period of works.
Hotel was fantastic, such a perfect location, room was very comfortable and clean. No safe, but we could lock the cabinet. Breakfast was very nice with views down the valley. Hotel arranged discount vouchers for cable car too. Restaurant was brilliant with a great choice of traditional dishes

United KingdomThere was building works, however, we were notified about this prior to our stay. They did start work earlier than expected so we were woken up by this. On the second night they closed the kitchen early with no indication of this, so when we came down for dinner we did not have this option, we have a drink and got some crisps, which the lovely staff member did give to us free of charge due to the early kitchen closure.
Lovely property, perfect location for what we wanted to do.

AustraliaGreat location next to the gondola (however it was closed when we were there end on March). We hiked up to the lake and the hike was basically at our doorstep which was amazing. The rooms were renovated nicely, a tiny bit small but they were comfortable and all we needed. The staff were lovely and it was great to have the sauna, jacuzzi and restaurant all on site. Would definitely visit again, maybe in autumn next time!

Switzerlandpublic transport is every 2 hours from the hotel to the station, we did not bring a car. Hotel was understaffed, and the hours for dinner are a joke. Closed at 8.30 pm in the High Season at (over 300CHF for a small room in a 3*hotel) was disappointing. The hotel owner reacted in a rude manner when we asked why. First-Timers to Kandersteg should know that the village is in the shade most of the day, yet you see the sun from the distance which I found a bit depressing.
The Hotel is really cozy with a lot of wood that makes you feel at home immediately. The location is next to the Oeschinensee station which is great for those who ski. The room is clean, with a modern bathroom. Breakfast was good, with fresh bread, cheeses, charcuterie and eggs. We also liked dinner, when it was actually possible to eat there. Kndersteg is great for Cross-country skiing, especially for experienced people…

United KingdomWonderful location, so tranquil and brilliantly placed for getting the gondola to Lake Oeschinensee, which turned out to be one of my top hikes of all time - wow! Hotel Ermitage is super cute. The restaurant is lovely and had plenty of delicious vegetarian choices for me. Breakfast is great. The views are amazing. We went into the hot pot after a strenuous day hiking which was so much fun and perfect for soothing the muscles! We stargazed at the beautiful night sky from the hotel car park with the tinkling of cow bells from the field. All the staff were delightful. Thank-you everyone for our wonderful stay!

LuxembourgThe restaurant was very good, pricy but that's Switzerland. What I didn't like was that they offered to prepare me a dessert (waffle) with chocolate instead of berries (like advertised on the card) and charged extra for the replacement without saying so in advance.

United KingdomTiny bathroom with a daft shower arrangement (cubicle-filling rain shower or waist-high mounted hand-held shower head). No lift (and no offer of help with luggage) from car park a floor below reception up to 2nd floor bedroom (though it was worth it for the view). Electric car charging was outsourced and expensive, with a "Parking charge" so you couldn't really leave it charging overnight.
Perfect location right next to the gondola up to Oeschinensee and a lovely view down the valley. Good food in the restaurant and a nice breakfast buffet, just lacking a little in choice.
