Had a short stay but wonderful!! The place is amazing, the terrace is beautiful and you can relax in quiet, very comfy bed, clean room and delicious breakfast! The location is great to stay for starting place for hikes and the staff friendly and helpful! Hopefully to return and stay longer! Thank you!

Without taking away from every other aspect to our stay (which was excellent!) the only minor complaint was the design of the bathroom. Small compact bathrooms are quite common in Europe, but this one was particularly difficult. We are older, and we needed to be gymnasts to sit down on the toilet. If remodeled, this bathroom deserves some better re-designing. Another very small quibble - the bed needed a bedside table (one side of the bed was the door to the bathroom and no bedside table would have worked, but the other side had room for a bedside table)

We would highly recommend this hotel and restaurant. This hotel was located in an exceptionally beautiful and tranquil setting (we were there in the Summer). You are in the countryside and the views of the Swiss countryside and the Appenzeller Alps were outstanding. The room (#8) was exceptionally large and nice (windows on both east and south sides - a corner room). We ate at the restaurant and the food was excellent (but you had to ignore the health food slant of the menu because the actual dishes were excellent).

The property was in an incredibly beautiful area of Switzerland! It was close to Ebenalp. It was easy to get to, comfortable, clean, and had a delicious breakfast!

I didn't realize this when booking this property, but apparently some sort of 'Appenzell card' (don't know the actual name) was included. You could take several cable cars for free, enter certain museums for free, get discounts on the bus etc. Saved me at least 50€ ...

We only stayed one night, so I can't say we were unhappy with anything really, but here are some things to be aware of. The walk from the train station is only 3 min, but it's an uphill walk the whole way, so be mindful if you have a lot of luggage. Also, regarding the train station, even though the address of the hotel in in Weisbad, that isn't the correct train stop. The correct stop is the Shwende stop, but that stop isn't a scheduled stop on the train, you have to request the stop (push a button like on a bus) after the Weisbad stop. The same applies is you are returning back from the Wausserauen stop in the opposite direction. Also when you are leaving from the Shwende station, you have to push a button on a kiosk to request for the train to stop there otherwise it'll just roll right past you and you have to wait another 30 min. None of this is difficult or a reason not to stay here, but it will save you time and annoyance if you know this ahead of time. Also, there isn't much that is written in English there, so it's handy to have Google translate ready with the German packet downloaded so it can translate the text on pictures you take. Front desk staff speaks English, but we went on a Wed so they weren't around (they take Wed and Thurs off). Also be aware that on days they are there it seems the latest someone is there to check you in is at 7pm, so plan travel accordingly. None of these things I mentioned are reasons not to stay here, it was a very pleasant stay and I'd be happy to stay there again.

Room was nice and modern. Hot water and water pressure in the shower were good. There is a restaurant on the premises, as well as a very good restaurant at the hotel next door. Check in was easy, just be aware that the staff takes Wed and Thurs off, so no one will be there to check you in (you receive an email and they provide you with a code you punch in to open the door and get your key, super easy). It's a 3 min walk from the nearest train station. Views of the rolling hills are fantastic

This hotel is a gem. A lovely property run by an efficient and pleasant couple in a great location. Our rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious. My only minor request would be a paper add on to the dinner menu in English as it took awhile using Google translate. The dinner was also excellent.

Carpet flooring just never feels truly clean in my experience. Creaking floor and bathroom door- loud enough i worried it disturbed the other guests.

Beautiful and convenient location for hiking in the alpstein area. Good fruit selection at breakfast!
