How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I would have appreciated getting a guest card which would have provided discounts to things in and around Lucerne. In particular, I think it would’ve provided a discount for the ridiculously expensive trip to Mt. Rigi. Also, it would’ve been nice to have local information about where to eat for example, the discounted food available at the ass-bar with day old pastries. I would appreciate whatever a self check in place can do to provide information to their city in light of the fact that there is nobody to ask a question of: about events, how to find an authentic restaurant that doesn’t overcharge…etc As well as some information about how to operate the actual property. There’s a lovely skylight directly over the bed. I did not know that on one of the poles in the middle of the room was the switch to close a blind over the skylight. So the first night I had city lights coming in directly over the bed. It seems the standard bedding involves a very warm duvet, suitable for it being 50°, which is not helpful in July when it is already warm. There’s not a lighter weight option to have a bed covering suitable for it being 70° out. This location is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the train station

Staff very inflexible with checkout time. Given the high nightly rate and booking 2 x rooms, staff were insistent we checkout no later than 11am and would not allow us to stay a minute longer.

No air conditioning

For environmental reasons, we have chosen not to use traditional air conditioning. Instead, all our apartments are equipped with sustainable underfloor cooling, which keeps the rooms at a comfortable temperature of around 24 °C. Additional fans are also provided at all time. Verified reviewVery good location which is the main feature - walking distance from the Bahnhoff and 100m from the lake. Clean rooms esp the Bathroom which was well designed and very clean. Furniture in living room was comfortable and new. Reasonably good space, not cramped.
If you encounter an issue, even if minor, their attitude is below standard. Left early on day 1 and put the clean my room sign at 7:30 am. Came back at around 15:05 and room was not done. It wasnt an issue if I hadnt come back from a day long hike. It later appeared that my room was the last to be cleaned for the day because they were busy handling the checkout rooms! The customer service agent was rude, unprofessional and frankly surprising given the Swiss service standards I encountered during my trip. This really affected my mood for the day and I set about finding a way to escalate until a manager finally replied and addressed this on Booking.com. I booked this suite late so my expectations were low, otherwise would have got a hotel or the like with a view - otherwise you miss the beauty of the lake and more. The fan helped with the heat, but the room gets stuffy if you dont open a window and then the traffic noise comes in. Overall my sleep quality was below standard, though manageable to some extent. This is challenging on value given the cost. Besides all of this, its nice to be in an establishment where staff are available.

Allow me to clarify for you – and also for future guests: our housekeeping team interprets the “Please service the room” sign as an indication that the room may now be cleaned, but not necessarily as an urgent request. In order to ensure that newly arriving guests can check in on time from 3:00 p.m., our team must first prioritize check-out rooms. All stayover rooms are cleaned afterwards, which in your case unfortunately meant that your room was serviced later in the day. Please rest assured that this has nothing to do with a lack of appreciation for our in-house guests. Cleanliness and comfort are very important to us, and during the remaining days of your stay our team made every effort to give extra attention to your room. We regret that the timing of the cleaning negatively impacted your experience, and we take your feedback seriously in order to improve our communication and service going forward. Checking luggage in was very difficult and we ended up finding somewhere else to store the it before we could properly check in. It took a while to get assistance, as there was none on site.

No air conditioning. If you opened the windows it was crazy loud and we were provided earbuds on our bedside tables. Angled walls not good for tall people. Limited cutlery & cups/glasses. Hot plate covered and a note was put on it that we didn't get that included. Quite a sterile environment.
