SwitzerlandIt was my wife’s birthday and I asked the receptionist to make the stay a bit special. Either by flowers, or at least candles for dinner or breakfast. I didn’t get any of that and she didn’t even talk about it later on… The last boat leaves Porto Ronco at around 2. But in the Hotel’s Booking description they mentioned it leaves at around 5pm.

Photos and words cannot do this wonderful place justice. The location is simply breathtaking and once the last ferry leaves around 5:30pm you have the entire island to yourself with the other few hotel guests (10 rooms in total). There are picturesque viewpoints all around the island in the various areas of the botanical garden, where the vegetation is assembled by world region. The restaurant, while expensive, is worth every penny. Certainly one of the best dining experiences we have ever had - an intimate, quiet, superbly delicious meal looking out over the lake to the lovely town of Ascona under the kind and watchful eye of the restaurant manager who handles all table duties alone.

SwitzerlandNo fridge in room and rather silly receptionist lady who said they could not put a bottle in their fridge !! Fortunately a waiter was nearby and decided there really was no problem. The girl's attitude was rather disappointing.
Absolutely fantastic location, total paradise and the botanical gardens of Ticino all to yourself after 18,00hrs. Excellent restaurant with knowledgeable staff. Well worth the price !

The staff were really nice and friendly. The garden was open to guests even after 5 pm which was a great experience.

Villa Emden was absolutely amazing. Such a peaceful hotel on a beautiful tiny island in the middle of a Swiss lake. You really have the feeling you have the whole island to yourself.

A beautiful villa, on a magical botanical island, with an absolutely outstanding cuisine. I loved strolling the garden, and swimming in the glorious Lago Maggiore
