How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The beds could be a tiny bit more confortable.

No air conditioning and lack of attention to detail

No AIR-CONDITIONING! It was like sleeping in a Sauna! I'm tired of the excuses for this (GOV Regulation etc). Switzerland is a DIRECT democracy - if you want to change a law you only need to collect some signatures and you can force a vote. Buying a Dyson Air blade is 100% not satisfactory. Also, I booked a river view room and was given a city room.... The photos should not display the river view if you are selecting a city view room..

It’s wonderful to read that you enjoyed our location by the Rhine, our breakfast, and also made use of the traditional swimming bags – we love when our guests can experience this very local way of enjoying Basel. At the same time, I’m truly sorry that your stay was impacted by the summer heat. Our building is historic and therefore not equipped with air conditioning – this is due both to structural reasons and to current building regulations. We fully understand your frustration. Even though Switzerland has a system of direct democracy, changes to construction and heritage laws are complex and cannot be implemented by a single hotel. In the meantime, we try our best with alternative solutions such as our ventilation system and additional fans, even if this cannot fully replace AC. Regarding the room view: I double-checked, and the booking was indeed for a Double Room City. This category does not include a river view. Still, we take your point seriously that the photos should make the difference clearer, so expectations are transparent from the start. We will review our online presentation to avoid any misunderstanding in the future. Thank you again for taking the time to share both the positive and the challenging sides of your experience. Verified reviewWe had a room with city view, and on Saturday night it’s extremely busy in the bars around the hotel. Even with the windows closed we couldn’t sleep till 02:00, until the bars closed. We also live in a city center, but a bar below your sleeping window is a different piece of cake ;) Such a pity, because the rest of the hotel was very nice.

Verified reviewThe staff was very friendly, welcoming, efficient and helpful. They are the ones who make the difference between just a stay in this nice hotel, or a stay that you enjoy and will remember. Breakfasts are very good, quite above any typical hotel-breakfast. Rooms are clean, spacious and confortable. The hotel itself is super well located both at the center, and nearby public transports.
I thought that our room would have a view on the river, when it actually didn't, and this wasn't clear to me at the time of the reservation. Still, it remains quite a detail and did not have any impact on our well being in the hotel!

I was there in Summer, midst heat wave, which makes the room temperature very hot. Not all rooms have AC. Luckily my room was provided with a fan to reduce the temperature.

if you have car, they mentioned they have parking, but there is no any parking, you have to park in a far paid parking and it is 10min by walk from the hotel.

Verified reviewI love that it is so close to the Rhine. It is a nice property with coffee and snacks for the room. The room had big soft pillow, which is very uncomfortable for me, but they very quickly provided enough pillows.
The breakfast is not worth the Fr.29 and the service was a bit slow.

The hotel needs to be renovated, bathrooms are too small and also for now there is a big construction next to hotel and it’s very noisy outside city view rooms. Bed is not comfortable.

Small and expensive, fan in room - no air on

Verified reviewThe room was very spacious, the hotel itself is in an ideal location. They provided a waterproof bag so we could enjoy a swim in the Rhine - which was a lovely touch considering the heat in Switzerland during our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Brilliant hotel and staff, would stay here again.
The only issue we had was the heat. The hotel very kindly provided a fan in the room - nothing more they could've done to make it more comfortable but it was still 29 degrees through the night with the fan on.
