How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe had a restful time in this chalet, and there was an immediate effect of vacation the moment we arrived. The surrounding is peaceful and the view of the lake and Niesen is simply breath-taking. The property has high quality kitchen and bathroom equipment, and the whirlpool was a nice touch to wind down after spending the days sightseeing in the region, which has so much beautiful nature to offer. There are self-service machines selling milk and eggs just 150m by foot from the chalet, which is so nice to be able to get the freshest ingredients for our breakfast. The weather was great during our stay, and enjoyed all our meals on the terrace with that perfect view. The owner acts professionally and remained contactable whenever we needed help. It was already the second time that my cousin stayed in this chalet, and friends are already eager to book it after seeing my photos. For a peaceful and relaxing vacation, this is definitely recommended.

Verified reviewI stayed in Chalet Egglen for 4 days on our trip with my husband, daughter and parents. We were welcomed by Markus (AirBnb owner) and given a house tour with pamphlets and maps on the surroundings. As a local, he provided us some great tips on restaurants, where to go on a rainy day, how to navigate around etc. We did a bunch of research beforehand so we knew what exactly we wanted to do in Interlaken and surrounding areas, but you can not beat a local’s insight. The house was very clean, very well equipped and owner was very responsive. We had a few questions here and there and he was beyond helpful. He knew it was our 2-year daughter’s b’day and he even left a cake at our doorstep, going the extra mile to make our time lovely at his place. When you wake up the first thing you see is lake and mountains, the views are to die for. The neighborhood is so pretty. We were split between staying in Interlaken vs here, but so glad we picked this place. 15 min drive from Interlaken, 15 min drive from Thun – perfect location. We loved everything about this place and host. We travel a lot and have never stayed at a better house than this. I would highly recommend this property and Markus’ hospitality!

Verified reviewMarkus was a very kind host. He actually was waiting in the chalet and greeted us unlike airbnb hosts where you do self check in and had to read the house rulebook. Markus told us all the instructions on how to use the lamp, the jacuzzi, how to use the electric stove and where things are. He also provided some recommendations on where to go. He even helped us to carry some suitcases despite one of his arm is broken. The most amazing thing about this place is the view. Omg the view is so breathtaking. Plus if you take the jacuzzi while watching the view, its so heavenly. I like how the chalet is very clean, the smell of wooden room reminds me of sauna room which is quite calming. There is an organic milk vending machine from a local farmer nearby the chalet, which is very cool. And its cheap too. Only 1.4 chf you get 1 litre of fresh organic milk! And best of all this chalet has automated water bidet toilet. This feels like back home in South East Asia or Japan where the toilet can use water.
Markus is a very nice host. But is it just me or it is maybe a swiss thing. But I cannot really enjoy my time in this stay. I feel the whole experience left me not wanting to come back to swiss again. Or at the very least next time I should have stayed in a hotel. The instruction for living "correctly" in this house is pretty long so I had to spend some time reading it and memorizing it. I feel like I need to do some work here. And I probably made some mistake in remembering all the rules. Probably wont happen if I am staying in a hotel. Not only I have to clean the dishes (which is fine, usually when I stay in airbnb, I always clean the dishes) but also also need to dry them and put them where they are stored when I check out otherwise there is a penalty. The keyword here is there is a penalty. I also need to make sure the trash bag are properly sorted. No aluminum or glass in the wastebin. Ok that is fine, when I am staying in Japan there are a lot of more types of recycling. But the catch is, in this chalet, it is my responsibility to find where the recycling center of the town. Like... I dont even live here. Why is it my responsibility to find where the recycling center is. If I throw away aluminum can in the trash, then Markus probably will get angry at me. And I happened to buy some beers so I had to take my beer cans with me in my car to throw away in the train station nearby because this chalet has no recyling bin. The lamps in the corridor, hallways, and the bathroom are timed to turn off automatically (except the kitchen and the bed room). So my mom actually was in the bathroom taking a shower then she want to change clothing and suddenly the lamp died. So she had to find the lamp switch and quite troublesome for her. At night when we are just wondering around the house, we need to keep turning on the lamp. Also there is no microwave. I dont know if its a swiss thing but all the chalets I stay in swiss dont have microwave.
In our culture, we Swiss take care of something that does not belong to us. When we rent accommodation, we want to know exactly what is important in the house and also in the neighborhood. We try our best to adapt and at the end we leave the accommodation in a tidy condition. We rarely cook with a microwave, but there is always one in the kitchen cupboard ready for use. If we want to be pampered and we don't want to wash our own dishes, we're happy to pay a little more and look for a nice hotel. That's probably why we're such welcomed guests around the world when we rent a house.

Verified reviewPerfect amount of space for our group of 4. Loved the hot tub and the views. The neighborhood was peaceful and quaint. The beautiful house was very clean with comfortable beds. The kitchen was well equipped. Our host Markus was helpful, informative and responded quickly to inquiries. Check in/out was very easy. We would 100% stay here again.
This is minor, but if I could change one thing it would be to have a toilet on the bottom floor.

4 men's were with us for 1 night, didn't care about the accommodation at all and left a huge mess. We had to charge extra for 2 hours of cleaning. If you do not know how to handle someone else's property, please do not book with us. Markus, owner

Verified reviewI must say, it surpassed all my expectations from the moment we requested an early check-in till the moment you checked-out. The three-story chalet itself is beautifully designed, impeccably clean, and offers stunning panoramic views that will leave you in awe. From the moment we arrived, the host demonstrated the utmost professionalism and class, ensuring that our stay was nothing short of perfect. his attention to detail, combined with his warm and welcoming nature, made us feel right at home. Each floor of the chalet offers spacious living areas and comfortable bedrooms, making it the ideal choice for my family. The cleanliness of the chalet was evident throughout, and it is clear that the host takes great pride in maintaining such a high standard. In conclusion, I cannot recommend the Chalet EGGLEN highly enough. If you're looking for a luxurious and serene getaway, complete with a professional and classy host, look no further. This is the perfect destination to relax, unwind, and create lasting memories.
There is truly nothing negative to say. It's just that a rating out of 10 does not do justice to such an exceptional experience. I wish there were a 10+ rating available to better reflect our satisfaction.
