Good location, breakfast was good, nice host

First place in Switzerland that didn’t feel clean, both bedroom and bathroom - other reviews felt misleading

Small room, but clean and comfortable. In-house restaurant with good pizza & breakfast. Very friendly staff. The location is perfect, the cable car to Oeschinensee is in walking distance.

    Good location, nice staff

The hotel is located above the restaurant, so there is always the smell of cooking. The room has a lot of flies, but there is a fly swatter provided. The staff forgot to collect the room payment and called to request it after we had already checked out.

This accommodation is great value for money (especially in Switzerland!). Located in quick walking distance to all the shops and supermarkets in the center of Kandersteg, as well as to the cablecars taking you to Oeschinensee and Allmenalp. Rooms are minimalistic, but seem to have been renovated recently, and are perfectly suited for staying a few nights. The breakfast is varied and delicious, with freshly-baked bread from the owner, good coffee and a variety of cheeses, cold cuts and jams.

The lack of WiFi, and that there is no door separating the shower area from the rest of the room.

Easy to find, decent room with private bathroom and shower, friendly staff, very nice breakfast.

Quite close to the road so very loud cars, lots of flies and insect so would recommend a screen across the windows

The hotel itself is very traditional, staff is very nice and helpful. Amazing location with most gorgeous view from the hotel room.

I like the fact the hotel is very traditional but tv in the room would be nice, and bed needs to be upgrade

Nice sized clean bathroom, big shower with great water pressure. Plenty plug sockets, big comfortable bed, good sized room, amazing Mountain View’s from the window! Have to pay for the wifi but there is great mobile service around the entire town if you have a roaming sim. Great breakfast, basic but good selection and freshly made coffee! I didn’t get the chance to have dinner at the restaurant but they serve pizza until 9-9:30pm which was a great option if coming back later. Location: very close to the train station and round the corner from two different supermarkets and there’s plenty cafes and restaurants across the road. It is extremely accessible via foot to the Oeschinensee hike and sunnbuel hike which I did over my two day stay. There’s a lovely bakery literally opposite which is very affordable and delicious. no noise very peaceful and quiet for the most part! Check-in was super easy and accommodating. Check-in on booking.com stated 5-6:30pm but I messaged the property asking if I could check in earlier around 3pm and the room was ready for me as I walked in at 2:15pm, this allowed me to freshen up and drop off bags to start my day a lot earlier than expected! Check-in and Check-out was very easy and seamless

The pension is in a good location in Kandersteg, however the town is small and so everywhere is well located for the station and restaurants. It is right on the main road like many other places, so there is traffic noise. The host gave us our guest cards without us having to ask for them, as we’ve had to do in other places.

The photos currently on the website are disingenuous as the rooms shown look decent, and nothing like the room we were given. We booked for 6 nights because we needed a base for our walks on the Via Alpina. We thought the pension looked cosy and the room shown looked nice, also we wanted a bath. It was also a more reasonable price than other hotels, reflected by its 2 star rating, although the nightly rate was still £150 exc tax, which in the UK would get you a 4 star hotel. The issues we had were: - the room was awful. It’s clear that nothing had been updated since the 1970s. The bed was old and the headboard worn, the bedding was old and cheap, the pillows were so thin it felt like you didn’t have one, the bathroom was disgraceful- on the first day the shower attachment shot off the wall and soaked the room, the towels were ancient, the electrics looked dangerous and sparked, the curtains were threadbare, the furniture was old and worn out. We didn’t feel like going back at the end of each day. - the breakfast was poor. It was laid out on a small table and consisted of cornflakes and muesli, 1 jug of juice for everyone, a few loaves of bread and a small amount of sweaty looking ham and cheese. My partner’s espresso was ok but my coffee was weak and watery. - Noise. Lots of unacceptable noise. It had nothing to do with the pension being above a restaurant because it closed at 10pm. After that the 2 lady owners & gentleman friend were sat outside shouting and smoking until after 11pm on the first 2 nights, then up at 6.30am to carry on, right under our open window. On the third night, they allowed a party of young lads who weren’t guests to sit drinking in the garden and they were doing the same, all shouting and laughing, until after midnight I couldn’t stand it any more and I had to get dressed, go downstairs and remonstrate with them. They did not even apologise but looked surprised!

THE. BEST. BREAKFAST. EVER. I have never seen my wife eating so much and so happily. Best coffee you will ever have in such category of hotels. Breakfast also included fresh fruits, freshly baked bread, milk, yoghurt, eggs, cereals, etc.

Bed mattresses were worn out and bedsheets also quite old.
