How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe hotel's location was okay - we could see the Matterhorn if you leaned out over the railing on the deck. Rooms were quite small but the beds were comfortable.
The owners of the hotel were shockingly rude to me. We paid over 400 dollars a night at this hotel and were there for 3 nights total. The owner of the hotel accused me of stealing food from the breakfast buffet ( I had prepaid 30 US dollars per person ) for breakfast for both myself and my son who ate ONE bowl of cereal and returned to the room to lay down. I tried to bring him a plate of grapes and a croissant and got yelled at by the hotel manager in front of my son. She said to me "do you think we are stupid! ?" and tried to humiliate me in the lobby in front of my child. She told me she was going to charge me another 30 dollars for my tiny plate of grapes and a dried up croissant. I have never EVER experienced such poor treatment from hotel staff. Then at check out we were charged because I asked for 2 clean towels! We never used housekeeping services in the 3 days we were there yet got charged around 15 USD for 2 bath towels at check out. Apparently you are supposed to make the towels they give you last the duration of your stay. This place seems to only care about money and not about taking care of their guests. Atrocious customer service. There are many many hotels in Zermatt. Avoid this one! Deeply regret staying here.

As for the disappointments, Our bath towels are changed daily when the room is serviced. We provide two towels per person per day, and an information sheet detailing any additional charges is in the bathroom. If guests request extra towels, those charges apply, as in your case. Our evening receptionist advised you too. Your son arrived early, alone, for breakfast and took his meal accordingly. When he left, you yourself came for breakfast. Breakfast is included in the room rate. However, we do not permit guests to treat the breakfast area like a supermarket, it is even mentioned in our breakfast room that take way is not permitted. Especially when guests take food such as cheese, yogurt, or croissants to eat as an in-room meal later. You attempted to justify your actions by suggesting your son did not attend breakfast due to illness, although he enjoyed breakfast on his own before you. Verified reviewThe breakfast was amazing - great selection of cheeses, pastries, bread, etc. The room was very clean and even with the couch made into a bed, it provided enough room for our luggage. We did only have one pillow per person, but after speaking with reception, they were able to provide more pillows. There was no AC or fans, but with the doors open, it was not too hot.

Verified reviewWe had a view of the Matterhorn from our balcony. It was unfortunate that our stay coincided with a freak storm which deposited more snow at the time of year than normal. We lost power for a time and with the amount of snow around what otherwise would have been a short distance to food outlets and the centre of town became impossible. If the amount of snow was not there the hotel is a 6 minute walk from the centre of town and well located. We were particularly appreciative of Yolanda who was absolutely fantastic. The snow however was magical after the storm and it was fortunate the trains re-opened when we were due to leave. Otherwise we were very happy with the hotel which is a lovely property.

Verified reviewWonderful, helpful staff, super clean room and a great breakfast. The fact that the hotel after check out, enabled me to ski in the day and provided a shower and changing facilities before late afternoon travel, was brilliant and really appreciated.
Very minor but I would have liked a bit more body wash and shampoo. The little bottles provided daily were just too small.
