Only complaint is that the pool, spa area unavailable because under repair and we did not know this before hand. Felt some kind of discount should have been offered even though we were told we could use facilities at another venue.

Breakfast was very nice with option to have fresh omlette. Staff excellent - very friendly and helpful. Nice room with great view of the Matterhorn

The Swiss Railway Inspectors are very strict, so have at least two downloaded/printed versions of your ticket and the half-price voucher with you. I had downloaded a pdf version, a screenshot and Google Wallet. I found that the QR code in the Wallet does not scan, and their initial response is "your ticket is invalid"! However, most inspectors are patient and will wait for you to find another form of proof. Make sure you have one...

We stayed in Zermatt for a short break in May, flying to Zurich and then train to Zermatt. We were very lucky with the weather with blue skies every day. We requested a special room so we had a view of the Matterhorn from our window. The Julen hotel is a very special place to stay. The staff are so helpful and welcoming (thank you, Marco and Vera) and the food at breakfast and dinner is just fantastic. We went up in the gondola to the Glacier Paradise and took the cogwheel train to Gornergrat. We also walked around the town and into the surrounding area.

Julen : perfect! However we visited their sister hotel to use the half board one night. The Alpenhof for my birthday dinner wasn't our favorite, it was understaffed. They nicely decorated a table for my birthday but the host at the front door was also taking everyone's orders, with two large parties, we felt a bit forgotten. ( not the staffs fault, clearly) We had to request a drink menu which was taken while we were at the salad bar and never got a chance to order anything besides water. This compared to the Julen, was night and day... unsure why the hotels wouldn't share staff given they are the same company.

the hotel is adorable and feels like home. we visited their sister hotel alpenhof which has a very different feel. we very much preferred this hotel. it was well staffed, the spa was nice and so was the pool. our room was great with a wonderful view. They provided us with a small birthday table decor and card which was nice. they also provided us with a dog bed and bowl which was perfect because traveling by train to get to Zermatt we packed light! the shuttle to and from the train station was perfect with our bags and our dog it made the day 10x easier. The resturant at the Julen was wonderful, I believe we met the owner and some fun and friendly staff.

Ask for a room at the back (Matterhorn views) if you’re if you’re a light sleeper, because the front faces on a popular apres ski spot, which can get loud at night.

Breakfast buffet - loads of good food to choose from! Dinner - I paid for half board so evening meal was inclusive. It was a 5 course meal (starter, soup, salad buffet from salad bar, main course and dessert); the food was very tasty and high quality! Very good catering staff who were so accommodating & friendly! Location - very near to the ski lift bus stops. The ski shop I hire my skis is just a few steps away from the hotel. The hotel is in the central location of the village. My room is very clean with nice decoration. Smaller than the hotel rooms I stayed in other hotel but could not remember how much I was paying then. Very quiet though. The bed is very comfortable. Every evening the housekeeper would deliver and put some toblerone chocolates onto my bed! Very sweet gesture from the hotel. Swimming pool - the swimming pool is quite big when compared to many other hotels. Very nice decoration.

Wonderful staff, really friendly and helpful. The owner was always about and would say hello to everyone which gave a personal touch. Pool was nice, didn't find the steam room! Well located everything was in walking distance. We booked a Matterhorn room which was very spacious as well as having a superb view. Just lovely.

The location and the staff! Went above and beyond. Met the owner 3,x as he walked around checking on guests. A great host. The food was delish! Great options and we'll prepared and served. Sorry to leave. It was a wonderful ending to an 18 day trip. Certainly the highlight!! Can't wait to return for a longer stay. Thank you 🥰
