How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe Building, if you are fan of Thomas Mann Der Zauberberg
Last night we got sick and at 20:25h hotel could not provide (sell) anything to eat or a paracetamol. If you are an isolated hotel in a Mountain (you can't arrive by car) you need to be more resourseful. Personnel said they are sorry but didn't really seemed to care about us.
Thank you very much for your feedback, Mr. Isidoro. I am sorry that you felt unwell during the night and that we were unable to offer you any food after the restaurant had closed. Our restaurant is open daily until 8:00 p.m. We would like to point out that the Schatzalp funicular runs regularly between Schatzalp and Davos until midnight – the journey takes just 4 minutes. This means that even after the restaurant has closed, our guests have the opportunity to quickly and conveniently reach the centre of Davos, where pharmacies and shops are open until late in the evening. Important! *Furthermore, in case of emergencies, we are available at all times and can immediately call an ambulance to ensure prompt medical assistance.* We take your feedback very seriously and continuously review how we can further improve our service. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel soon. Kind regards, Paulo Bernardo General Manager

Verified reviewThere's magic in this hotel. One feels transported 100 or at least 80-70 years back in time, it is an art-nouveau gem, a capsule in time, with fantastic ambiance and beautiful interiors. The staff are extremely helpful and polite, giving a service much more appropriate for a 5 star establishment, and not a 3 star one - the status the hotel has now. Just looking out of the gigantic windows in the bar/foyer onto the fading light upon the mountains, while listening to Chopin being played on the piano and fire crackling in the fire place, sunbathing on the balcony, wandering the halls of the hotel and experiencing the "Magic Mountain" vibes is worth every penny! The breakfast was also amazing with plenty to choose from. And coming on and off the mountain via the hotel's funicular was something straight out of Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest hotel, which I feel the Schatzalp heavily inspired, just like it did Thomas Mann 100 years ago.
So just be aware that this hotel requires a lot of imagination as it is in fact crumbling. There are no modern amenities of any king - even the radios in the rooms are at least 50 years old. It is all quite charming in fact, but for example all the rooms (even if clean) smell of the 100 000 of guests that passed through them through the ages (they are carpeted so small wonder). The family that owns the hotel stopped investing in it probably in the 70s (this was when our room was updated) and it really shows. Also - be aware that all rooms are different and that what you book on booking.com might differ from what you get (I booked something that looked like a charming room full of antiques and got a 70's room instead - it was fine, as the view from the balcony was great, but keep it in mind). Also - this is not a criticism, but if there isn't enough snow the private ski lifts are unusable (they do not have the ability to put artificial snow on the hotel's slopes) and also the sledge run gets closed for safety reasons. Make sure you take all this into consideration when booking. Also if this hotel were to be renovated the prices would make it unaffordable for mere mortals.
Dear Błażej, Thank you very much for your wonderful words and the poetic description of your stay with us! We are delighted that you were able to appreciate the special charm of our hotel, the historical ambience and the unique atmosphere. Your allusion to the ‘Magic Mountain’ and the ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ particularly honours us. At the same time, we understand that our hotel does not offer the modern luxury of a newly built hotel; it was built in 1900 and was designed as a luxury sanatorium at the time. We have been the proud owners of this Art Nouveau jewel since 2003 and continuously invest in its preservation and careful renovation - without, however, losing its historical character. As the two private owners are not patrons of the arts, but invest all their profits in the business, these measures are carried out gradually, unfortunately sometimes more slowly than we would like. A current example: In the coming mid-season, we will be renewing all the balcony railings to further improve the safety of our guests, including our younger guests, in the hotel. The diversity of our rooms is part of the hotel's history - no two rooms are the same, which is part of our individual charm. Nevertheless, we regret that the room you booked did not exactly meet your expectations. We recommend that future guests contact us directly if they have any special requests - we will do our best to fulfil them. Your comment about the winter sports facilities is also absolutely correct: as we rely on natural snow, we cannot guarantee snow. For us, safety always comes first, which is why we unfortunately have to close the lifts and toboggan run if conditions are inadequate. We advise our guests to check the current snow conditions before booking. However, our winter hiking trails are open and can be used at any time. We would like to thank you for your visit and your honest feedback - and hope to welcome you back soon so that we can take you on another little journey through time. With greetings from the Magic Mountain Paulo Bernardo Dipl. Hôtelier

The facade of the hotel needs more attention (and lots of money for renovations)
Thank you very much for your review, which we are really pleased about! We are aware of the condition of the façade and are already working on the planning for the renovations. Next spring we will renew the balcony railings after almost 5 years of planning. Kind regards from the Schatzalp Paulo Bernardo Dipl. Hôtelier

Verified reviewWe really liked the atmosphere of the hotel. Location is perfect. We really enjoyed walking around the hotel and the botaniums were fantastic. Restaurant was fine.
We enjoyed this classic Swiss hotel, but we did not like the unpleasant smell of the old room.
Thank you for taking the time to share your impressions with us. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the atmosphere of our hotel, the location and especially the beautiful botanical gardens. It is great to hear that you were able to enjoy the surroundings around the hotel, as we did. However, we regret that the odour in the room did not meet your expectations. We take your feedback very seriously and will endeavour to rectify this problem. It will be our pleasure to welcome you again during your next stay. Verified reviewThe hotel has a very special atmosphere, that can not be explained by words I think. The staff is top, very charismatic and professional. I loved the view from the hotel.
The sauna in the spa could be more spacious. It was very crowded on saturday so that it was not enjoyable, there was no space to cool down and rest after the heat in the sauna. Also it was very cold in the rooms, luckily we got an extra heater for our room.
Thank you for your review, which we are very pleased with! The outdoor area of the saunas next to the relaxation room is also open in summer and winter. Kind regards from Davos Paulo Bernardo Direktor

Dear Mr. Philippe K , Thank you for your second feedback now on your stay over the New Year holidays. As already previously written I'm still very sorry to learn that some aspects of your experience did not meet your expectations. You only wanted to use our a-la-carte offer in the Panorama Restaurant and vehemently declined to participate in the New Year's Eve party at Hotel Schatzalp. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused, especially as it was pointed out in advance that certain areas of the hotel were reserved exclusively for party guests, where you and your partner were staying and being served, and my staff and I pointed this out to you several times. It is important to us to respect the needs of all our guests and I regret that we were unable to meet your expectations in this regard. I assure you that we have already learned from this situation and will ensure that such misunderstandings are avoided in the future. Regarding your comments about the furnishings and condition of the hotel, I would like to inform you that we are continuously taking steps for renovations and these are continously being carried out. The Hotel Schatzalp is a "Swiss Historic Hotel" and is run as such and appreciated by our other guests. I appreciate your honest feedback and will be happy to assist you personally if you have any further concerns or questions. With kind regards from the Schatzalp Paulo Bernardo Dipl. Hôtelier

Verified reviewLocation, on the top of Davos
The Hotel and Rooms were left in a nostalgic stay from the 40-ies/50-ies. So were the beds. The rooms at 850 CHF a night were minuscule and outdated. The walkway looks more like a sanatorium then a Hotel, overdue renovation are pending, with broken sofas and the like. And the staff seems to be stressed to the edge with their workload, where the (German) Manager of the Hotel was everything else than friendly and welcoming towards his guests staying and celebrating the year end in Davos.

Verified reviewThis hotel provides the rare experience of traveling back in time, with exquisite original furnishings and lavish interiors from a bygone time. Everyone familiar with Mann’s the magic mountain, will immediately recognize the inspirational material, and soon find him/herself on the «horizontal» position, enjoying the wonderful view, and possibly enjoying a Maria Mancini, walking in the footsteps of Hans Castorp. My stay was magical, and i look forward to coming back
As the hotel is old, the condition of the hotel in some places may not be up to modern standards. However, this is part of the historic charm, and is in no way any meaningful disturbance
