How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewBeautiful and relaxed surroundings Very courteous staff, especially "Noae" (spelling?) at dinner was superb Delicious food for both breakfast and dinner
We missed a fan in our room during a hot August night Food at dinner was also a bit slow to arrive for our liking (2 hours for 2 courses) but that would have been ok if we were 2 adults instead of me and my 7 year-old daughter

Verified reviewActually, the ONLY thing that we liked about this place was the breakfast - a VERY nice meal prepared to order in a beautiful, historic dining room! The woman serving us was incredibly nice, and it was a very good last impression.
My wife booked this stay, since we really love to stay in old historic hotels when we travel, but this hotel was priced as 4-star hotel, while it should honestly be rated as a 1-star at best! I am NOT a person that likes to complain, and I do NOT usually leave bad reviews for places that we don't like, But now I feel that I have to, since this hotel was SO FAR BELOW our expectations, and I felt it required a "buyer beware" for other travelers. The building itself looks nice, but our first impression was that the entry door was locked at around 15:30. When a young woman came to open the door, she told us that she was "On her break", but "she was being nice to let us in". There was really NO RECEPTION OR LOBBY area at all, with nobody to talk to or ask questions other than restaurant staff. The "Check-in" area was actually for the restaurant. After checking in, we were led up to our hotel room, which was truly a disappointment! While we normally appreciate old historic buildings with rustic finishes and decor, the rooms felt very run down and dumpy in our opinion. Normally, in an old historic castle, the rooms are furnished with older furniture that matches the feel of the space, but this hotel has decorated the rooms with very cheap furniture - including the cheapest IKEA side tables that you can buy! We had booked a "Family Room with Private External Bathroom", which is understandable - since it is an old historic building, but there was nothing "Private" about it. While I expected the "external bathroom" to be adjacent to the room, it was actually down a flight of stairs, through one hall, then up a few more stairs to another hallway. We had to SHARE our "Private" bathroom with other guests, and while we supposedly had "our own" toilet and shower, and only shared a sink, there was NOTHING to prevent other hotel guests from using them.

Verified reviewNice breakfast, friendly staff and unique castle hotel with thick walls and great views on the countryside.
the bathroom arrangement is somehow a bit special and understandable due to the historic building and renovation constraints .

Verified reviewThe room itself was nice, the rest was mediocre at best. Hyper expensive food.
We were coming in from Austria and the traffic was really heavy on a Sunday evening so we got to the hotel about 6:45 PM and we had made a reservation for dinner because you have to do that to eat there at the latest time that we could do it which is 7:30 PM. The first thing they asked us when we got there was that we could eat at 7 PM so the kitchen could go early. We said no because we wanted to shower and chill out for 20 minutes before we came down to dinner. Then the prices for dinner were pretty high. I had ravioli the large bowl for Fr.36 and had maybe 10 4 cm x 4 cm raviolis and that was it. I was hoping for more food. Tasted great. Lastly, when we checked in, no one told us that the front door was locked until at least eight in the morning. We had a flight to catch the next morning and try to leave at seven in the morning and could not get out. Apparently there’s a back door not the front door that you can get out, but no one told us this. In addition to get to that door, you have to go through another door that says rooms.(Zimmer) so it’s not intuitive to walk down a hallway that said more bedrooms. Lastly, even at eight in the morning when finally someone opened the front door after we made a phone call there was no food or anything that we could get for breakfast even though their breakfast is supposed to start at 8 AM. Just crazy never go back there again. And one last thing you would expect in a schloss like that that there would be some sitting area which would be comfortable to hang out in and read or do something, but there’s nothing. There’s just a dining room and your bedroom so once you finish dinner, there’s nothing to do except go to your room. That seemed a little ridiculous.

Verified reviewThe schloss is located in a quiet area surrounded by fields and a vineyard. There were also walking trails and quiet roads through a small village we could use to get out for the evening. The onsite restraunt was fabulous, the room was large, clean and comfortable. Included bathrobes and slippers were a nice touch. The staff was friendly. Breakfast was the usual with plenty of options. We stayed here on our way back to the Zurich airport, which was not far and it was preferable to be in a smaller town for the night.
There isn't an elevator so climbing with luggage is something to consider. Also, as others have mentioned there is a shared bathroom, it didn't end up being a problem for us. Each room has it's own toilet and shower room, which were clean and modern.

Verified reviewBreakfast was nice.
Private toilet and shower too far from our room. Ceiling of room very low, I bashed my head on the door going in and out. No hot water in room to make tea or coffee. Restaurant was full and no facility for a drink or snack.

Verified reviewWe did not know what to expect when booking a room in a castle during winter time, especially as the price was more affordable or on par with other accommodations in the region. We were given an upgrade of our room upon arrival which was a pleasant surprise. We received a quite big, beautifully decorated room with a very comfortable armchair, and with a bathroom a couple of steps down the hall, which was not that big of a deal, especially when you think that you are in a castle, and castles did not have toilets in the room. Also the bathroom was modern, warm, and super clean so there was absolutely no problem on that end. It is still private. The location was very good for us as we had a plan to see Schaffhausen and Rheinfall and this is just 20 min drive away. We also had dinner at the hotel restaurant which was excellent as well as the wine which was from a winery below the hill. The hotel/restaurant staff were super kind, they really added a little extra to this wonderful experience. In the evening we enjoyed being in the courtyard, enjoying the silence and the view of/from the castle, it felt like we had it for ourselves. We would gladly come back, hopefully someday we will.
Nothing.

Verified reviewEverything was really good, not thing to complain about at all: clean, comfortable, high standards all around, delicious breakfast, spacious room with good facilities. We enjoyed it a lot and would highly recommend! Staff was friendly and accommodating, especially the male receptionist/waiter (not sure his official title nor name but he seemed to be ‘everywhere’) was very service minded and made an extra effort to ensure everything was in order for us and double checked to meet our needs.

Verified reviewit was near to the location we needed to be and its location is great, very quiet surroundings. The kitchen is excellent, breakfast is prepared fresh and served ( no buffet ) - excellent service and verf friendly staff.
the bathroom is not in the room, the are however designated, so you aren't sharing yours with others.
