Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe rooms are very basic, designed for hikers/skiers with no amenities except body soap, no hairdryer and it costs min 54CHF just to get to the hotel from Zermatt
The staff were so helpful, friendly and very hard working. The breakfast was simple but delicious and the dinner was absolutely perfect! The location was great, away from the crowds of tourists and waking up to the view of the Matterhorn will stay with me forever

ThailandThe Rösti at dinner was unfortunately not the best. But the view made it up;)
Absolutely loved staying here and will be back again. Hotel Schwarzsee is the right place if you like to be close to the Matterhorn and nature. Nice place for lunch, hiking up to Hörnli Hütte and surroundings. Rooms with shared bathrooms were clean and perfect for one or two nights. The dinner and breakfast was included. Super nice staff. Damian especially was such a kind and happy person to meet. Being up early for sunrise he even turned on the coffee machine before the official breakfast start. Highly appreciated his cheerful, friendly and happy personality. The best place to stay after the gondolas stop running as it gets super quiet and the mountain view is breathtaking. Can’t wait to return!

United StatesPrior to our arrival hotel asked for our dietary restrictions and we conveyed them and they emailed back that "they would take care of everything". However, at dinner, only pork was offered and I am a vegetarian and told the waitstaff this. She asked if I told the kitchen that day that I was vegetarian, because they only prepared one vegetarian meal. I was upset because reception did not tell me that I had to confirm with the kitchen ahead of time that needed a vegetarian meal. Fortunately we were the first to arrive to dinner, so the kitchen was able to prepare a vegetarian alternative (roti with egg). Rooms are very clean and look much better than the photos, but I did notice dog hairs that made their way from deep under the bed. I like dogs, but am allergic to pet dander, so perhaps the hotel can designate rooms that are no pets for guests like me. Food was good, but only 1 waiter serving upwards of 30 people, so arrive early or your wait time will be very long for dinner. Continental breakfast was great first morning with several freshly baked loaves of bread and nice hot croissants, but second morning it seemed like leftover stale bread, quickly ran out of croissants, yogurt, etc. These small inconviences kept it from a perfect 10 rating. I would still, however, recommend you do not miss out on this amazing location.
What an amazing location away from the crowds down in Zermatt. Only reached by taking the gondola up (verify last ascent/descent or you can hike up/down) to 8,500' from Zermatt. We could see the Matterhorn from our bed! Would wake up early to catch the Alpenglow on the tips of the mountain, stunning! Double room with private bath is basic, but comfy and nicer than the pictures, balcony is shared with no seating, and gives you a front row seat to a glorious Matterhorn view (when it's not cloudy) when no one else is up on the mountain (the crowds are gone when the gondola stops running). Another important advantage is being the first on the trails to beat the crowds, as well as being able to acclimate a little to the high altitude before doing the challenging, but absolutely fantastic hike to the Hornli hut and back, as well as the Glacier Trail. Wait staff in restaurant were great, so friendly and hardworking, always cheerful even though they work a very long day keeping us fed and happy.

United KingdomIf you are looking to stay here, you need to factor in the cost of the cable car from Zermatt, which costs CHF 31 each way. This is an absolutely legitimate cost given that you're using the infrastructure. What irked us is that because we were staying overnight, we couldn't buy a return ticket (as this is apparently only valid for a day). The 4 bed room was fine space wise and the shared bathroom facilities weren't a problem. However, the bunk beds were not particularly comfortable and we didn't sleep well, although that might be partly attributable to the fact that it's at 2600m altitude.
There is no question: the unique selling point is this hotel's unbeatable location perched high on a mountain overlooking both Zermatt and - far more importantly - the Matterhorn. The view from the hotel and its terrace is utterly breathtaking, with a perfect, unimpeded view of this most iconic of Alpine peaks. Hotel Schwartzsee is situated 100m from the Schwartzsee cable car station, which is the only practical way of accessing the hotel. If you're a skier (not that we are), this means that you can be on the slopes long before the cable car starts bringing skiers up from Zermatt, and the slopes were still open when we visited the second week in April 2025. In summer, it would be an ideal base for hiking, although there was too much snow for this when we were there. Because of the hotel's remote location, accommodation is on a half board basis, with breakfast and a three course dinner included in the room rate. The food was hearty with a choice between a meat-based and a vegetarian option for main course. The first night the main course choice was between roast chicken and mashed potatoes or a tomato gnocchi, whilst the second evening, fondue (accompanied by bread, rosti and pickled gherkins and onions) was served for all. A Muslim family at the next table asked if their fondue could be made without using alcohol (given that fondue includes white wine) and the chef was happy to oblige. If you are the hungry type, the restaurant offers a more extensive lunch menu that caters for the skiers/day tourists. If you're trying to optimise your budget, the hotel offers some rooms with shared bathroom facilities - ours was a four bed room, with bunk beds and a sink in the room. An absolute highlight was seeing chamois grazing around the hotel. Wi-fi coverage was good enough to be able to conduct business meetings.

SwitzerlandHowever, there is room for improvement. The cleanliness could be better, and the bed linens should be of higher quality—without any holes. It would also be great if the management invested in some updates to the rooms. With these improvements, this place could be truly exceptional!
We had a great stay overall! The staff was wonderful, friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. The dinner was delicious. The location was simply amazing, with the Matterhorn practically within reach, offering breathtaking views.

SwitzerlandFood was good but could perhaps be improved--hard to deliver dinner for 30 people in short time frame. Breakfast was typical hearty Swiss Hotel fare--hot options would be nice but perhaps impractial.
Hotel Schwarzsee is special spot. They have improved their staffing now and it is far more friendly experience. Young dynamic crew that works hard to provide the best service. Front desk person is very nice and charming--important as it sets the tone for the stay. They are much more oriented towards understanding what hospitality and customer service means. It is a constant struggle and not easy as some guests may be difficult and they are now winning. Overall a pinnacle experience, pun intended and I will definitely be back.

South KoreaI had to be stuck on the mountain for the whole night after I got off the cable car around 4 pm and got down after 8 am next morning. I missed the Glacier Express train. This hotel needs to put more information about transportation situation.
Staff are friendly, especially Mr. Miguel helped me feel at home with a smile and kind service to a solo traveler like myself. Thank you, Migue! Dinner and breakfast were delicious! Unexpectedly, i had great awesome experiences at night with gazing stars and dawn with rising golden sunlight from those mountain tops around.

For us this was a perfect hotel that exceeded our expectations on our skiing holiday. We really loved our stay here. We lived in the quadruple room for 8 days during the Christmas period. We had amazing weather the whole time and lots of snow. The view is amazing both down on Zermatt but also Matterhorn of course. The breakfast was basic but good. The 3 course dinner was great and always varied. Our kids loved it and I already miss being there.

RussiaIn the dormitory room (a bed in the room with 6 beds) was no option to boil the water (may be it was possible at the reception). The wardrobe was big, but once there were all six persons in the room, there was not enough space to put all skiing clothes, thus some clothes were put on the windowsill. It would have been better to have more electric sockets in the room - sometimes it was not enough for all people.
The hotel located in the middle of the slope and can only be accessed by the lift (Furi-Schwarzsee) during the winter time. It is an optimal place, if you come for skiing: you can ski, till the lift Furi-Schwarzsee is opened. If you go from Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, plan to end up directly at the hotel (you still need to take the lift Furgg-Schwarzsee to go up from Furgg). The hotel provides a dinner which is served in a nice wooden lobby with a top view on Zermatt village. You can not go down to the village after the lifts are closed, but you can walk around Schwarzsee and enjoy the mountain views in a calm enviroment. In the morning you can witness the sunrise with a view on Matterhorn and then enjoy being the first on the freshly prepared slopes. The staff is friendly, rooms are clean, breakfast/dinner are good.
