Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe room was pretty minimal anc characterless. Not even a picture on the wall. Seemed a bit cell like.
One of the few reasonably priced places in central Basel… only 5 minutes walk from the central SBB station. Area is good and feels very safe, the room itself was basic with a wash basin but was clean and reasonably comfortable. Door access via code sent on day of arrival. Didn’t encounter any staff so can’t comment but the whole place seemed very decent and well run.

CanadaNothing to dislike! Just a headups to hikers, the kitchen opens at 7am so plan accordingly if you need to get food earlier.I didn't ask about other options so maybe there is something else!
It was very clean, welcoming and easy to get to. Basel is an expensive city, but the price was quite fair given this. They also had great resources for people visiting as solo travelers to the city. Also good wifi.

United KingdomGot a bit hot in room, there was a fan available though. I think hard to avoid as Basel was just very hot during my stay.
Really good value, got a single room for only slightly more than shared room. Great location right by train station. Perfect for me.

United KingdomStaff did not seem the friendliest or helpful when I checked in. I had to ask where the kitchen and bedroom was. Also did not seem the most friendly vibe in general, wasn't an issue for me but good for others to know. Not unfriendly either, but people stick to themselves. Lots of rooms, both hostel and private were there so it's less of a cosy friendly hostel vibe and more of a standard hostel, you are part of lots of randomers vibe. But overall still a great and comfortable stay and was the most affordable place I could find in Basel, so definitely recommend.
Great location near SBB, fair value, comfortable and clean hostel rooms.

Czech RepublicIt was pretty hot. The room I stayed is right next to a music school and kindergarten. In the evening there was a 3 hour music rehearsal and in the morning screaming children. But that's just colourful life you must be used to if you want to have a nice sleep in hostel. Also make sure to bring a USB A charger because by the bed there is no power socket only entry for USB A which I don't use anymore.
The staff is kind and helpful. The price is good for Schweiz standart. You get Basel card for free in addition to use for public transport and half price for kunstmuseum.

FranceIt was extremely noisy late at night and then early in the morning with people shouting on the staircase. I said it to the staff but I think they couldn’t do anything. Anyway for one night it’s ok
It’s just a short walk from the station. But I wouldn’t walk there by night alone. The lobby is very stylish. The room is small but nice. The staff is always in contact with you by Whatsup. You have a code for the door

United KingdomMaybe ac in rooms would be good but the price would go up. Breakfast was expensive but no more than Switzerland in general.
Great place to stay, had one bad experience with a member of staff otherwise everyone was amazing and friendly. Really social place to stay. The rooms were seriously warm, it was hard to sleep but it was 10 degrees C hotter than usual so not sure they can be blamed too much. Everything else was excellent and couldn’t recommend it more. Location is ideal, few minutes walk from train station, groceries and restaurants.

NetherlandsCapsule beds could have done with better ventilation as it did get quite hot during the night, but this was peak summer that I travelled.
Genuinely a great hostel so close to the train station down a quiet street, easy check in, fun pool and fusball tables, great outdoor area, comfortable rooms and super friendly staff. You also get your own towel and the showers come with body wash too.

United KingdomA shame that very early in the morning (5.30/6) a large group of new arrivals thought it was ok to run around the hostel making lots of noise. Not the hostel's fault but there should be a way of keeping people quiet at that time.
Really liked this place. Nice atmosphere, great location and i had lovely dorm mates. İ liked the layout of the dorm with space around the corner for lockers and sorting your bag out! Easy check.in and out.
