How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFelt very safe like home. Very friendly and courteous service. The room and bathroom were very clean. I would highly recommend this place, and if ever visit San Pedro, I will stay here again within a heartbeat. Finally, Andrea always helped us with a smile on her face no matter the time of the day.

Verified reviewAndrea was very kind and helped us a lot giving good advices and tips. The room was very nice and clean. The kitchen was a good addition and had good equipment. Everything was very nice.
It's 5-10 minutes to walk from the main street (Caracoles) which was not a problem for me. It's a good walk that helps sleep at night.

Verified reviewVery clean and tidy property and room. Host was extremely friendly and helpful. We came at a time when the weather wasn't great so many of the popular attractions were closed, and our host was able to provide advice for things we could do instead, one of which ended up being a trip highlight 'the Devil's Throat'. Also recommended a great French bakery where the croissants were incredible! Rooms are small but cosy and comfortable. There was a small kitchen to prepare a cup of tea in the morning and a fridge to store food. They also have the sweetest cat and little doggy to top off the stay!

Verified reviewReally nice room and bathroom. Everyone at the hotel (including Pepe the cat) was really friendly and helpful. Location is a little bit off the main street (5-10 minute walk) which meant it was nice and quiet at night.

Verified reviewOur stay at Hostel Anpaymi was fantastic, it was perfect for our trip. The hostel is clean, comfortable and quiet, and a short and easy walk to the centre of San Pedro. The owner is outstanding - she was welcoming and friendly, and could not do enough to help us. She clearly has an excellent knowledge of local tours and the area, and was full of helpful advice and local recommendations. She also offered a laundry service, which was a huge help! We would not hesitate to recommend this hostel to anyone, thank you!
Nothing, we had a wonderful stay

Verified reviewThe Hostal owner was so lovely, she reached out to find out my time of arrival and had the room ready. She learned about what I was up to and assisted me on tours. The room was lovely and best shower I’ve had in South America! The hostal felt really safe, cared for and thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Nothing, it’s a little walk from the town but honestly that means for a better nights sleep!

Verified reviewThe host was so lovely. She went out of her way to help us and give us tips on what to do. She also spoke perfect English which made it a lot easier for us. The room itself was really comfortable, and got cleaned daily. There was also a kitchen available for cooking, and a big fridge to store food. Location was great, maybe 10 minutes walk from the main street in a quieter part of town. San Pedro is very safe though so it was great even walking back at night. Very very happy with our stay.

Verified reviewThe owner was extremely nice and helpful and always cheerful and accommodating. The city center is a 7-10 min walk but there are convenient stores on the street and a Peruvian restaurant right around the block that served good food for the price in comparison to city center. There is a community kitchen where you can prepare your own food, tea or coffee. The wifi worked well as did the hot water. during the winter there is no central heat (normal throughout the town) so a space heater and blankets will be what keeps you warm.

Verified reviewThe room we stayed was quite clean and comfortable. The shower worked great and we didn't experience any lack of water or lack of hot water. The kitchen was well equipped for a simple meal, breakfast or a tea/coffee. The location is close to the terminal, which in my case was good since I came by bus. Andrea, the hostess is a really friendly and great person, her help was invaluable to my trip.
Being on a street that is somewhat important and that has additional traffic might bother little with the noise, but that was a no issue for me since there was no noise during night time and since the hostel is within walk-able distance to Caracoles it was a perfect spot for a traveler without a car.
