How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.

Verified reviewI was very excited for my trip to Rapa Nui, as it had always been a lifetime dream. My stay at Atavai Hotel made it even more special—it honestly felt like visiting friends from the very first minute until the last. I was warmly welcomed at the airport by Antoine and his family with a beautiful flower lei, and they kindly drove me to the hotel. Antoine took the time to explain what to do on Rapa Nui while I was sipping my fresh juice and then showed me to my room. The room was simple but very nice. It had everything I needed—Wi-Fi, a TV, a fridge, a kettle with tea and coffee. It was very clean and comfortable. Once you step outside, you’re surrounded by beautiful tropical plants and trees—it truly feels like a little piece of heaven. I only managed to have breakfast once during my stay because I had early tours most mornings, but that one breakfast was fantastic with a fresh omelette, fruit salad, and more. On my departure day, Antoine even suggested I spend my time exploring the town, and he personally brought my luggage to the airport before my flight. How nice is that! Small gestures like this really made me feel at home.
I wouldn’t call it a downside, but the hotel is about a 20-minute walk from the town center. During the day, it’s a pleasant walk, but on the way back at night it can feel a little tiring.

Verified reviewThe staff is really nice and welcoming, we had a great stay! They provide plenty of information about the island. The hotel is far enough from the ocean so you are safe in case of a tsunami alert, no evacuation needed! But still within walking distance from the ocean. We will stay there again when back in the island, thank you for everything.

Verified reviewThe staff were very welcoming and kind. You get a transfer from the airport and a full briefing on arrival. The hosts speak many languages and are very knowledgeable. The rooms are down little tree lined paths with beautiful flowers and the back is jungle plants.
Unfortunately the property is very out of the way. This means walking about 25 minutes to the town. If it is dark you will need a Headtorch. Beware of guard dogs on the route if you are not OK with animals. The rooms were clean in terms of linen etc, but the floors and tiles need a deep clean. Although boasting a kitchenette unfortunately had no utensils to use it. Clearly a cockroach problem but this was the same for the whole island

Verified reviewThe cleaner was friendly and helpful
The manager did not seem to want to bother. He picked us up from the airport and dropped us off at the end of our stay, didn't want to answer any questions we had and made us feel like we were a nuisance. The hotel restaurant and bar were closed the whole time we were there (8 days) and we were a good half hour walk from any restaurants or shops which wouldn't have been so bad but we had no map and the hotel didn't have any available, the taxi numbers we were given did not respond so we felt a bit like we were dropped in the middle of nowhere and abandoned. The roof in one of our rooms leaked. The showers in our rooms provided hot water intermittently and fell apart whenever we tried to use them. We didn't partake of the optional extra breakfast as we walked past the dining room on the first morning and saw the food all laid out on the table with no-one around and wondered how long it would sit there .. I'm a CPAP user and the power frequently went off during the night causing my sleep to be disrupted most nights. The WiFi access at the hotel blinked on and off the whole time I was trying to use it, quickly gave up on it altogether.

About electricity, because a very bad weather, the electricity company worked a lot to repair cables on differents places of the village, not only at Atavai Hotel, it was everywhere. But they did it very quick. We always give a lot of information about everything, but sometimes people like you don’t want to listen to us and always complain.
